My favorite part of the article is where it says that the lawyers representing Rowling and Warner Brothers feel they've been treated badly by this small book company. They can't use the leverage on the big book distributers for future HP books.

Sucks when you don't have that big stick you're used to carrying around.

I'm guessing they're the same folks who showed up with Deputies and court orders when books 5 and 6 got sold early.

    Boo fricken who!

Like the link posted by BP shows, lots of books already exist and it shows that she's be lax in protecting her trademark. Now that she doesn't need the free publicity anymore, she's trying to put her foot down. I'm no lawyer and I don't play one on TV, but the little book company has a leg to stand on and I think that's why JKR's lawyers are trying to play the victim here. What it could end up with is an ugly little David vs. Goliath scenario.

I doubt she would move against HP fanfiction itself until she's sold a good number of copies of her encyclopaedia (which I think won't be published before movie 7 comes out).

Otherwise it might seriously affect sales, because while HP fans would like to know more about the magical world, more than a few might find it quite pointless to actually go and buy the book when they can't do anything with what they'd read and learned about. It would be like, "So yeah, now JKR tells me Ginny is actually a cheating ho and Harry's degenerated into a potsmoking bum with a beergut, but so what? I can't use this information or write shit about it because she's disallowed HP fanfics."

After the encyclopaedia is long published though, the ball is in anyone's court on what would be her stance on fanfiction. But seeing as how she's quickly turned against the Lexicon, which she once praised and supported, I would not be surprised that once she's sold what she wants sold, and earned all that she can, she would feel that fanfiction would serve her no use anymore and move against it. I guess her true colors are just starting to show. Wonder what all of her asslickers would say if she destroys the fandom by disallowing fanfiction?

It goes without saying that I truly hope the company getting sued will emerge victorious if this does go to court. And the bitch ain't getting a single cent off me anymore.

Sounds like there's more to it. Lots of they said - they said type crap.

It looks like a countersuit has been filed based on the usage of Lexicon materials without "fair compensation" on the Warner Brothers DVD's.

I wonder if RDR will try to issue an injunction against the release of the OOTP DVD, which will likely cost Warner Brothers in Holiday Xmas sales?

Sounds pretty messy now and likely to get uglier.

Still don't understand. MuggleNet is releasing an encyclopedia the same day. This reeks of flexing the penis muscle.

I agree. I think there's a hell of alot going on behind the scenes and I think the key is the request for compensation for including the Lexicon materials on the OOTP DVD.

I'm guessing if WB had an airtight case this would have already been crushed at this point.

    Seems fishy.

You mean to say Mugglenet is also releasing a similar encyclopaedia and JKR is doing nothing about it? Talk about double standards. So the authors the MN's encyclopaedia are not publishing it for their "own gain"?

I highly doubt any suit filed against RDR will stand if this is true.

    Ooo, a shiny, new interview.

Good going there, Rowling. Just keep alienating more of your male fan base. She should have made Harry a girl and been done with it.

I swear, the whole interview could be summarized in these two lines:

Interviewer: So, Jo why/how/when did X Character do that? What is the deeper meaning?
    JKR: GIRL POWER! RON POWER!

Most of theses interviews that she does ask the most stupid questions...Questions that have answers that anybody with half a brain could of worked out. I honestly cant see why she makes out Ron to be this great person when he quite clearly is absolute twat, everything she says about how Ron is the 'glue that holds the trio together' can be easily counter by just saying it was Ron who abandoned Harry and Hermione when he knew the mission they where on was vital to getting rid of Voldemort. Sometimes i really wonder if Rowling is even reading the same book as me.

I don't know what was more aggravating. The multiple spelling mistakes or the actual interview.

On a side note how can you not know what your original hair color was????

Correct Answer: Ginny Weasley. She is in fact an exact clone of what I wish I was (which is kind of sad, as it means I want to be a penniless syphilic whore) and I should be killed for such a blatant Mary-Sue self insert. In fact, I'll go do it right now, before I'm tempted to write a sequal, prequel, additional side story, or tale from another side... Like Ginny's! I could write Ginny's story... Hmmm...

It was pretty obvious that Harry was Jesus, but the fact that she's outright said it devalues the whole thing in my opinion.

If Harry was Jesus, does that make Ginny Marie Magdalene?

    *shudders at the thought...

Impossible! The real Mary Magdalene, in fact, wasn't a whore.

Yes, JKR has gone around the twist.

In other news: Like Archie at the Quidditch World Cup, JKR's husband enjoys a healthy breeze 'round his privates.
