I think that happens in a Harry and Fleur story where Fleur comes to Hogwarts for her 7th year: OotP. I don't remember the name but Imma go look - it's called "The Scorpion's Sting".

They all looked at the glass case with bated breath.

Thusnelda (formerly known as Dolores Umbridge) let out a hoarse croak, but otherwise did not show any signs of un-toadlike behaviour.

"Are – are you sure we've got the right one, Minerva?"

"How many toads do you think there are in Gryffindor Tower, Albus?" McGonagall bristled.

"It is her all right," Woods stated. "No doubt about it – just look at that mark on the head…"

    "But then – why doesn't she…?"

"Change back as she ought to? I have no idea. The spell have worn off, I am perfectly sure about that. So…"

"Let's see…" Woods said slowly, reaching into the tank, lifting the toad out on he palm of her hand and putting it on Dumbledore's desk. Then she performed a few wand movements and muttered a spell.

The toad began to change slowly, and within a minute or so, Dolores Umbridge was perched on the desk, blinking in the candlelight.

"Good evening, Dolores," Dumbledore said, beaming at her. "I owe you an apology, I believe, as well as an explanation…"

Umbridge gulped in a very toadlike fashion.

"Erm – ah…" even her voice sounded like a croak.

"So it was you that was behind everything," she began after a time. "I was wondering… It's been quite some time, hasn't it? Toads have not got much sense of time, you know…How long? Wait, don't tell me, I don't want to know. It doesn't matter, does it? An explanation? Yes, I think I might like to hear that, though…"

"Well," Dumbledore began, and he certainly sounded somewhat embarrassed. He had expected screaming and cursing, a fit of fury, and he was rather put out by her calm tone and relaxed behaviour. "Well, you will remember how you kept interfering and getting on everybody's nerves…"

"Yes, I did that, didn't I? I must have made quite a nuisance of myself…"
McGonagall and Woods gaped at her. Dumbledore also cleared his throat before he continued.

"And of course we could not risk you finding out what you had really come for – Professor Woods' identity. So we had to do something about it, and I thought I had found a rather elegant solution… But it was actually a complete coincidence that you ended up where you did…"

    He indicated the glass tank.

"That's where the apology comes in, I believe," he finished.

"Apology accepted," Umbridge answered after a pause. There was a big smile on her face, a smile that none of the others had ever seen her smile; it was open and genuine, nothing like those forced grimaces that everybody remembered.

"Though there is no need for an apology, Albus," she continued. "Actually, I have to thank you for what you have done…"

    "Thank me?"

"Yes, I mean it. Thanks to your scheming, I have a family now. You see, I had never felt accepted or welcome or – loved by anybody before. My own fault to some extent, I'm sure, and I'm not asking for any pity, but I had always been lonely and learned to put on some kind of armour… Well, all that has changed now, and if you want to do make it up to me for what you have done – just let me return…"

The three teachers stared at her.

"But – toads…" McGonagall said at last, "They – they are not exactly the brightest or most interesting creatures, are they… No offence," she ended rather lamely.

"You'd be surprised," Umbridge said with a laugh. "It's about magical toads, don't you forget that. You should now, shouldn't you? Cats are not so very difficult from toads after all, even if we may not look so cute and fluffy. Trevor is the most agreeable company one could wish for, and I adore the kids. Don't look so flabbergasted, it takes a toad to understand the way of toads…"

"I expect that's true," said Dumbledore weakly.

Harry Potter and the Half-blood auror was written in 2012. Check it out. It certainly deserves a spot in the library.

No, not really. Personally, I don't like it when average quality fics make it into the library, just because there's been a dearth of readable material in the past few months.

And I do find it funny that you mention that story, since I did reply in that thread.

I didn't check that thread after I made my post. Going now.

EDIT: The author definitely improved. Go check it out. It's a good read.

Jbern also said that the idea seemed very cliched to him and was putting it on hold for the foreseeable future. I liked the start well enough and was looking forward to read the Dark Arts Defense League.

Anyone out there ever come across a good hunter x hunter fic? I honestly think that the hunter x hunter world is rich and diverse enough to offer authors really good content to work with unfortunately all I've been able to get are yaoi fics about Kurapika and Chrollo.

Really interested in this so help is appreciated.

I'm also a Hunter X Hunter fan, though mostly of the first few arcs. After the four of them split up and went their separate ways I found it hard to keep my interest at the same level.

The early interactions between those four were fantastic though, and imo not the same thing as Naruto. Sure they were partially a team, but by choice. They didn't have all the petty little rivalries or drama amongst each other that Naruto has. I liked that.

Later on I felt it got a bit boring but I hold out hope that they'll team back up again sometime. Let me know if you find any good fic with all of them Quick Ben, I'd be curious.

Are you talking about after Yorkshin arc when they get to Greed island? If so you're really missing out I was also bummed out at first since the other to weren't but the whole arc is so incredibly written and plotted and made that it was worth it. Look for its OVA its only 12 episodes then I highly recommend you read the Chimera ant arc in the manga despite some of the shoddy art.

The arc I liked the most was the Hunter Exam arc. Greed Island didn't have them all together, mostly just Gon and Killua, but it was a fun arc. The Tower was fun too. Just not as good as the first one with all four characters chillin' together. And I've followed the manga (when it's being produced) -- the Chimeara ant arc was not a favorite, honestly.

The Chimeara Ant arc I didn't think was as good as the Hunter Exam, Tower of Heaven/Whatever, or Greed Island arcs. I just couldn't get into it. The King or whatever was OP, Kurapika and Leorio weren't in it at all, there were too many frames dedicated to the Ants/Chimearas instead of interesting characters, and it just wasn't very... fun. I guess? It's been a while since I read it.

Very true it was actually pretty depressing(especially with how far Gon snapped and what he gave up for vengeance) but I personally liked it because it subverted a lot of tropes that I have seen around. You should try out the election arc Leorio comes back and has some surprising developments, you get to see more of Gin(that is if you care about him anyway) and you'll get to see Pariston an excellent character. Also if the Killua's family interests you there is more of them.

Yeah I'm up to date on HxH -- moreso than any other manga, actually.

A story where Sirius turned out to be the traitor and where, I think, Remus had a hand in raising Harry. It was a series of books, with Sirius' betrayal being revealed in the third and he died in the fifth, IIRC.
