No, I mean, according to what I've read neither he or Snoke are Sith. They're dark side users yes, but not Sith.

Huh. Well I guess that makes sense, in a way. It's not like there was any Jedi either.

Well, I just got back from the movie.

Holy shit, was that good. The effects, the characters, the action, the acting, was all awesome. I now get where people are coming from when they say Rey is a Mary Sue, but I'm ok with that. It's also a bit odd how even Finn manages to do pretty well with a lightsaber, but I'll take it. And I'm still trying to feel like how I feel about at least 90% of the movie taken straight out of A New Hope. But I'm certainly happy I saw it.

Is it weird I feel annoyed they actually went with Kylo Ren being related to the Skywalker family? I was so confident that it would be too obvious. And how long will it take before they admit Rey is Luke's daughter?

Well, when Finn was battling the other storm trooper you see they use something similar to a sword. It's not a big leap to say Finn has been trained with it as well.

The Rey as a Mary Sue argument is stupid. Max Landis should stick to writing six hour screenplays of video games he can never sell. I think the three main characters were so well acted it made the first movies look worse. THe prequels had good actors but terrible direction, editing, and writing. Not a problem here. Too many references to the original, but the "big" moments -- like Rey grabbing the lightsaber at the end -- worked. My problems were nitpicks really, they didn't take away from my enjoyment of it.

The EU stuff was always pretty silly to me, but I hope they have a Empire Strikes Back episode 8, meaning a better movie than its predecessor.

I can confirm Rey being stronger than Kylo Ren is canon and not some Mary Sue whining.

She also has better range and an infinite air juggle.

    Not even close.

You think they'll expand on how that bar lady got a hold of Luke's old lightsaber that fell with his hand in Cloud City?

Definitely. Whether they do it in a film or a tie in book/comic/video game is the question.

But I don't think it will be in one of the two remaining "main" films that are about to come as the bar lady directly refused to answer that question.

Movie kind of dragged for me on second viewing, specifically bar planet arc.

Found my mind wandering into all kinds of crazy theories. My favourite/most hated one being Rey being one of Luke's padawans along with Ben, but he couldn't kill her and mind wiped her instead. Maybe because he loved her... I dunno.

As I said, mind was a wandering.

That's a theory I've heard around. Supposedly in the novelization when she summons the saber, he says "it is you", implying that he knows who she is.

Just watched the movie. The sheer incompetence of the First Order was mind boggling. Easily one of the worst in the Star Wars franchise.

If a squadron of snub-nosed fighters and an amateur girl with 0 training, a grunt, and a decrepit old man can blow up a damn planet, then First Order deserves to lose.

Where are the damn orbital defenses? The Star Destroyers? The Interdictors protecting the Ultra-Death Star? At least when the Rebellion attacked the Death Star it was a total war. They committed everything to it to give them a small chance of success.

There was 0 substance and almost no character development. Luke goes emo after Solo decides to go rogue instead of acting like a Jedi and taking responsibility for his padawan. Apparently, stormtroopers can easily jailbreak a high-profile prisoner out easily and TIE fighters can escape Star Destroyers like it's nobody's business. Oh, lets not forget how a stormtrooper captain has the codes to disable the whole damn shield for Ultra Death Star. Do they think we're stupid? It's like the movie was made by retards, for retards.

Now we have emo Solo talking crap about being "tempted by the light". Is this seriously Star Wars? The light doesn't temp you, only the Dark Side. It's like they completely threw every lore in the franchise.

Here we have a trained Jedi-wannabe-Sith who got his ass handed to him by a girl with 0 training. Come on, they just disregarded the years of hard training the Jedi do just to properly wield lightsabers. If I was Solo, I'd force push that girl and be done with it.

Or you know, force push a pebble behind her head. Or a tree. Coz yanno, he just stopped a blaster fire from moving and not even Master Jedis can do that.

    -_-

You realise this applies pretty directly to A New Hope as well, right?

    Squadron of fighters - check

Amateur with no training - check

    Decrepit old man - check

At least the Death Star was protected by other ships, star destroyers etc. and the Rebel had to commit their forces (star cruisers etc.) to give the snub-nosed fighters a chance to hit the reactor.

On the other hand, Ultra Death Star literally had nothing except for a squadron of TIE fighters... even less.

And oh yeah, force sensitive girl just walks away with no side-effect after destroying the planet.

I think a movie like TFA, which aimed to be entertaining over smart, succeeded in what it set out to do. Personally, I see SW as closer to Power Rangers than GoT.

I guess it's my fault for expecting too much. I've just re-read SW Thrawn Trilogy and it's nothing like Power Rangers btw.

I don't think comparing Star Wars to either of those things is even remotely right.

I'm hoping to see this one again after New Years at some point -- maybe a second viewing can settle some things. I think I'm going to go find the novelization too and see if it's better than the movie, like the Revenge of the Sith novel was.

I think you need to rewatch A New Hope. No cruisers, no Star Destroyers. Just Death Star vs X-Wings.

I think he's confusing A New Hope with Return of the Jedi, which is a full fleet vs fleet battle - in part because they know that Palpatine is on board the second Death Star, so it's a chance to bring down the Empire as a whole, not just a weapon.
