Well what with the outbreaks of bad posting and after seeing some things in the DLP improvement thread (which this thread is sort of in response to) I was going back through the rules when I noticed some mistakes in the spelling, etc.

Which got me thinking, and also made me go back and fix what I saw.

I also believe that if the registration process had a timer built in on the rules page that many of the unwanted users would give up and go elsewhere (It's been a while since I did site design and never on a vb-esque forum) but I believe it's possible to create one.

I also wish the spoiler thing worked like other forums and actually hid the text within revealing it only when a button was pressed so as to keep the

Edited rules are directly below and my further comments are below that. links from showing.

I also believe many have forgotten or never read the rules. Some of my favourite breaches are...

Why does the monthly check of the links, etc not seem to apply to the Almost Recommendable list? I've also noticed that there are fics in the Almost Recommendable list that are in the library; is there no way to cross reference the two?

I finish this post with a question.
Anyone ever wonder how people come to DLP without seeing what kind of a cold unforgiving place it is? I mean there are big warning signs... everywhere after all; from the posts themselves to the rules and the automatic pm sent out to new members.

Also some clarification on the rules

A limit of two images, 120px height, 500px width total is allowed. Anyone breaking this rule will have their signature removed. IRC regulars have a small exception in that they are able to add a small banner with their assigned IRC nickname to their signature. No other exceptions will be made at this time.

Is it the two images combined can be no more than 500px wide and 120px high or can you have an image that's say 1000px wide and 120px high?
    Just curious.

Do you have any idea how many posts DLP gets a month? Originally that would have been possible, but right now? Yeah, no.

But you've made a valid point, we should update the rules.

Why, in the name of his great noodliness, did you put the bulk of your post in spoiler tags? I'm on an ipad, so I can't read the damned thing. You say yourself that you don't like the way DLP does spoiler tags, so WHY do you use them in your post? Especially when a quote tag will do a more than sufficient job...

    Errgh.

What use would a mandatory time period at the rules page be? It wouldn't serve any purpose. People will see that they can't move from that page and will go do other things until the time period is over. It certainly wouldn't result in people reading the rules any more thoroughly than they did before.

Hmm.. just an idea I just no most people wouldn't like the idea of having to wait for something and unless they were truly interested in the site would be more likely to not bother with it. Yeah they could just do something else in the meantime I suppose but I was really just bouncing an idea around.

All I was saying that the timer might impose some more importance on it than normal. From what I've seen most people just click the accept button on TOS and EULA agreements without reading them.

Maybe a reminder of the rules added to the automatic message you receive after joining?

Either way I was just putting some suggestions out there, mostly that the rules were a bit outdated or unclear. I was also pointing out some of the things I've noticed mainly in the fanfic discussion area of the forum regarding the rules (as I understand them) but I won't explain that if its not obvious after reading the sections I highlighted in the first post especially if you look at some of the threads highlighted in the DLP improvement threads in said areas.
