Are there any good Star Wars fanfics? Non-slash, completed, and non-NJO. Original trilogy and prequel trilogy are both fine. I'm on a Star Wars kick after reading Havoc Side and Discordant.

Any stories where Luke doesn't turn Dark and kill everybody? I haven't read blank101's trilogy yet, but I don't want to spend hours and hours reading a story with a depressing, downer ending.

It's hard to explain this without offering any sort of spoiler, but go read blank101's trilogy. You will not be disappointed; it's truly an amazing piece of work.

blank's trilogy is the best of the bunch.

Drive you Mild is a good fic from what I remember.

I'll admit that certain angst-y parts drag on more than necessary, but to me, it's the pinnacle of the fandom. I've yet to find any fanfic that tops anything blank101 has done -- in terms of characterization, plot, intrigue, and epicness. All the characters are developed masterfully.

And you're never ever going to find a better written Palpatine.

I assure you that you won't be disappointed with the ending.

It's a real shame, because on the whole there aren't many Star Wars fics that aren't ridiculously cheesy guilty pleasures. Every few months I'll go on a big Star Wars fanfiction binge (like just this weekend, after reading The Dangers of Foresight) and it leaves you feeling like you've just wasted a lot of time.

And then you have the Son of Suns Trilogy, which is one of the best fanfics I've read, period. Empire's Son is also top notch. Blank101 is a great at writing complex characters with complex development.

Drive You Mild is up there as one of my favorite fics too. It's probably one of my favorite romance fics. And hell, even though romance is the focus, the back story and events are so interesting.

If you want a cheesy, crappy guilty pleasure, there's always every single Vader!Redemption fic in existence with varying levels of cheesiness (all of them ARE cheesy though).

Though, if you're happy with guilty pleasures Alliance of Enemies (Leia and Vader make an alliance to take down Palpatine) is one I just reread recently (and have reread a few times before). Heart of Darkness (is another fun Leia/Vader fic. Was pretty fun in the day, but don't think it has aged well). Really, while I can point you in the direction of more loads of crap, there's no point if you haven't read the masterpieces above first. Even if you're uncomfortable with Dark!Luke as a concept (which I was too initially), you'll not regret it.

Please, rec them. I already have your anime post bookmarked (which was fantastic), would love one for Star Wars too.

Legacy of the Red Sun is okay, but keep in mind it's a Darth Marrs fic. It gets progressively worse and worse basically.

I don't really have anything to add beyond agreeing that blank101's fics are some of the best out there. This thread did remind me of something though, a bit of an update on the status of the sequel to Empire's Son. I was talking to blank101 back in October, and I asked about how the sequel was going. He replied:

Considering most of his other stories are about 35 chapters long on average I wouldn't be surprised if he started posting sometime in the next six months or so. Perhaps longer, because he also said that he was writing a bit of a more lighthearted story (I think it's supposed to be about Han and Luke going off to be smugglers together at the end of ANH).

I loathed it. I had another look today just to make sure... yep, still sucks. It's Darth Marrs.

The reason I was intrigued by Darth Marr's Superman/SW crossover is that Blank101's awesome "Son of Suns" trilogy has a title that sounds like it should be a Supes crossover, and so I really wanted to see what could be achieved. Only disappointment awaited.

blank's stuff is the best out there.

If you are up for a guilty pleasure, rec, DM's Blue Sun Down SW/Firefly crossover is more fun, albeit a curb stomp of the highest order.

A couple others of guilty pleasure quality:

    Unexpected Awakening by Rhiw
Shadows of the Future by stormqueen873

I ninth or twelfth or whatever blank101's stories. Just phenomenal. The Shadow of Vader is... all right as well if you can stomach the first ~200,000 words being a rehash of the Revenge of the Sith novelization.

Anyone have an old republic era stories that aren't shameless self-inserts or video game re-writes?

That one seems like the best of a bad bunch, but good god it's the biggest gary/mary stu Revan/Bastila wank fest I think I've ever read.

I forgot about this one, but you just reminded me MonkeyEpoxy. Revanchism is an Old Republic story about Bastila Shan fighting alongside Revan in the Mandalorian Wars. The story is largely focused on their relationship and the war in general, and it's definitely not half bad. I've only played bits and pieces of KotR (sacrilege I know) but from what I know the characters are all fairly well written.

It's still updating but unfortunately new chapters come fairly slowly.

That is a perfect summary of every cool-but-wasted idea the dude has ever come up with. I'm not even going to touch his Harry-as-a-Sith-Lord story despite the cool premise, that's how he gets you.
