Jungle Boogie - Kool and the Gang
Drift Away - Dobie Gray (Got a rather good story to go along with this song, and I feel like sharing it with you fine people)

I was in Pittsburgh visiting a few friends who go to school there. My first night we go out and get piss drunk at a house party and decide to take a bus back across town to my friends school. We get to the bus stop and I light up a cig when all of a sudden this black dude walks up to us and asks if he can bum a smoke off me. I tell the guy, "Sure thing mate, I'm having a good night so... have 2 instead."

The dude goes on to tell us how he lost his job earlier in the day and went home to find his wife cheating on him with his best friend. He said he had just been walking around thinking about jumping off a bridge and killing himself. At this point 2 other college guys show up planning on taking the same bus back to my friends school. We all spend the next 10 minutes telling this black dude how he's got so much to live for and that lives beautiful, (You know, shit thats inspirational when you're drunk) etc. etc. The dude starts to agree with us, and he tells us how he was a mechanic but his real passion was singing and he was going to sing for us.

At first he starts out with some Elvis classics which continue until the bus arrives. Once we get on the bus we all sit right up at the front and he starts to sing Drift Away. All 5 of us start clapping with the beat and singing along with the chorus when he hits it. Slowly we get the whole front of the bus to start clapping with us. (This bus was packed mind you, front of the bus was college kids, the middle of the bus was some middle aged folks, and the back was more college kids) The clapping slowly creeps to the middle when I yell out, "Come on back of the bus, get into it!" Soon the whole fucking bus is clapping to the beat and singing along.

The song finally ended and the black dude got up, shook our hands and thanked us for saving his life, and then got off at some random place.

None of us knew his name, so we just decided to call him Soul Man. I'll forever treasure that experience.

Thats why that song never gets old for me.

Gots to keep the funk alive.
