I understood you just fine. I was being more sarcastic about the gigantic vastness of space and the application of spamming out sailboats to explore the depths of space.

Universe is big. Point is well noted.

How many planets actually do have Stargates on them? That number could very well be significantly lower. Because they can't just construct a new one on a suitable planet to dial to Destiny, can they?

Destiny is following in the path of another ship that is actually putting Stargate's on planets for Destiny to dial.

    From the Stargate wiki:
EDIT: Oh, I misread the question. I'ma leave this up anyways.

Planets aren't anything to do with stargates, their just a useful place to have one. It all has to do with co-oridnates in space. Best example of this is the intergalactic bridge in Atlantis.

And that's a low end estimate. The Andromeda galaxy is estimated to have around a Trillion stars. I've also seen a couple of things saying that there is a chance that our galaxy is actually a similar size.

Well, the second season started up (two episodes released so far). Nothing super crazy about the resolution to the standoff against the Lucian Alliance.

Rush's discovery of Destiny's master code is interesting, and it looks like we'll find out in this season what the true purpose of Destiny is. Also, I don't really understand why there was no hope for Riley's survival...but okay.

Overall, a decent enough start to the season.

Was it just me or did anyone else get Giaus Baltar/Number 6 vibe from Rush/ship?

Hopefully we get some good episodes this first half of the season

How is the quality compared to season 1? I kinda don't want to bother with this, if the characters still act just as retarded as they have been previously.

It's getting better, but still no where near SG-1 in the beginning (a.k.a. pre-Ori faggotry).

Nothing's really changed yet, but I'm still enjoying it every week. Haters gonna hate and all that, so if you didn't quite like season one, avoiding season two may be a good idea unless you're really bored one day.

I was bored today, and I guess it was ok. Not great, but ok.

I've been watching BSG recently, and I think I've experienced a shift in my perception of SGU. While SGU is okay, it seems one-dimensional in comparison to BSG. I've gone through two seasons of BSG in about 3-4 days, though, and I recognize that I could be currently biased because of this.

How long has it been since you watched the first two seasons of Stargate SG-1?

I think SGU, for the first season (kinda early to judge season two) is far higher in quality than SG-1's first season.

Of course SG-1 got a lot better as time went on and hit it's stride in the middle before RDA decided to start mailing his performances in.

I actually don't think the Ori storyline was as bad as some make it out to be, though it could have been done significantly better. I think the constant worry over renewal may have hurt them somewhat as they didn't know if they'd have enough time for a more fleshed out and better story.

As for the first two episodes of Season 2, they've been good. Not great but both have had some moments.

Looking very much forward to next week...

We get to see one of the seeder ships, awesome.

Also looking forward to learning more about the bridge of the ship.

The ratings so far, from what I understand, have been very poor. Part of the could very well be the switch to Tuesday night where it has more and better competition. That and some people had no clue it switched.

It's been too long I guess, but comparing the two's first season could be summed up thus:

SG-1: This could lead to some epic winnery. I can't wait for the next episode.

SG-U: What is this I don't even...Why did they make a Soap Opera based on an epic franchise and mash it with BSG? Sigh.

I honestly did think the Ori thing was bad, but it was too rushed and didn't really fit. Kinda like that kid who always sits alone at lunch and...waitaminute. :backpedal

I agree that the Ori didn't really fit into SG-1. I think it maybe could have been better if they'd ended SG-1 with 'Threads' (well, they needed 'Moebius' for SGA, but even the ending to that was still 'Threads') and started a new show, it could have been better.

The Ori could have been a significantly better enemy I think if the writers had fleshed them out more and not rushed things. The Goa'uld afterall are pretty easy to prove that they're not gods. Proving that an ascended being that is about as close to all powerful as we've ever seen is not a god? That's trickier.

They could have gone many different ways with the Ori and made an interesting story.

As for SGU, it's more character driven than previous SG shows, but that's fine by me. I'm hoping that over the next several episodes we learn more about Destiny and it's purpose, and that it will give the crew a real purpose other than getting home. From the spoilers I've heard this should happen, hopefully it's interesting.

I don't mind SGU being relationship driven. I mean, look at my fucking stories.

    But.. there is a limit.

Quite basically this could have been an entirely different setting, outside of Stargate, and nothing would have changed... except, for you know, the larger viewing audience from dumb cunts, like us who feel some obligation to at the very least stick with it until it gets 'better'.

    Too much teen drama.

Honestly. It doesn't need it, the characters are enough to hold it up without

    "OMG I'M PREGNANT"

"OMG UR MAH BEST FRIEND ELI"

    "OMG...FUCK YOU BITCH, FRIENDZONE FAIL."

So... episode 4 of season 2.

Nothing fucking happened. Eli's mom has HIV, Asian girls gf is not coping well, Miss Prissypants Chloe is now half alien and psycho-rapist from Prison Break is psycho. This show needs to be more about Rush, Destiny and the Ancients. I'm not watching a soap just because its set in space mmkay?

At least Greer was kickass in this episode. Even if he is crazy.

I just finished my SGU season 1 marathon yesterday. I like sci-fi very much, and thought I'd give this show a chance.
Some of the characters, like Rush, Eli and the Colonel are written well i think. They act human and each of them has their faults. That said, the overall script of the story isn't that good, and also felt a lot like a rewrite of SGA. There was a couple of times where i thought 'WTF? , No way do real humans talk like that, or respond like that.'
The whole, Lucian alliance thing is just as annoying. I haven't seen the end of the confrontation yet, as I haven't begun on season 2, but it really felt like epic fail, they could have removed them entirely from the plot and it would have been much better.
The Colonel, to start with, has no problem killing his friend, by venting the atmosphere in the room where he is held prisoner. Some few hours later, when they are boarded by an army of the Lucian alliance, he doesn't have the will to go through with venting the gateroom, because said friend now is there with them aswell. This results in the entire ship being captured and a few people getting killed.
It really feel like a badly written fanfiction, where the authors want the plot to move somewhere specific and therefore force the situation, and the characters to do something so stupid, that it just doesn't make any god damn sense at all.
It's really clever to not introduce all the civilians in the beginning as they can just keep adding more of them if they feel like it. Every other episode or so, some new civilian faces shows up that you haven't seen before. wtf? It wasn't like that amount of humans going through the stargate in the beginning where that large of a group, but new faces keep popping up, like that older chinese dude we first saw on the planet that spontaneously spawned right in their path along with it's sun.
I'm not really sure at this time, if I'll start watching season 2 as the first season mostly just felt like epic fail.

So I've avoided this thread while I devoured SG:A and SG:SG1, and now finally got to SGU. I'm halfway through episode one, and this whole thing already bugs me. What the fuck is up with the camera style here? Close ups, way too many quick cuts, it's shot like a fucking documentary made by Michael Bay.

    That's not a good thing.
