Most of my friends know that I read it and write it. My girlfriend knows and I've tried getting her into it several times to know avail (She just wanted to watch the movies because she found Clemence Posey hot), but other then that nobody really knows.

Not really out of shame or embarassment, just that it's never come up. If someone asked though I'd probably tell because if they don't like it, well then I can rest my nuts on their forehead and there's nothing they could do about it.

Heh. One of my friends knows, because she introduced me to the HPverse about two years ago. My parents know, which is unfortunate, because I left a screen open and left for a minute.

I don't think my mom really cares all that much, because she is addicted to TV, and I spend all my time on the computer. My dad on the other hand...continually tries to get me off it, and even had me take a 'Are you addicted to online gaming' quiz. He handed it to me, told me to substitute "Those...Harry Potter story things", go over the quiz, and then he told me they might have to do an 'intervention'.

    >_<
I said that I was probably less addicted than he thinks I am.

Just about everyone in my household know I read/write fanfiction. My sister and I are the only ones who truly love it, though. Her boyfriend makes fun of us, but gently. No one else knows aside from a cousin who lives in Texas, everyone else thinks I'm writing what I'm supposedto be writing when I tell them I'm writing, which is screenplays. That's the only time I feel a little dirty about it.

Generally I don't talk about it, though. Not many people understand where I'm coming from, they think it's a waste of my time (and talent), etc.

    Screw 'em.

Parents know, and i think some of my cousins, uncles, and aunts know but dont really get it. Dont really bother to hide it at home but I would never talk about it freely because that would probably be social death.

Might I ask where you have come up with that particular number? I was under the impression that it would be impossible to know just how many people read fanfiction and as such was one of the primary reasons why we, that wish to, have remained in this, particular, proverbial closet.

well fuck and shit it's been a long day. Sorry about lowering everyone's IQs there, I sincerely am, yet I feel as if I made no intimation that would make him think that I was only talking about DLP. I don't know, maybe I was responding to something I assumed he meant as opposed to what he said. Anyway, I'll throw out an apology to every member right now.

Most of the people I talk to know that I write fanfiction, even though I haven't actually written any in quite a while.

    Even my parents knew.

Heh, unfortunately we're hailed as lunatics by the rest of the world.

People just cannot understand what fanfiction means to the young authors.

My friends know, my younger brother read HP, though he cannot quite grasp what the heck I'm reading all this time (even though I've told him several times, he just unable to get it). But my friends, well, even though they're of a better kind, it's kinda hard to miss what they all think of it.

And honestly, I coudn't care less, I've started to answer the questions about what my hobbies are, to whoever would ask, with simple: 'I'm HP fan.' It's kinda funny, most people would pretend to turn temporarily deaf, but the stupid questions would stop. Kek kek. I think they're scared, come to think of it, I should probably change my answer to: 'I'm a DLP member.' Muahahaha

Well, my sister knows since she actually introduced it to me. I had made fun of her for about two months after a found out. On a bored afternoon I started looking around. I found some really crappy stories first and I was clueless to why she was reading it. When I found a good one...I was addicted.

My mother and father know as well. But, seeing as the computer is in my living room...it would be hard to keep it cover. My older brother knows, he's 24. He doesn't really care though.

Most of the people I know think I'm a few cards short of a full deck anyways, so telling them about fanfiction wouldn't really matter. My parents know that I write and read it - matter of fact, I just got my dad started reading nonjon's Browncoat, Green Eyes. Of course it probably helps that he was a Firefly fan to begin with...

My older brother is the one who actually got me started writing fanfiction. I write alot of original stuff, and he handed me the books one day and asked me what I could do with them. My sister is a big slash fan and that's all I'm going to say about her. My girlfriend doesn't care as long as I give her something interesting to read - she's also the one who gets me to update once in a while. Kudos to her. ;)

Eh, I just can't find embarrassment in reading/writing fanfiction. There are much stranger hobbies out there, like, say, Necrophilia?

For me, nobody knows anything except for the barest details of a couple of years ago. My Mum knows, but only that I used to read it, not what type, since I sucked at computers when I was 15 and didn't know how to hide my tracks. I', pretty sure she doesn't know I still read it. My little brother knows, but only that I used to read FF8 Fanfiction, not Harry Potter.
The only person who knows that I actually write is a friend from school, but she think's it's Stargate and Farscape (She's a writer as well, Sailor Moon...*gag*) and not Harry Potter- and since I've finished school, I'll never see her again.

For me, it's not something you sort of spring up in a conversation.
"So..uh...what do you do when you're bored."
    "Play games. You?"
    "I...um...I...write Harry Potter Fanfiction."
"Ah. Just one thing. What the hells is 'fan fiction'?"
    "You know what, never mind."

    Yep. Know the feeling.

I once got drunk, and was trying to pick up a girl. She asked what I do for fun, and I, being drunk, say,
Me: "You know what I do? I read Harry Potter."
Her: "You mean you read the books over and over?"
Me: "Nope. I read new ones. I read other people's Harry Potter."

I went into a long winded speech/rant/lesson about fanfiction. She went to the bathroom and never came back. :D

    Lulz0r Chuck, that's brilliant. Real smooth. :p

Interestingly enough it seems I'm not as sly as I thought I was.

In my school we pick someone to write comments next to our picture in the yearbook (no idea if this is done everywhere or what) and my mate said something like this 'I just can't help it. I'm gonna have to write about your Harry Potter obsession.' To which I responded with O_O. So yeah, not quite as Slytherin as I though I was.

Well. My Minions all know. None of them react in the slightest. (Being the Emperor of a Galactic Sheepocracy has its benefits after all.)

In the cruel, unforgiving world outside the confines of my monitor, my best friend knows, but like a true friend, he doesn't make fun of me in the slightest.

My other friends know as well but they occasionally make fun of me for it. I shrug the insults off and threaten them lightly and manage to change the topic.

My parents (Yes, even an Emperor Sheep was a fertilized egg once) know, but they hardly even think of the matter.

But outside my Inner Circle, nobody knows. I don't exactly have a SheepStar orbital battlestation to keep their mouths shut on hand...
