    Hi,

as most of you guys, I probably already have read most of the good stories out there and am looking for new, or at lest re-readable material.

Do you have any suggestoins for stories like p.e. Wastelands of Time, the Unvorgiving Minute? Don't have to be timetravel but should have real conflict and the protagonists really struggling.
Also the latest developments of HPMOR would fall unter this category.
    Renegade Cause certainly, too.
    So - any other ideas?

Thanks a lot in advance ;)

Sequel, but may be read as standalone:Turn Me Loose: A Harry Potter Adventure by JBern "Harry Potter has returned to England. In the jungles of South America, he became his own man, a hero of his own choice and not unfortunate circumstance. Is it enough to save him?" - https://forums.darklordpotter.net/showthread.php?t=7086

Oneshot crack variation: Apocalypso by Grinning Lizzard: "Harry finds himself in a hellish future. Semi-crack, TGYH challenge response. 1st Person POV and very, very strange." - https://forums.darklordpotter.net/showthread.php?t=20638

Backwards with Purpose has things going pear-shaped after they time travel, but it's not something I would personally describe as "serious." It might still be something to check out though?

Perhaps a better match for the OP's request is one of Ella's other stories, Socks: "Draco Malfoy's murder of Albus Dumbledore causes chaos. AU. Harry/Ginny."

The premise is that Malfoy kills Dumbledore far earlier than in canon. It's a dystopic and dark story after that.

Oh thx normally I typically only start to ready fics with >40k words but I'll try it out now ;)

Just went thorugh your favorites on ff.net and checked out "Palimpset" - the premise sounded like just what I might be looking for but then I was quite disappointed a few chapters in, when nothing happens..

Larry Huss always seems to take a long time to get his stories going, partly because he actively tries to emulate Jack Vance in his prose style (i.e., spend a paragraph saying cleverly and indirectly what one could in a few words otherwise).

In the spirit of the thread, you might enjoy more his other story Out of the West more. It's an extreme AU where he invents a third group that's not magical, not mundane, but have other special magic-like talents, then crosses it over with the HP world. It's decently done and one of the more existentially challenging AUs out there. The story summary doesn't do it justice.

Self-plug, if you can handle something incomplete: In Essence Divided. Shit doesn't so much hit the fan as much as the fan has been dropped in the sewers.

Kwan Li's The Other Boy Who Lived is another of this ilk that I'd recommend. It's one where I seriously wondered how the author was going to pull off any sort of acceptable ending given how plussed-up Voldemort was and how badly stacked the odds were for those opposing him.

Thx, I try it out right now! The beginning is already fantastic. I already loved Alexandra Potter ... btw, I don't know whether it's coomon knowledge: Do you not have time to write more/finish your stories? Or do you lose interest in them after having outlined a world/premise/...? That's sooo unfortunate!?

    EDIT:
Awesome! Just finished "In Essence Divided". Thx, I should have expected nothing less, of course ;)
A few (hundred) thousand words of your writing would be very appreciated! :p

The epitome, I think, of what I'd call a "desperate" plot.

Warning HP/DM slash (story's only drawback for me) and (sometimes) extreme angst.

I agree - I would not mind the slash - imo this fic it is one of the veeeery rare well-done HPDM romances - it would just be soo much better if someone just deleted every 2nd reiteration of "self-imposed boundaries breaking/"now finally really understanding and forgiving Snape"" angst. This would probably mean shortening the fic by about 20 (30?)% ... :p
