Tried searching for this subject but could not find a topic.

In public opinion, Black was the right hand man of Lord Voldemort. If this was the case, why didn't the authorities have Black pumped full a truth agent to have him telling his deepest, darkest secrets to the world? I know that if any government had caught someone like Black and has assess to some truth agent, they would have used it to make Black name names before you can say "dark lord".
Sorry if I don't make since, this idea popped in my head about 10 minutes ago. It had to get out.

In that thing you call a closet. Better watch out,
Of course they wouldn't. The war has just ended, they had multiple eye-witnesses, to them, it was bloody obvious he did it.

They had tons of shit to do, other Death Eaters, Imperious curses, weeding out who is who, who had died, casualty counts, reforms, tons and tons of shit. Why waste their time on a fucked up kid from a Dark family who had a brother as a Death Eater, with all the evidence pointing to him?

Him telling names might have helped their search, but who knows what Black knew. Who knows what Voldemort had taught him to resist? And, even if he did name names, when they interrogated someone else, say Lucius, he could say he was under Imperious. Remember, you can't test imperious.

This has been covered countless times, but Rostam pretty much nailed it. The war was finally over and they didn't want to deal with anymore shit. Why go through a lengthy trial when it's painfully obvious that he is guilty? I mean, it's not like the legal system means anything in the wizarding world anyways.

I can understand what your getting at, not so much the trial but why not just get all the death eaters and dark art stashes from sirius? I'd say it was probably mostly a lack of thinking and just wanting to get everything hidden away, out of site out of mind.

On a side note, does it ever say that lucius had truth serum, with his connections isnt it likely that he wouldn't have to have it.

I think they would of used truth serum because while the war was over they truly didn't know who was good and who was truly bad. Whether it be in the ministry or anyone else.

I think this is a plot hole that JKR tried to cover up making the ministry a bunch of morons who will do anything to cover there own skin in the eyes of the public and thus make it seem possible they really didn't want to know what Black would say.

I believe the correct term for most of the wizarding court's as we've seen is " Kangaroo Court"

She was asked that question, actually. What she answered was that Veritaserum isn't infallible. A wizard with a strong will is able to lie even under the influence of Veritaserum. Sirius would have probably been willing to be given some, but he was known to be a pure-blooded strong-willed wizard. They thought they couldn't get a confession out of him, and that there was no point in trying.

On the subject, I'll have to take the risk of looking narcissistic and quote myself from another thread:
I'll add that Sirius was thought guilty of being Voldemort's right arm. They arrested him when they probably weren't sure yet that Voldemort had disappeared. They wanted him locked up as quick as possible, without giving him a chance to escape. Between Sirius' attitude (laughing) and Dumbledore's word, he didn't stand a chance in a trial anyway.
