Tied For Last, a story that I posted in For Review that's sitting at 1 star, is being rewritten:
    http://www.fanfiction.net/u/822022/Speechwriter

    I take full credit.

But in all seriousness, I hope she takes DLP's advice and makes the story worthy of the library. The bulk of the problems are with the setup and the ending, which admittedly make the most significant impression on readers after the fact, even if they aren't the most important parts.

Anybody know of any other authors that have gotten slayed by DLP and decided to do a rewrite/renovation because of it?

They're much more likely to throw a hissy fit and then call DLP a bunch of douchebags/internet tough guys (or my personal favorite), a cesspool than actually change anything.

People who get "slayed" on DLP do so because their type of horrible writing crosses with the type of personality that doesn't handle criticism well, so no, we have not saved many souls.

The only example I can think of. It's refreshingly encouraging, but somehow, even in this triumphant case, there's still a downer side.

It's awful that FFnet reviewers discourage him from taking DLP's critiques in a positive manner, saying all the tough Internet guys are on this forum so anything DLP's reviewers say should be ignored. It's one thing when someone responds badly; then it's understandable that reviewers flock to him in support.

But here we have an unprecedented example of a writer taking the heat, looking past the blows taken by his ego, and for once taking what DLP has to offer. What do reviewers do when he explains that he wants to address the issues we pointed out and begin anew in a rewrite?

These guys actually don't want him to improve. They want him to remain bad at writing.

Cool... nice to know there are some success stories, so to say, even if they are far and wide.

Any critique I get from DLP I take seriously and my writing has definitely improved since I've been here, but it can be quite disturbing when you look over some old stories of yours and you can mark the change from pre-exposure-to-wastelands-of-time to post-exposure-to-wastelands-of-time.

I don't know if it's a bad thing or not but my writing used to focus on the comical and then after about 6 months here it got a little disturbing and fairly dark, now if I try to write anything aiming for a down-to-earth and light tone it falls very flat.

I actually have a story buried somewhere in the wip, and while the reviews I got from DLP where not harsh I decided to just let the thread get buried. Still have to work on some of my plot bunnies and try my hand at really write something though... Who knows, maybe I'll give it a try in july.

Why wasn't this fic called Wastelands of Melodrama again? (I kid, I kid)

DLP for me has given me the impetus to begin writing, and to nix many, many shit ideas before they get off the ground. Just by reading critiques and forming my own opinions I have a better understanding of what a good fic is, and writing in general.

I'd say that any of the good fics in WbA have also benefited from DLP's harsh critique.

Wait, it's not Wastelands of Melodrama? Huh. (Searches)

No. I'm pretty sure it's called that.

    :awesome

That would be an amazing title for a parody of Joe's work.
