Here is basically that picture in video form.

I thought that scene was so over the top that it zoomed past painful to being hilariously fantastic. Why is General Hux giving a speech to what is essentially a brainwashed army that should already agree with him? Who cares, as Domhnall Gleeson becomes the biggest Large Ham in cinematic history?

My guess is that while they are brainwashed since they were kids, most of them actually believe the thoughts are their own. Much like how TR-8R (the riot control stormtrooper) yells at Finn he is a traitor. He does so because he actually believes in the First Order ideals and is and isn't a mindless drone at the same time.

Well yeah. Doesn't Finn say as much? They were taken as children.

Finn wasn't even his name. He was FN-2187. Stormtroopers don't even have regular names. That's subjugation on another level.

Cafeteria talks must be funny though.

    "How much for that?"

    "24,99."

GR-2498 frowned under the helmet. "No, I'm 2498."

The trooper manning the shop tilted his head. "Your dinner costs 24,99, dummy."

GR-2498 was glad no one could see his embarrassed blush. Thank Snoke for the helmets.

"Oh, right. I mean, of course, how silly of me."

I haven't actually read it, but there is a young adult novella with some character back stories. The stormtroopers seem to have nicknames for each other but Finn doesn't get one because a higher ranking officer doesn't like him or something like that. It makes sense until you start to think about ALL of the stormtroopers on the First Order. How many nicknames can they have?

And see that was the problem. When it was just the occasional subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) thing it was tolerable. The problem with the scene in TFW was that it wasn't even not-so-subtle.

All this Nazi talk reminded me of Nazi hyenas in Lion King.

Maybe I've got it all wrong, but I took Hux's speech as a fun visual joke. TFA was overall more lulzy than I thought it would be.

Late to the party, I finally saw this and loved it.

Rey's super cool, and Finn's hilarious.

Kylo ren seemed to get weaker as the film went on, but a strong introduction, and I enjoy the characters enough that I'm looking forward to seeing more of these films and what's up with this snoke dude.

He didn't exactly get weaker, he was dealt a serious blow by Chewie and was weakened in the dark side after killing Han, due to regret.

Just came back from my second viewing of the movie.

I have to say, I enjoyed it a ton more than the first time. Much fewer things bothered me, the pacing seemed much faster, and a lot more things clicked for me.

For anyone who hasn't watched it a second time, I strongly suggest that you do.

So I finally managed to find the time to watch Star Wars: A New Ho... pardon me Force Awakens.

Main issue? Why the hell couldn't they come up with a more original story? The way things are going the might as well name the next one 'First Order Strikes Back'(I'm already getting flashes of 'Rey I am your brother' scene) Paying homage to the originals is all well and good but seriously you might as well have remade the originals for what the end product turned out to be. Instead we get an antagonist who is a Darth Vader knock-off at best and Anakin Skywalker part-II at worst.

And despite all that... this was so much fun. This is one of those cases of the sum of the parts being greater than the whole. There were times when I felt the movie should've hung back a bit, slowed the pace to let the audience drink in the gravity of the events unfolding but those are relatively minor concerns. And despite my complaints about the lack of originality, I think they eventually did the smart thing by keeping things as they did.

Those are my two cents anyway.

I'm just happy that Rian Johnson has a solid foundation to build on for episode 8. Since TFA got good reviews, hopefully he'll get the freedom to take risks and bring the story to another level.

Just saw it today. Liked it.

Boy, what a difference some real sets and 16 years of progress in CGI make (not to mention a director who's actually interested in getting a performance out of his actors).

Looked 95% less like a video game than the prequels. Even the lightsabers somehow felt more like they were really there on the set, though the sound effects (even the 'idle' sound) for them seemed a bit on the loud side.

Didn't like how it kept inspiring me to come up with lines for my clone wars era story, because I had no way to write them down in the theater, and my memory is deplorable. :p

Audience clapped for Han and Chewie's entrance.

How 'bout that sad version of the Leia/Han love theme that played when Leia hugged Rey?

I think we all know who Snoke really is...

Left the cinema half an hour ago. Don't think I've ever left a cinema more apathetic than I have today. Not angry, not annoyed, just... not interested. If anyone enjoyed it here, then congrats to you. At this point, I'm 0/3 for Abrams and big sci-fi franchise films, so I think I'm just gonna bow out of his future efforts.

Finally got around to watching it. I'm not sure whether or not I like it. It was enjoyable, but... I dunno. It looked great, sounded great, it was nostalgic as all get out. I just wish there was more to it. it was less of a new chapter to the story and more of a flashy, fun reminder to throw money at the franchise

ahh, fuck it, its the new star wars and it was fun. enjoyable

I thought Mission Impossible, but that's more action and I wouldn't call Cloverfield "big"...
