What would be an expected number?

Hard to say for sure considering game companies usually keep a pretty tight hold on sales numbers, expectations, and budgets, but in the past EA has considered games like Dead Space abysmal failures for having "only" four million sales.

Wikipedia says BF 2015 was released in mid-November and sold 12 mln copies as of December 31st 2015, so 6 weeks.

BFII has been out for 4 weeks and sold less than 1 mln retail. Let's be generous and assume that retail is 25% of total sales. That would put it at under 4 mln. Let's assume it will sell again that number in just 2 weeks left in the year because of Ep VIII hype. That would put it at 8 mln, which is a number I'm pulling out of my ass, vs BF 2015's 12 mln.

BFII is a sequel with massive hype, compounded with the hype of a massive movie, compounded with the hype of one of the most beloved IPs in the world. It should be making all the monies right now. It isn't. That's a victory.

It's not generous, I remember reading that on average, in the US, retail is right around 25%.

Factor in sequels on the same hardware always selling more yeah, this is a huge loss.

I've seen rumours of Disney dropping EA.

Did we get final sales figures on BFII?

Last I heard, the game sold 7 million copies and they had projected 9 million. I'm not sure if that's just physical or both physical and digital, but I would assume the latter, given the numbers.

As for Disney dropping EA, that's at best wild speculation. There's been a couple of petitions for it, but that's it. There's been no real noise from anyone who would actually know anything about it. I could certainly see them dropping EA, but not before the current contract expires (which if memory serves is in 2022), yet anyway.

There have been a few rumors about them talking to other big publishers. Though even if true, odds are those talks are just talk for now.

I'm just sad we've heard nothing about another KOTOR.

I get that SWTOR is supposed to be the sequel, but still...

You have Bioware, use it even if its justa shell of what it once was.

Bioware's long dead man, and if everything I've heard is even slightly based in truth, once Anthem comes out and flops, EA is going to finally put the corpse out of its misery.

Way too late for that, IMO. Maybe if they release BF3 in that state it'll be worth a look, but that's unlikely.

I don't give a shit if it "saves" their game, I'm just happy they caved to popular demand.

I still want them to burn.

    edit: doublepost

I saw the news and for a few seconds I was tempted to give in and finally shell out for the game.

    But I stayed strong.

I did play it, for about a month, and honestly unless you really need a new online shooter it's not worth it. I mostly enjoyed it while I was actually at the controls, but it wasn't even the best game I played that month.

Yeah. Buying an EA game is sustaining a wide wide variety of awfuk commercial preactices of which lootboxes are just the latest. Some are way worse than the latter, like buying successful original smaller studios, firing or making everyone there quit and then letting it's IPs rot.
