I grew up with Speed Racer so it was a no brainier that I would be going to see this movie and I'll simply say, so as not to ruin it for anyone, that for me it was much better then Iron Man.....but considering this forum I might just get blasted:mrgreen:

I saw it out of respect for the cartoon, too, but I can't say it was quite as good as Iron Man. Good? Yes. Great? Absolutely. Even so, it's not that good.

Really? The commercials made it look fucking stupid x 10. What about it is different then the commercials they're airing that makes up for that?

 

It does get pretty damn stupid at times (read: every time Speed's younger brother is in the camera. Seriously), but everything else is pretty good. The race scenes, especially, are pretty awesome. The first one is meh, but the other two just...well, there's just something about people intentionally causing other cars to explode that is just awesome.

It was a two hour nostalgic acid trip.

5/5 for the WTF value and the nostalgia (they followed the cartoon way too well) 0/5 if you actually want to see a good movie and never watched the cartoon

 

I dunno, midknight is right. The commercials made it look pretty stupid.

 

I thought this was one of the greatest movies this year. I know most will probably not like this movie, but for me it just clicked. Maybe it was because I watched the cartoon as a kid, but whatever it was was done splendidly. I'm going to go back to see it again, and buy it as soon as it comes out on DVD.
