Do you want smut or an actual story?

 

Both, as "some is better than none", but preferably (always) the latter.

 

I started reading https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10015981/1/West-of-Here a couple weeks since it's listed as Harry/Katie. It started off amusingly enough, but something about it just started to drag on when you realize it's meant to be a serious fic. I made it through the first 3 chapters and then got bored of it, but if you are desperate enough, I suppose it works.

 

Tried it; couldn't slog through it.

 

Anyone know any fics with "training montages/sequences?".
I'm currently writing my first "proper" multi-chapter fanfic, and I want there to be a good training sequence in it.
I don't actually care what the fics like, I just need some grounding on how to do these scenes.

 

The way I do it is to first do a "show" scene, establishing the routine, then a "tell" narrative, giving an overarching view of what's happening, and then pepper the "tell" narrative with very short "show" snaphots, dipping into various key moments.

The first scene of chapter 10 of Alexandra Potter is essentially a training montage.

Another part of my writing which features a montage, but not a training montage, is the start of chapter 3 of The One He Feared. This is a more sophisticated form of the montage than the above AP scene.

 

just find any fic written between 2005 and 2007, nearly all of them have training montages.

 

I'm looking for a fic that I remember was hosted on Fanfic Authors. It was an indy!Harry. Unfortunately, I don't remember many specific details, apart from the fact that Harry had a badass mentor (I think it might have been fem!Blaise's grandpa) and ended up going to a vault under Vatican to retrieve one of the horcruxes (he meets a basilisk there). There was also a battle Harry vs. Death Eaters in some abandoned house for another horcrux (Malfoy was present). I think the fic wasn't finished.

Why the interest in unfinished/abandoned stories though?

 

Echoes of Power, Part I: Anger is very good, if you can stand cliches (though, given that it was written primarily in 2006, it probably played a large role in starting the aforementioned cliches, rather than reusing them), and some DLP bashing in the later ANs (again, 2006).

It has fantastic world-building, an amazing Harry-Dumbledore relationship, one of the best fight scenes I've ever read in any medium, and more.

Hi all. I'm trying to find a story where a different darker version of Harry lives with James, Lily and his younger sisters and hates them. Then something happens, I can't quite remember what, but Harry changes and tries to get along better with his family and protect them, only James and one of his sisters really doesn't trust that he has actually changed.

I think that it was an alternative universe story where a cannon Harry suddenly ended up taking the place of the darker one described above, though I could be wrong.

 

It does ring a bell, actually, but I remember nothing else concerning the plot and no author or title details.

That does sound familiar. I thought that it might have been in AR but a quick poke around found nothing.

Was the original Harry a Death Eater or a spy by any chance?
