Why do you have Oblivion for the PS3 if you don't have one?

TEHAN'S WONDERFUL BROTIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL STEAM SALE SURVIVAL

On the front page of Steam, every day there'll be new deals. A dozen different ones today, ending in five hours, to be replaced by around the same amount of new deals. These you grab if you're at all interested in the game, because you probably won't get a better price.

There's also the pack deals - they're even cheaper on a per-game basis than the daily deals, I'm talking eighty, ninety percent off - but they're big, hefty bundles and chances are part or even most of the bundle you've already got or aren't interested in. I believe there's a way to split up the pack so you can regift what you already have or don't want, but I'm not familiar with the technique. These'll last through the entire sale (until July 10) so no need to rush into a purchase.

Then there's the blanket discounts - a lot of publishers put a blanket discount on most of their entire library of games. These are TRAPS. If you buy something discounted in such a way, it will be one of the daily deals at a higher discount, guaranteed. Take a note of everything you want, then wait until July 10 - if they haven't been discounted by then, snap them up. For instance - the entire Bethesda library on Steam has a blanket 25% discount, but today, Oblivion was one of the daily deals at a 66% discount.

Obviously, everyone who's already survived a Steam sale knows all this, but hopefully this'll save some of you greenhorns some money.

I just saw the complete Valve pack... £25. I have most of the games on there already, but I want to buy it just because it's >£100 reduced.

Or you could, you know, have no more than ten cents to your name. That always keeps me from spending way too much on games.

Taure posted this some time ago, but in light of Militis' post, it's fitting to repeat:

You've never been through a Steam sale, have you?

I missed the Back to the Future offer by accident. I got so carried away playing the demo [free episode one] that I missed the end of the sale by three minutes. Ah, well. No biggie. It'll be on sale some other day.

The more Steam sales I go through, the less effect they have on me. This time, I know what I want [Portal 2], and while I'll keep my eyes open for other goodies, I've got enough unfinished games from previous sales to keep me satiated.

Enjoy it, Trig. BC2 gave me well over 100 hours before I grew tired of it.

Today I bought the only Half Life main game I was missing for $2: Episode 2. Also bought the Heroes V pack on a whim and Just Cause 2 yesterday. Current expenditure for this sale sits at $12.

Hoping to keep the amount I spend to ~$30. But if Portal 2 goes on sale for half price or more...

I've never had the money to just throw away at games. The few I do have were hard earned.

I'm only interested in the single player campaign. Is there any reason for me to get the multiplayer BC2: Vietnam [awesome single-player mods, enhancements to BC2 campaign, etc?], or should I just stick with the main BC2 game?

Vietnam is just a multiplayer expansion.
It's got new maps.. and on those maps you use vietnam war era weapons and vehicles, as opposed to the modern stuff used in the base game.

So no, there's no reason to get it if you only want the single player.

I never finished the single player campaign. I was... bored. No other way of putting it. As for Vietnam, no, as Psychotic Cat said. Even if you were interested in multiplayer, I've heard the Aussie contingent for Vietnam is pretty weak recently (i.e. few servers).

I never even started the BC2 singleplayer campaign - why would you? The multiplayer is just too aweseome...

    ---------- Post automerged at 18:12 ---------- Previous post was at 16:00 ----------

Torchlight and Defense Grid for less than 3 euro each, both awesome games.

The Assassins creed collection's just 30 quid, if I weren't so broke I'd grab this in a snap. >.<

Dragon Age 2 for 30. Not my thing but I know a lot of DLPers enjoyed it.

Modern Warfare 2 is 20 euro.

Everything else is pretty 'meh' imo. Not a great day of sales. D:

Tropico 3 and the expansion, five bucks. Funny definition of 'meh' you got, Oz.
