Talking about chess clubs. I was actually a member of a chess club for maybe a month when I was 12 years old or something like that. I do believe I have a whole binder full of chess moves lying around the house somewhere.

I have a friend how was ranked amoung the like top 5 junior chess players in the area a few years back (we a bit to old for that age group now). Well one day a bunch of us are hanging out and he gets really pissed off at this other guy so he takes a swing at him. Before he does this however he takes off his glasses for some reason and holds them in his left hand well guess what he's left handed and thats the fist he used to swing. Yes them glasses are now toast.

Moral of the story just because you are good at chess doesn't mean you are not a moron.

    Agree with Mord here.

Too many times in stories I've seen them portray Ron like this... I personally can't stand the character... I see Ron as something there just to betray Harry later on, and to be the yin to Draco's yang.

Now I personally am a Major Chess player but I am no great World War Material war Strategist.

One of the things in chess is there are counter-moves for everything and some moves are predicatable same in war but not to the velocity ofof chess because there are only so many pieces in the game and as people have said there are actually lifes allies and reinforcements to take account of. Basically Chess is good training for strategy and a war model but IT DOES NOT make you master war strategist

Risk could also be used as a War Model., It unlike chess is very chancey like I doubt in really war an army of 2000 can majorly desicmate a force of say 5000 its possible but not very likely only its like 2000 elite forces or theyw have major anger on there side. Risk also gives you geography and the numbers strategy but it too doesn't make you a Master Strategist because you can afford to lose plastic pieces to a roll of the dice gamble but not real lifes unless your insane, a-moral or just cold earted

Ron may be a good chess player, but he is no Strategist.

Exactly you plan maybe a few moves ahead of time in chess, and you have a pretty good idea what's going to happen since certain things can only move certain ways.

On the other hand, war for example... you could count on nothing. That one guy you didn't take out at first b/c you didn't want to sacrifice one of your own pawns, might be rocking a backback nuke and blow you all to hell and back =)

Oh and god bless the game of Risk. I've spent many a night drunk out of my mind playing Risk with 3 other equally drunk ppl. Damned game takes forever when you're too bombed to read the dice correctly

    ROFL!

Drunk Risk takes awhile. We'd play with anything goes rules, so there'd be alliances. You'd catch two of the guys teaming up, then for no reason one of them would just wipe out the others unprotected areas...

You'd never think Risk could lead to a fist fight could ya?

I once made the mistake of playing Monopoly with a friend of my then girlfriend.

She was a finance major, this chick was giving other players loans and charging them interest. She managed to get a nice chunk of properties, and just pure gouged everyone.

On the plus side.. she was hawt in an insane way. Also, I learned never to play a game based on finances, with someone who wants to be an accountant!

My problem with Monopoly is my brother. It's really cruel. As long as a game has something to do with Money you can bet that he will win. Monopoy for sure.

When we were kids, we made our own rules for the game.

We did that... few years back vefore we lost our monopoly game we had bough 3 different games, took the money and houses, and tossed the extra into a big box.. and with hotels on every property, games go ON and ON and ON!
