I remember this story where I think Harry somehow learns he's a wizard before going to Hogwarts and he like buys a wand in an antique store or something and the shop-keeper may or may not have been magical and know who he was. That's all I really remember but that beginning stuck with me for a while and now I wanna go back and read it.

 

You are not required to read it, you know that right ? I remembered a few cliches from when I read it about some four years ago but I can't be expected to list everything bad with it.

 

I certainly realize that I'm not required to read it, but I took a shot at it anyway because stories that DLP members think have aged well are usually better than 99% of the shit that's out there.

I think I was just surprised by the massive number of cliches that turned up right at the beginning.

 

That makes sense. I haven't read it fully myself since the last time, but I took a brief look at the latter chapters and they seemed fairly well written. It's perfectly understandable if you can't pull past the numerous cliches, I doubt I will as well. If I do read it, it will be as a guilty pleasure, for old memories sake.

 

Ugh, it's really hard on the clichés and poorly written. I knew it'd be mediocre after all this time, but damn that was painful to read.

 

I'm in the mood for some tragedies. So does anyone have fics where Harry fails and Voldemort wins?
Fics where Harry joins the Dark Lord are not out of the question either.

 

Building on Xandrel's request; does anyone know of any fics where Harry does defeat Voldemort, but realizes at the end that he's become just as bad as him? Where he, Ron, Hermione, and any others become as cold as the Death Eaters?

(I remember one A/U where Harry reappears mid-DH, picks up the rest of the 'Ministry Six', and they all turn into cold, ruthless bastards. Fred and George tried to help them, but quickly realize how fucked up they all were; Ginny was a sociopath, Luna pregnant and half-brainwashed by the Death Eaters, Ron liked to assassinate things with poisonous tattoos and toxins, and Hermione...well, I can't remember about her).

 

That's Sanitarium (Sanitorium?), iirc.

 

I believe the story you're referring to was called Sanitarium, by Greensl33ves. Hermione's tragedy was that Theo Nott blackmailed her into extracting most of her memories into a Pensieve, which he then absorbed to boost his own brain. This left Hermione a scattershot ditz who took drugs to handle the loss of identity.

The story was an uber-trainwreck that haunts me still- the writer's ability to generate angst was on a whole different level. Greensl33ves has since taken down her stories in order to move on as a writer.

 

Yeah, I wondered why I couldn't find it. Some of her other stories were marginally better, though.

 

I've read this story before, or at least tried to. I think it's one of the plethora of terribly HP/DG stories, or it may have been in the almost recced thread. The name is on the back of my mind, but it was too long ago.

 

I'm like starting to remember what I think are more and more pieces to this story. Doesn't he get sorted into Slytherin and like just gives Daphne his invisibility cloak or something like that?

 

I'm looking for some Harry-centric time travel fics, I've got a bit of spare time on my hands and reading seems like a good idea. I'd prefer him traveling to the Marauder Era, but even just going back a few years is fine. Thanks in advance.

 

One of my favorite time-travel stories. Pretty lulzy at times how Harry is trying so hard not to change something and mess up his future only to wind up setting the events that would make him what he is in motion. Really well done and I'd read it if you haven't already.

Yeah. Honestly, that's like my favorite part of the story. That and like the woman that would become Pansy's mom (I think it's Pansy's mom) trying to seduce Harry.

Does anyone know of any good Harry/Katie fics? I just finished reading kmfrank's Unlocked Knowledge and Harry Potter and the Muggleborn Chaser and was wondering if there were any other decent stories featuring this pairing.
