I thought the first episode was good, like a sort of "Let's get you comfortable for the ride, shall we?". Then I watched episode two. Holy fuck.

I friggin' loved it. Riding a complete Sherlock!High after this one, can't wait for the third episode. If you haven't seen it yet, just, just watch it. Where's that awesome smiley at...

    :awesome

There we go. That's my face after seeing the 2nd ep. Thankfully I watched them both in one go, I think its probably better that way as I can understand if one thought the first episode a bit... unsatisfying. Gahhh I want to watch ep3 naoooooo!

I think the writers have fallen a bit too much in love with themselves.

What made the show so great was that you had a great mystery each episode, interspersed with great character moments which slowly developed the characters' relationships in the context of other events occurring.

The last two episodes have reversed the formula, putting the character interactions centre stage and all but abandoning the "solving crimes" element. The first episode featured a half-assed mystery to be tackled with trivial ease near the end of the episode, this one featured mostly flashbacks. And the sad thing is that you, the watcher, solved the mystery well before Sherlock did. The army dude as the target, the photographer is the murderer... it all fell in to place the moment he dropped the glass. The next five minutes of Sherlock flailing and connecting the dots were painful.

The real problem, however, is that even though they're devoting these episodes primarily to character development, the character development this season is actually massively inferior to that of previous seasons. In both this episode and the last one, John and Sherlock have been simply declaring their thoughts and feelings. I'm just sitting here screaming "Yes, we get it, Sherlock and John are bros... now please, can we watch them actually DO something."

This. Having two episodes putting a spotlight on Sherlock and Watson's bromance and not much else may be a little too much, but you can't say that the writers don't know what people want since most fans are very pleased with it anyway.

If I was doing the show, the second episode would go to the fourth season. We had enough bromance stuff in the first one and additionally that would give Mary a chance to breath a little more as a person in Sherlock's life before another big change in their dynamics.

Just saw the episode a few hours ago and I fucking loved it. I guess they are moving to this type of episode because after fucking Moriarty what can honestly compare.

Anyway did anyone else catch Mary being incredible nervous after the name CAM was mentioned. And isn't CAM the initial of the villain appearing next episode.

Plus if you pause at the right moment when John & Sherlock go 'shopping for suits' or whatever their excuse was, she pulls a really weird face with her thumbs up right under the mounted animal they have on the wall; giving her horns. Combined with the CAM note and her reaction, safe to say Watson's going to be in some real trouble in the final episode.

I really disliked the second episode, and share the opinion of Taure. I hope it gets better next episode, but I'm not getting my hopes up. To me it felt like a romantic comedy with an uninspired whodunnit clumsily attached to it. There some good moments, true, but it had more noticeable moments that were, as Taure aptly names them, painful. I suppose certain parts of the fandom will prefer this approach. I personally don't.

So I just got round to watching episode 2, and I was rather underwhelmed by it. Certainly it had its good points, it was at times quite amusing, at times quite tense. But overall, there were far too many moments during it where I was honestly bored.

Enough with the bromance, just get on with letting Sherlock be Sherlock, and solve some crimes.

Yes. The way they cut the episodes together/produce it is entertaining enough for me on it's own, frankly.

Shezza!! And Moriarty!! Can. Not. Review. Over. My. Fanboy. Squeals.

Edit: After watching it again, I have to conclude that there is no evidence that Moriarty is alive, and while it's possible Moffat was lying and Moriarty isn't dead (and I still hold out hope for this) it doesn't seem that likely. Or plausible. I'd be inclined to think that either Sherlock or Mycroft set it up so Sherlock wouldn't have to go to eastern Europe and die.

There sure was a lot of stuff going on during this episode, but they managed to tie up all plot points fairly well. Magnusson was sufficiently creepy.

I'm not sure what to think about that ending though...

    Did you miss me?

Well, my word. The ending was predictable given Sherlock's question to John, though not quite what I was expecting regarding an actual ending.

Here's to waiting another 2 years.

The first half was better than the second half. Magnusson was suitably creepy, but I didn't get an impression that he was on Sherlock's level. That's why how he handled him was a little surprise to me. Especially after discovering that his blackmail material is just an illusion. Letting everyone know would destroy most of his influence over other people though because of Mary it could only be used as sort of MAD situation. But this Sherlock probably wanted to shoot him from the beginning.

I'm a little conflicted about the last twist. Not only because without it Sherlock would be in Poland by now (a map on Mycroft's laptop). Having Moriarty back is fine, but it takes away from their final confrontation and chances are they will not be able to top that. Assuming that's him and not a misdirection by someone else or even Sherlock himself.

I have no idea what I just watched. I'm going to have to rewatch the entire series, I think. It's either extremely clever or utter bollocks - but either way, I've enjoyed it so far.

And as if proof were needed that Moffat is a lying little shit...(spoilers)

You know, there's no actual proof it was Moriarty.

Said the same in my hidden post, but it's probably him. Or at least there will be a character played by Andrew Scott pretending to be him in the next series because otherwise this kind of twist will be confirmed once they start its production.
