Well, this is just the best news in a while. I loved SG1 and I have high hopes for this.

Stargate is coming back as a digital-only prequel series.

I don't care much for it.

Unless things have changed, the original movie directors are in charge and they were pretty intent on scrapping everything from SG1 and SGA to SGU.

I like the movie, don't get me wrong, but it was nothing compared to SG1.

I like the first 2 seasons of Atlantis but i dislike SGU and the Last couple of SG1, when the new guy took over for oneal.

Really? I thought Ben Browder and Claudia Black were they only redeeming parts of the final SG1 seasons. Everyone else was already phoning it in, and the writing was absolutely horrific. Seriously, fuck the Ori arc.

Yeah, have to agree with Khan. I loved the OG cast but they seriously were halfassing it.

Browder and Black were fantastic, especially as a Farscape fan.

Note: If you're looking for an underrated but absolutely fantastic sci-fi show, a little dated now but still awesome, check out Farscape. 4 seasons and a movie.

That show has, perhaps, the most compelling and well-written anti-villain in any TV show. Y'all know who I mean.

I am unaware of who you mean. Perhaps you should explain it over pizza and margarita shooters.

    Farscape is best sci-fi.

Back on topic: While I'm keen for more Stargate, this 10-minute online nonsense kind of feels like the creators are releasing an update to a fanfic that was abandoned years ago, you know.

As one of the fandoms foremost experts on such updates, this feels like that. Enough to keep people interested, but without any real substance.

I second the Farscape rec. I wouldn't even say it's dated -- hard to tell, given the relatively limited CGI. The costumes and aliens were always top-notch, especially given it was a non-premium TV series. Writing was great, too.

Wouldn't mind a community rewatch of Farscape. Maybe it'd even summon Big D from beyond the grave.

I actually liked Universe a lot. It had characters which felt real and not just the usual campy persiflages. Too bad the SG1 fanboys could never accept the show which probably killed it.

I see no real difference between SG1 and Atlantis but the Atlantis setting was imho more interesting than SG1's.

Universe was bad and you should feel bad. The dumb drama aspect of it killed the show before it even had a chance. All because they wanted to 'appeal to a new demographic' they alienated their core fan base and paid for it.

Seriously this. Stargate Universe in a nutshell is Sam and Dean Winchester in a spaceship.

There was more to the show than the dumb drama it used from Battlestar Galactica:)

Are you forgetting that classic mid-season cliffhanger episode of Universe where they drove a beat-up old Chevy Impala through the gate?

Universe was a great idea, poorly executed. They tried to right the ship (hur-hur) before the end, and even succeeded, but too little too late.

You don't promise people Stargate and give them Grey's Anatomy but in space.

In addition to the on screen mess, when many SG1 and SGA fans didn't like the new shows tone or storyline the shows creators called them all sorts of names and told them not to even bother watching because the show was attracting new viewers and didn't need the franchises old fans anymore. Even some of the cast joined in.

When those fans tuned out and the ratings dropped they suddenly changed their tune. "If you want to see a third SG1 movie, you need to watch SGU." "If you want a SGA movie, you need to watch SGU." "If you want Stargate to continue in any form, you need to watch SGU or you are killing the franchise!"

It turns out they needed the base Stargate fans more then they thought. lol
