On the other hand the Merlin is a way too fucking obvious suspect for him to actually be Cowl.

I don't think it is Elaine, Harry would have recognized her and she just isn't the type for this.

Gard is mentioned (in Small Favor, as Harry is carrying her from the room after the Denarian attacked) as being six feet tall, which seems like something Harry would notice about Kumori. She's mentioned in Dead Beat as the smaller of the two in reference to Kumori and Cowl, and if Cowl was mentioned as physically imposing, I can't recall it.

Back to Cowl, though, he does call Dresden 'boy' in it, so that would seem to imply he's a good bit older than Dresden is. Doesn't help with identifying him as a White Council member, if he even is one, but yeah.

Yeah Dresden is like in his 30's anyone with the power like Cowl had Im gonna say would be able to call Dresden's great great great grandfather a boy.

Speaking of The Merlin, does he remind anyone else of badly done Manipulative/Evil!Dumbledore in HP fanfiction?

Haha... the author nicely wrote it out for us. That's the theory I'd go with.

About Merlin or The Gatekeeper being Cowl, during Dead Beat it says on page 297(paper back) that they were with the warden during this time. That means that they couldn't be Cowl.

I think you're forgetting that the Gatekeeper can travel through time. Think about that, it means that any alibi he wants can be handed to him on a silver platter, just because he can go back to that time at a later date.

However, the Gatekeeper is, like seven feet tall, and Cowl is average.

    From Summer Knight.

    From Dead Beat.

However, while it does say Cowl was the larger of the two, I think Harry would have said something about him being seven feet tall.

Also, while it could have been a veil, if we go down the 'veil' path it could be absolutely anyone. Even Mister.

Im telling you that Cowl is Harry Potter and that Kumori is Luna Lovegood.

Cowl is leagues beyond anyone we have seen in action so far. We have heard of McCoy, the Merlin, and the Gatekeeper fighting but we have not seen it.

I dunno I kind of figured that he was on par with Thorned Namshiel.

Harry only beat Thorned Namshiel the first time because he was caught by surprise and Uriel helped him out with a bit of soulfire. If you'll recall, Namshiel wasn't entirely aiming to kill Dresden in the last battle, just steal the coins back without him noticing.

Yea that was my point, Namshiel regarded Dresden as about as much of a threat as Cowl did. Harry didn't have a chance in hell against Namshiel without the extra help, Cowl would have wiped the floor with Dresden just as easily as TN did if he had ever really focused on killing him. As I recall TN was going to kill Dresden at the end with the strangler spell until Michael took his head off with the sword.

Thorned Namshiel would wipe the floor with Cowl in a clean fight. His experience alone puts more in his corner than everything Cowl has going for him.

I dunno, I kinda think that after the more powerful people hit a certain level that it just didn't make a massive difference. I mean having 30 different tricks to pull out instead of only a dozen?

Still what we do know about Cowl is that he is old enough and skilled enough to look pretty far down on Harry when they first meet, so he's probably at least a century or so old. He also has had the time to cultivate at least one extremely loyal follower. The more I think about it the more I like him being the Russian who was supposed to be killed, with Kumori being one of the others who was supposedly killed.

Thing about Namshiel is he has most likely seen 99% of the tricks that you can think of. The only thing that caught him off guard was the soulfire and how often even you are a fallen angel do you see that?

You have might have 12 tricks up your sleeves but what happens if he has seen those 12 tricks and has 12 counter tricks for every last one of your tricks?
