What's a death in a fanfic that hits you in the feels.

    I'll start -

Can't remember the name of the fanfic for the life of me, (The King's Something) but I'm pretty sure it was by Dwitty.

Harry and Ron are cleaning in Grimmauld Place when Ron is attacked by a Lethifold disguised as a tophat. Harry desperately tries everything to save him until Lupin and Moody arrive, but it's too late and Ron dies. A little later Harry finds out one of the spells he's already mastered, the Patronus Charm, would have been more than enough.

Too numb with grief to think, he goes out to stare at the stars.

It was right at the start of the fic, but the cruel irony in Harry trying everything but the one charm he's amazing at, and the terrible realization that he really could have saved Ron gutted me.

He loses one of the people he loves the most, and it's a deeper sorrow of knowing forever that he easily could have stopped it.

It's on par with Harry in canon finding the two-way mirror Sirius had given him, and living with the knowledge that he really could have gotten in touch with Sirius if he'd just remembered to look in his trunk.

    What's yours?

Massive spoiler but inevitable in a thread like this.

Rise of the Wizards, Harry killing Dumbledore in the mistaken belief that Dumbledore was acting against him.

Dahlia in The Phoenix and the Serpent.

One of the best redemption arcs I've ever read, and a very fitting yet tragic death.

I suppose these will all be spoilers, but in Birds & Monsters, Harry and Daphne find Sirius Black per usual in canon but before Sirius can explain things Harry & Daphne instead just immediately go on the attack at the supposedly dangerous & ruthless 'right hand man of Voldemort', resulting in Sirius' death. It's much later that Harry finds out the truth & he's devastated that he murdered his innocent godfather.

Ginny's death in Forging the Sword. It's right at the start, but damn it hits hard that Harry has to make that choice.

A similarly tragic thing happens in Hunting the Grim.
