I do like that you can't keep Sherlock down. Adler is done different in every retelling of the Holmes saga but I think I like this one the best.

As soon as Mycroft says "It would take Sherlock to fool me.." I giggled, and whispered "yes, yes.." So much glee in Sherlock never being fooled, or at the very least getting the last laugh.

If the next two installments are up to the same level, the BBC truly have outdone themselves. I'm almost fapping over how fucking good this was, and I think I'll have to re-watch Season 1... waiting for the second episode will be torture.

Out of curiosity... how many brits on here think the BBC use up too much money compared to the output of awesomeness they get? Shows like Dr. Who, Top Gear, the new Sherlock, 1995s Pride & Prejudice, countless of Attenborough productions.. and I'll add in the Formula 1 coverage they've done recently, its epic stuff (And this has partly been cut, which I'm still raging over, I don't want to see Sky's douchebaggery fucking with my F1).

Fucking epic. Just a flat out crazy, hilarious, and awesome way to spend an hour and a half.

Moriarty and Sherlock have so much swagger, it's ridiculously awesome. The opening scene was great, and it just got awesomer from there. Irene was brilliant, crazy dominatrix and all. The CIA Agent "falling out the window", Buckingham Palace ash tray stealing, the montage at the start of the episode and the later connection to the actual case, the fight scene with the safe booby trap... Yeeeaaaaah. Definitely rewatching.

    Also, LATERS.

Wow. I think this is one of the best things i've ever seen in my life. I can't get over how utterly fantastic it was.

A definite step up from Season 1, and Season 1 was great in itself. Will be rewatching that as I wait for the next episode.

The Addler/Holmes dynamic was so incredibly well done.

And I actually laughed out loud with the falling out of the window thing. It caught me completely by surprise.

I can also definitely see Moffat's writing in this when you take a look at some of the episodes he's done for Doctor Who.

This series is beyond amazing. I can't believe I was afraid it would suck when it got announced a few years ago.

For a few moments, I thought that the show was going to lose me. I didn't particularly enjoy the Irene Adler from the Holmes movies and I thought they were going to turn this Adler into another one of those. I don't think there are enough words in this world to show just how glad I am that I was wrong in that regard.

It was amazing in every regard. It humanized Sherlock by showing just how different from humans he is. By the end of the episode when he gives his "love is a weakness" lecture...it was just perfect.

I loved everything about it. It was just. Amazing. The lighting, the plot, the acting... I'd forgotten how incredible this show was.

I just went and rewatched the end of it, and felt like coming back and making a comment about how incredibly well done electronic communication is in this show.

The fact that they have the text written on the screen beside the phone works so much better than I thought it would of. It's done simply, elegantly, and doesn't clash with anything. And the show would be so much less without it.

Right, I'm done sucking this show's cock now. :/

Just watched it. That was fucking amazing. Incredible stuff. Makes him a bit more human than the actual book and a lot more personal.

    Some background reading for you.

    Watson's blog.
Molly Hooper's blog (no longer continued).
    And Holmes' website.

No word yet on whether they've done one for Irene Adler though ;)

I was actually about to come back to comment the same thing, having re-watched Season 1 this entire morning. Its SO good yet... the first episode in Season 2 is even better. Moffat is genius.

I was pretty happy when I heard he was taking over as lead writer & executive producer of Dr. Who. Here's hoping he gets to do many a more season of it and the new Sherlock. Cus' this is starting to surpass the excellence of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.

Oh, what? They deleted the section on tobacco ash!

I'm curious, outpouring of positive opinions aside, does anyone have any negative comments to make about this new episode?

My only issue, and I didn't mind that much frankly, was the over-sexualisation of Adler.

I also didn't really pick up on the time skip very clearly. There was one, wasn't there? Adler said she gave Sherlock six months to crack her phone code.

Yeah, they showed winter and all but still, I agree, I wouldn't have known that it was six months if they hadn't said it out loud.

Other than that, agree with the general opinion. Fantastic episode. Anyone know when the next one is coming out?

Looooved the episode. Writing was top-notch. There are two things that sprung out on me though.

First: How did the police not figure out the Boomerang mystery? The boomerang was there with blood on it. I know there was an image of it lying in the dirt a little ways a way, but it couldn’t have been that far away.

Second: Irene got her head chopped off in a foreign country. Coincidently, Sherlock was out of Britain when it happened. Why has no one jumped to the obvious conclusion that Sherlock may have interfered? I mean, Mycroft should have figured it out at least. Even if Sherlock snuck out of Britain with no one knowing, that brings up even more problems on how no one noticed.
I rather liked Irene. She seemed like an actual human being rather than just a love interest like in the Holmes movie. Hopefully we’ll see more of her if there’s a third season.

Hum ... I firmly believe that anything tagged "Sherlock Holmes" belongs into years that start with 18, and movies that lack colour. I'm not a fan at all of moving things up or down the timeline; and as such, I didn't watch the first season.

I did watch this episode, purely because I was curious how they would use Irene Adler, and I must say it was a good decision. Sure, I can't really reconcile Sherlock and iPhone and neither Watson and blogs, however, the thing is that here, it doesn't matter. It can be Sherlock Holmes or it can't be, what it is in any case is a damn good movie. The twist and turns in the plot, the dynamics between Sherlock and Adler, the characters themselves -- Sherlock and especially Irene Adler (<3, and who didn't see that coming :p), the visual filming stuff, all of that is great.

So I don't know whether I'll watch other episodes, but this one ended up on my computer and will be watched again.

@Vira: I was pretty sure the boomerang ended up in the river and was carried away by the water? At least that's what I got from when Sherlock and Adler talked about it.

I have to admit I was a bit surprised where this episode went.

It was certainly pretty awesome, but it didn't feel like Sherlock Holmes. He was too close to James Bond.
Since when does he have awesome fight skills and is able to mount such a rescue operation?
(But I didn't read/watch all incarnations of Sherlock Holmes, so it could be that the ones where he isn't an action hero in addition to being a genius are the exception.)

The Sherlock of the novels and short stories was a remarkable and well known fighter. From memory he was particularly skilled in boxing and baritsu. Which I believe is actually called Bartitsu and is an European martial art for gentlemen.
