A month and two days left. So fucking hyped right now.

 

And somehow I couldn't care less, which is crazy considering how seriously I played WOL and HOTS. I'll forever feel like somehow blizzard shit the bed on SC2, partly when it comes to balance, but more when it comes to basic core unit design.

I have to agree with this, though I actually think it's more the slow pace of SC2's balance updates that were the issue. They also never tried any kind of major changes, everything was limited to small changes to that had little noticeable impact initially.

Double Post Edit: Same thing as Bill Door. I won't be buying this expansion, the only reason I would would be the campaign. Cheaper ways to do that.

 

Despite the hype after seeing that video, I really doubt I'm going to buy LOTV. Unless there are some serious gameplay improvements from HOTS I'll probably just watch the storyline on youtube.

 

Heh, I've never stopped watching every single Starcraft tournament that's happened since the game came out. Been to MLGs and Starcraft tournaments, competed, had a hell of a lot of fun.

Absolutely buying it. Been playing the game for over 17 years, now, hell if I'm gonna stop.

Haha, holy shit. I can't find the VoDs (though I was cast by NASL), but I'm actually mentioned on Liquipedia.

Tried to find the VoDs of me getting wrecked, but it's rather difficult to find 'em considering it was the NASL cast of an MLG event.


It was a bitch drawing a professional player in the first round, but god damn it was fun. Especially since ROOT's my favorite team, and I was a fan of Theognis.

 

Playing at MLG's was definitely incredibly fun. Most LAN tournaments are, and is probably what I miss most about playing Starcraft. Although once you start making deeper runs in tournaments finding time for food is an absolute bitch.

I only played the campaign for HoTS, and I'll probably do the same for this expansion. Too much time invested over the course of my life in Starcraft not to at least see the storyline through.

 

I think that's the only thing I missed out on - playing at a live tournament. I actually went up against a bunch of pros in online tournaments and on Ladder (my team even played a few pro teams like mYintensity and Axiom back in the day). It's weird to think about all this now, since I think it's been nearly two years since playing at all.

 

Lol, I pretty much suck. I rarely play multiplayer. Not because I don't enjoy it, but because I didn't have the time to invest in actually getting good. I enjoyed the campaign immensely, and had huge amounts of fun in the lower echelons of ladder.

(also, the arcade is amazing >_>)

 

I'm considering trying out SC2. Never played it, never even really played a game like it. Where would be a good place for a completely new player to start to learn the game? Are there educational youtubers who explain things at a basic enough level to help?

 

You start from the campaign, Daedros. The tutorials are actually very comprehensive + they're actually fun to play.

I personally find Archon mode is even more interesting, but it's probably too late. The SC2 playerbase has died off, and the entire scene is fading into obscurity.

 

I recommend finding a non-narrated playthrough of the single-player campaign of the original StarCraft and its expansion Brood War on YouTube before playing the StarCraft II campaign. One of the best things about StarCraft is the story. Find a digital copy of the original game manuals if you can, too, and read up on all the lore. You'll be missing out on some pretty great stuff if you just start with StarCraft II and don't know any of the backstory.

 

I used to watch tons of SC2 streaming and tournaments. Lately, not so much. SC2 used to be one of the big esports, and certainly one of the oldest. It's sad to see its scene slowly fade. Hopefully LotV will revitalize it.

I might even suggest playing SCI yourself. It's really old, and the graphics aren't great, but the game itself is awesome and it's worth it imo.

Maybe I'm a bit biased cuz I'm Korean, I admit.


But still, watching the videos won't feel the same as actually playing and experiencing the amazing game.

Damn, now I want to go play starcraft. Off I go!


EDIT: If you just want to watch the game scenario, and not the actual gameplay, this would be better.

 

This is bad timing, since patch 3.0 for HotS broke this quite a bit, but it will be fixed over the next few days/weeks (depending on how complicated the fixes turn out to be).

It's the original SC/BW story in the Starcraft II engine. Very well done, and very fun.
