Usually I don't pay attention to messages and use the forum to get to restricted for non users part. I rarely post. So I have to ask if there are parts of the forum that a default user doesn't access, and what to do to access those parts?

The Sorting Hat Forum has been introduced after a plague of spam bots registered and posted pageloads of spam, including sending private messages to users. Posting there is only necessary (and possible) if you have a post count of zero. Since you joined and posted before that, you can safely ignore the message.
