Imo the high Republic stuff doesn't make a lot of sense where it is in the timeline, e.g 300 BBY, because iirc the Ruusan Reformations stripped Jedi of their titles and right to lead/raise armies around 1000 BBY. They should have set the new show/book/Eclipse Game around then, focusing on the tail end of the New Sith Wars, Lord Hoth and his army of light, and Lord Kaan and Darth Bane. Still, since they'd have probably screwed that up anyway, maybe it's for the best that they're setting HR in a more or less unexplored part of the timeline. It gives them an opportunity to show us some Rule of Two Sith shenanigans too, even if only in the background.

Yeah, people have been saying since the High Republic was announced that its core concept would have made much more sense if it was set somewhere between 900 BBY and 1000 BBY. It's supposed to be the Republic's big comeback after recovering from the horrors of the Sith Wars, where they finally get back to exploring new places, spreading the light of civilization and such. Why the creators thought it would take 700 years to get to that point in-universe is just baffling. If the wars were bad enough, I could see it being a few decades, but seven centuries?

Anyway, that timeframe would have also opened up more plotlines for dealing with the more mundane remnants of the Sith. Not the Sith Lords themselves (who are already thought extinct), but rather their non-Force-using political and military allies/servants who might still be holding out.

Would have been more interesting than they made the Nihil sound, anyway. It still makes me laugh thinking about the breathless interviews with the High Republic's creators patting themselves on the back for creating an enemy that stands for nothing, believes in nothing, and does things for no better reason than that they feel like it. They literally described their primary antagonist as a 2D cardboard cutout, and in the same breath congratulated themselves on having the "creativity" to make an enemy without such tired clichés as "understandable motivations" or "relatability".

Yeah, with Disney at the wheel it's just a crock of shit. To me, 90% of the new Star Wars films and TV shows are about as canon as Cursed Child is to HP.
