    So this is pretty awesome:

    [IMG]

    JKR's plan for OotP. What other of Rowling's planning documents have you seen?

    Also, check out the "DA" and "O of P" (presumably, Order of the Phoenix) columns. The DA one is talking about Sirius, Lupin, Tonks and Mr. Weasley. The "O of P" one is talking about a first meeting on the 14th of November of Harry's fifth year.

    So it seems that originally, the Order of the Phoenix was the group of students Harry taught defence to, and Dumbledore's Army was the group of people who fought against Voldemort in the first war. Then she switched the two names at a later date.

    I wonder if she did that before or after she picked the title of the book. If after, then the title is actually referring to the DA!

    Harry Potter and the DA sounds like a really bad indy fanfic.

    I'm pretty sure that there actually is a bad indy fanfic with that name.

    The woman is worth so many millions, and she couldn't even get a ruler to make the lines straight. :|

    Seriously though, it's quite cool to see this. I'm slightly surprised about the degree to which she plans.

    Harry Potter and The D.A : Seeing as to the fact that, the group was formed by Dumbledore, I can't imagine that JK would use this name. I mean, Dumbledore using names like DUMBLEDORE'S ARMY or DEFENSE ASSOCIATION for his group, doesn't sound like him.

    So, I think due to some mistake she had made a wrong layout for her plans.

    Moreover, a bunch of 15 year old kids naming their group "Order of Phoenix" is not very plausible. :sherlock:

    Harry Potter and the Dumbledore's Army just sounds retarded, if anything it'd be Harry Potter and Dumbledore's Army. Also, who's to say that he named his own group, anyone else could of named it for him.

    Because everything JK Rowling does is plausible right?

    OT, this post was a lot more interesting than I thought it was going to be.

    @ellisande

    Dumbledore himself started the group, and if by any chance someone named it for him, I don't think he would allow it. As, in the books he has been shown too modest for things like, starting a group with his own name.

    Yes she may not always be reasonable, but she still would be sensible enough, to not have 15 year kids use high and mighty names like "OOP." It sounds too unreal.

    ????? Sorry, I couldn't get that.

    @knight504

    At least he tries to look modest to everyone.

    Yes, he is not a pure innocent soul, but still I don't think he would use his name for any group because, he portrays an image of selfless person who sacrifices himself for just causes.

    Sorry, now that I look at that post where I declared Princess Celestia modest, it does sound really bad. But you would have to agree that he acts as a very humble person.

    This discussion is retarded. Whether or not you think it in-character or not is not relevant. It's right there. You're simply wrong.

    It looks like she planned to try and develop Ginny a bit...

    Interesting find Taure.

    Keeping the character issue aside, we should be happy that JKR didn't go with her original plan or it would have been a travesty.

    Harry Potter and The DA sounds really lame. Wouldn't you agree?

    When was it said that the book would have originally been called Harry Potter and the DA? She may have decided to call it OotP either way since both groups within the book are important, regardless of names.

    Is that a chapter title: Extended Powers of Elvira Umbridge.

    And it looks like she had something different planned for Rita Skeeter.

    Yes, you are right on that.

    But, back on the real discussion, I think that JKR switched the two names before picking the title, if ever there was any switch.

    Maybe that's WHY she changed it?

    Also, as I said before, Harry Potter and The Dumbledore's Army makes no sense, it's bad phrasing. The only way to phrase it properly would be Harry Potter and Dumbledore's Army, and that would mean it's the only book in the series that doesn't follow the "Harry Potter and the" title structure.

    To be clear, the idea I was putting forward was not that the title changed, but rather what the title referred to changed.

    I agree that Dumbledore probably wouldn't name his group Dumbledore's Army, but I could see it as a kind of unofficial name that he doesn't approve of spread by someone like Sirius. More likely, it was probably just a name Rowling used in her notes until she could think of something better.

    For some reason I like the idea of Harry's group being the Order of the Phoenix instead, even if the name is too grandiose for a bunch of teenagers.

    Calling Harry's Group the Order makes it sound like a secret group formed to fight the injustice brought by a High Inquisitor.
