Are there any decent Spider-Man fanfics with a focus on the symbiote phase? Whether it just goes more into detail about what it was like for Peter before rejecting the symbiote or an alternate spin on it entirely where he keeps it or finds it under different circumstances, I'd be up for reading something like that. I tried looking up this on my own, but googling for Peter Parker and symbiote or, God forbid, Venom just brings up fics that usually just involve a pairing with said symbiote/Venom.

Bumping this thread because I just stumbled across a fun crackfic that’s put me on a spiderman kick:

    Peter Parker, Agent of Hydra

It’s by Scrivener, who also wrote Variant Strain. Basic premise is that Peter gets a research gig at a great/progressive/exciting company that he doesn’t realize is a Hydra cell. It’s a lot of fun. Kind of a comedy of errors, but by the end does have a pretty solid plot.

This is pretty entertaining in its own way. Peter seems absurdly dim to not be picking up on certain things, but that's a necessary plot contrivance, builds a sense of dramatic irony, and is a forgivable sin.

First fic which has caught my interest in ages. There's no real flair to the writing, but it's enjoyable.

Just got done reading what there was a little bit ago myself. Then sadly was reminded that Variant Strain was last updated in 2013.

December 8th, 2013. Or so the last update claims. I know, I was surprised as well.

If you go on space battles, I think they have an update or two more on there. I know he has the ending there and he posted a few days ago that he was about a third done with the epilogue.

I was checking there when I made the post, though... Hmm.

He made a second thread. The last update came in 2017.

Thread in Reader Mode for those interested.

Huh, I'm really not sure why I missed that thread when looking around his profile and stuff. It's not exactly hiding. Thank you, though.

I actually have read most of it, but I'm re-reading anyway, as it's been years.

Guess I was only missing the last two parts. An interesting conclusion. Thank you, once again, for the heads up.
