I just had a thought. To help raise money for a new server, it just occurred to me that DLP should start selling ad-space. What do you guys think? Is it possible? And if it is SHOULD we?

I'm talking the things that mugglenet has ads for. (I don't think there's much of a market otherwise.)

But if we could, do you think this is a good idea?

What the hell are you talking about mate?

Raven hosts us, and we've bought VB.

To the original question: No, hell no, and fuck no.

Erm, why would we want or need a new server? I host us just fine, on a professional server hosted remotely. Now, tell me your rationelle for needing a new server?

Er, Chucky, what are you talking about? We don't need to go to a new server...Raven is already hosting us.

Maybe he was talking about going to vBulletin and just got confused. And I agree with Xiph on this.

I am a COLOSSAL fool.

    I meant Vbulletin.

Raven, you do a FANTASTIC job. I wouldn't want anyone else to do it.

God, I really am Tech (Opposite of savvy). I meant the bulletin thing that we've been collecting donations for. SOrry.

Change the poll. My poll doesn't make sense, and is wrong.

But what about the other idea. For a little while at least to expedite the process. I don't really know the consequences of this, or if there are any repercussions. I just figured it would be a faster way to get VBulletin.

Again, I am sorry, AND embarrassed. Please don't hurt me. :D

EDIT: And I've just read Xipho's post again. I just whipped through first, realized I'd fucked up, posted, then re-read. OKay, so I'm dumb on all counts. I didn't even know we HAD vBulletin already.

What exactly does it do? I don't mean this sarcastically, I'm just that stupid. Am I using it now? Is it something noticeable?

Zevrillion needs to do the Theme/Colours for the board, and then we can move onto it.

Its Forum software, which is much Much more versatile then this, and is a one time fee.

Again, to ads: No, Fuck no.

    lol, Chucky.

The board we're using right now is a phpBB. vB Bulletin has a lot more features...that's why Raven wanted it. And we got the money a few weeks ago, Zev is making a new skin for the board, like the one we're using right now, that's why we haven't moved just yet.

    OH!!!!

Well, I'll alright! Go VBulleting, down with whatever we currently use! ;)

Okay, well, I guess we don't need the money. No adds wanted, or needed.

Okay, let me pose it as a hypothetical. Let's say the site needed some new equipment that was very expensive, would you guys rather we wait for 8months or sell adds and get it in 2 1/2 months.

This seems more reasonable yes? I'm not making any gaffes here? The point was if DLP needs stuff, should we sell ads to get it? This one I say no to, but I'm somewhat on the fence. I don't see making money as a bad thing if it helps the site, and we don't let it affect the way we run things. BUt that's my opinion. WHat do you guys think?

P.S. If I say anything stupid here, let me know.

I'd rather wait 8 fucking months then buy into commercializing the internet.

I'd go with Xippy on this one...8 months is going to be better than selling out space for (*gasp*) ads. When you start getting ads on a site, it really takes the quality down, and they can be distracting...I'm mainly thinking of some of the ads that pop-up on FFN, but some of the others can be like that as well...

Mmhmm, I agree, ads do bring down the quality of a site. However, they are a necessary aspect for some sites to bring in some money. The pop-up ads are the ones that most annoy me...you can still make a site look tasteful with just a few strategically placed ads on the site itself.

Pop-ups suck. I don't think anyone wants those. But a few strategically placed, and off to the side for some of those "Ollivander's Wands" company?

That I could get behind. I don't like mugglenet in general, but they have tasteful ads. I could support that if we did something like that here.
