Awesome show, funny, hot as shit womenz.

"Don't punk the crackberry yo, she'll light that ass up!" had me rolling. Main actor is pretty good, and Divia is amazingly hot.

This. That kid was hilarious - I hope he comes back (eventually, he will I'm sure).

It's going in a good direction. USA seems to be doing well show-wise for the last few years, so I've got hope.

I just got into this, but for an enitirely different reason. the guy who plays Hanks brother used to be a star on a show I loved as a kid and so I decided to check it out when I saw him in a preview. My opinion so far is pretty much exactly what Middy said.

Is this the one where the dude plays Doctor to the rich in the hamptons?

If it is, IIRC I facepalmed so hard at the first episode with the chick talking about wanting to open up a free clinic in the hamptons or something of that nature.

I thought it was really retarded, and like most shows by USA, they overplayed it long before it was even on air. I think the only reason I had any interest in it is because the one guy is the pot smoker from Road Trip. The rest of it sorta reminds me of Burn Notice crossed with Nip/Tuck crossed with that guy who breaks the jar in his anal cavity. Just not as serious, and more of a comedic flair, because we all know that people in the Hamptons /need/ free clinics.

This show is like Psych v. The Mentalist.

The Mentalist trys half as hard as Psych does, and it still comes off as being more witty, even when its really not supposed to be, or if it is, its done in such a manner that it actually fits the show, and isn't filmed in some Scooby-doo style, Monster of the Week type deal.

    Minuses: Yet another doctor show.

I'll keep an eye on it.

    I want to like this.

But the plots don't even make any sense.

The show is entertaining but it's all ready starting to get old. Alright we get it he got fucked over for doing the right thing. Every episode is the same thing. Rich person needs some crazy medical procedure, poor person needs but can't afford something. In comes the concierge doctor, helps the rich guy with some crazy observation, and helps the poor guy by providing service free of charge.

Shows like this never get far, because after 4 episodes it gets too repetitive.

I'm worried this'll happen too - and USA does have a tendency to overplay, even when the premise of the show is great.

Eh, I still hope for the best. Maybe they'll open up his benefactor's backstory a little more before we all get bored. *crosses fingers*

Could kinda say the same with House though I will admit House has a much different formula.

Patient with mysterious symptoms. Team and House come up with some treatment. Treatment fails, more symptoms. New treatment, treatment works but barely. House comes up with some random disease. Team treats for that and patient is cured.

What keeps House "fresh" so to speak is that people really dont watch for the medical stuff its more about House and how he 'hate' everyone and basically the relationship. Royal Pains... I havent seen that yet.

I'd still keep an eye on it.

I also hate House for that reason, but House has characters that drive the show. Each character tends to have their own subplots going on, and most people watch the show for those. Royal Pains has yet to have any.

The father/son-buddy relation developing between Hank and Tucker? Divya dealing with following her dream despite her parents' wishes? Hank/Jill, Evan/Divya? Boris' secretive lifestyle? Hank's ex-fiancee (you just know she's gonna make a re-appearance), plus the Nightingale Syndrome chick? Evan staking out a name for himself amongst the Hamptons elite?

I think there's plenty of subplot to go around ;)

    Was going to say this

And this. Plenty of stuff they can do. Every episodic show gets bogged down in same ole, same ole, it comes down to the characters to make/keep it interesting.

Hank/Tucker interactions along with the girlfriend are awesome. "I hate flying" BLAM wrecks multi thousand dollar plane.

Pretty good episode tonight, definitely better than the previews let on:

    - We learn about Jill's ex; I'm banking on him making an appearance.
    - Divya is engaged in an arranged marriage (lol Sree), and predictably doesn't wanna go through with it. The wedding planner had caught the same bug that Ms. Newberg's housekeeper had, and Divya had to treat her - party planner will be the link for Divya's parents to find out about her (formerly secret) physician's assistant gig.
    - Tucker's gonna get laid.
    - Newberg gave Hank a fuckin' Tesla Roadster (Google it) as a thank-you for saving her dog. Fastest production electric vehicle in the country, sub 4-second 0-60 time. Hank gives it to his brother.
I think this show has some staying power. The plots are unraveling nicely; Boris is finally a patient in the next episode - I'm guessing it's for
    a shark bite

I've watched the one minute preview file from the torrent of the pilot episode - does look kinda stupid as a show - at least stupid characters.

But I'll still check the pilot - I may be wrong.

I like this show quite a bit. In general cable shows have just become so much better than network shows. Network shows live and die by weekly ratings getting written off if their premiere doesn't win its time slot. Cable shows are practically guaranteed to play out at least the season, so the writers and producers aren't trying to force as much action, excitement, and cliched hooks at you in every first episode or two.

USA in particular has the best character-driven shows around. I like Hank. He's every bit as smarmy as Cliff Calley but he's still a nice guy to root for. Divya's pretty awesome, Evan gets on my nerves but I think he's supposed to. Kinda ambivalent towards Jill. I mean she's hot but not that interesting.

I'll keep watching this one but I don't see it lasting more than a couple seasons if that.

Although I was pleasantly surprised to see a new USA showing is coming in a few months. Bryce Larkin as the Frank Abagnale character (from Catch Me If You Can). And who knew Tiffani Amber Thiessen would ever get another acting job? Link to new show promo, White Collar.

    New episode tonight:

Jill's ex us back (called it) - and they're still married (didn't call that). I expect some lurve triangle angst to ensue, or quadruple if Hank's ex-fiancée shows up. Divya's a fucking coward, but at least her parents know what she does now. Although to not know that your daughter isn't at Wharton School of Business, yet micro-managing the rest of her life (including whom she marries), is quite the mindfuck. Finally, Hank has serious daddy issues; I expect Lawson, Sr., to make an appearance sooner or later.
Next episode brings back Tucker, with his dad as the patient.

Evan's the comic relief here but they're just not making him funny enough. Acting's not great but I think it's more the writers. And the constant tension between patients/guardians not wanting to take the doctor's advice is getting repetitive.

Somehow, I think Divya is getting hotter. Maybe it was the riding outfit and whip.

A little annoying to go from an episode with Tucker to no sign of Tucker (how'd the salami hiding go?). An episode with Boris, to no sign of Boris (isn't he secretly dying of something Hank missed?). And yet we always get updates of no movement and awkwardness in the Jank (as Evan called 'Jill and Hank').

Still enjoying and looking forward to more though.

    Quality season finale:

    - Jank is as confusing as ever. Both of them have bad timing, and Charlie's cockblocking combined with Hank's budding interest in Zoe (formerly crazed patient) will go far to keep them apart. Although Jill kicking out Charlie doesn't mean he's out of the picture quite yet.

    - Evan's a fucking idiot. Why would you invest with your greedy father (I called him making an appearance, BTW) when you have access to a multi-millionaire bank owner? Hank's confrontation with his father should be epic.

    - Boris' genetic disease and family history makes me wonder why he doesn't have a kid...unless he plans to (a) introduce his family in the next season, (b) have Hank cure him, or (c) pass it all onto Hank if he dies? He hinted as much in the second to last episode.

    - Divya's a coward for getting married. I hope it was just a plot extender, and not an "out" from the show.
