I've been thinking about this for awhile, not sure if anyone would agree though since there's little actual mention of squibs....

Unless I'm wrong throughout the entire series we have yet to see Filch being cursed in any manner. Based off this I'm thinking that squibs contrary to not having any magic at all, have entirely to much. Up to the point that the lower level magics do not effect them, allowing for the unforgivables that were most likely used on squibs during the first war. Yet wizarding society does not care since squibs cannot use magic due to them having to much.

Hey, that's pretty good idea. Gives a solid foundation for squib!Harry + science wiz!Harry. Imagine him discovering the wizarding world at 15-17, working on the problem of his repressed magic and figuring out how to create a vent capable of releasing it. Can you imagine Godlike!Harry, with Figg and Flich as his chief leuthenants?

That would mean Longbottom was godlike as well, since everyone thought he was a squib. I find it far more likely that there are strict laws in place to protect squibs from being cursed. Likely more strict than the laws against cursing muggles since squibs are "good wizarding stock."

Ignoring Neville for a moment, what if though squibs cant use it others can? Some forgotten "shield barer" spell allowing the good and noble war wizard to replenish his strength with the willing help of his liegeman? It could work. Archaic and complicated, it fell out of use because when the rights of squibs decreased (along with the respect they deserve) the squibs stopped being willing vessels to the arrogant wizards.

If anyone is familiar with the series, I am basing this idea on the class of magicians called "catalysts" in the Darksword Trilogy (the last book of which is utter trash. skip it and imagine your own ending. It will be better.)

Heh i could. Scariest babysitter on the block and the crazy cat man. Alright thats a bit strange but it brings up funny images.

And caitiff thanks for that...now i need an explanation for accidental magic...

Lets see - Due to the larger amounts of magic in their bodies the canals(or whatever you want) that seals up their magic from overflowing become extremely strong. Thats the reason why the quickspell helps to a small degree in that it can help get past that barrier. However, accidental magic still cannot get through. As for Neville's case, possible explanations include his dad's wand making it more difficult, having a bit stronger canals then usual or less magic then usual.

And as a side note if anyone wants to use this go ahead, I have no skills as a writer.

What is it with Squibs and cats, anyway? Filch has Mrs. Norris (goodness knows who she married) and Figg has a couple dozen cats... connection?

He wouldn't necessarily have to be godlike, there could be a million reasons for his power being either blocked or reduced. Not having his own wand, a prophecy we don't know about, etc. Then again he could just be plain weak.

As mean spirited and callous towards the students as Filch was, I seriously doubt a law would stop students from cursing him. Especially when you consider that Hogwarts is basically lawless (A high ranking Ministry official was almost killed, and repeatedly attacked yet nobody, primarily the twins, were punished by the MoM as far as we can tell).

Well this can be explained easily enough, with the reason that both Neville and Harry were potential kids of the prophecy. Maybe they were both born as squibs but Voldemort's AK punched a big hole in Harry's barrier, and Bella and co crucioed Neville creating a smaller hole.

It could be one reason why the Unforgivables are so frowned upon, not just the argument of them being dark magic.

As with Filch the reason he could be such a git to students at Hogwarts, is the old hatred of the actions of some arrogant wizards. Just like a lot of the students hate all of Slytherin because some joined Voldemort in the first war.

Just look at how distrustful the Goblins are of wizards, sometimes it takes a lot of generations to erase past wrongs.

Perhaps they are just lonely? They are outcasts in both worlds, really.

It's a good idea, but I still think that Squibs don't have any magic.

A law concerning squibs? I don't think so. In the books even though it doesn't say Filch gets cursed, it says that pranks are pulled on him and Mrs. Norris.

I really like this theory, and if I wrote Harry Potter, I would write this one out. Actually... I think I might just write it out. Well, since this has caused yet another plot bunny attack, im off to plan. ^_^
