Then you're fucked cuz most fanfics have some kind of pairing. You can only hope that in a given fic, the pairing is a mere interesting sidenote rather than a/the main focus of the story

There are some...but then it's usually some kind of wierd as heart wrentching/angst/horror stuff because that's the only way to keep a reader's interest.

I think I remember the good old days when slash were made by rogue/pariah authors sick of the normal post GoF H/Hr and H/G with R/Hr routines...ah how teh the times change...and the kicker is that they knocked out many of the good slash authors (or so I'm told) leaving behind the filth. I have actually yet to see an AU in canon story as artfully done as Mirror of Maybe.

Tobang. Your female friends SUCK...I mean not that way but...nvm... Or they could be letting you hang cause if they did that to me...*slap*...I'm serious. That's utter bull crap and so much for the fairer sex being 'more' mature. And you know what's the strangest thing. The first few times I read fem-slash, they were written by women and incidently quite good (since they know their own body) so for the longest time, I thought fem-slash was written by girls.... lmao

Hey, girls do often write it. I could never write slash, but femslash? Yeah, that I can do. It's the same reason that females tend to be better at drawing female nudes, ect. It's easier to write something if you know it, and it's much easier to get inside another female's head than to try and write from a male's perspective. This is also why many guys complain about how the majority of female authors characterize Harry.
Well... I also am slightly bi - just enough to make femslash real.
Any pairing can be demeaning or not demeaning - it all depends on how you write it.

We added more titles some time ago.

Slash is degrading to women b/c it's a guy fantasizing about two girls going at it? Shit most clubs I've been into since early 2000, that has become normal to see two girls + making out. When I was still going to clubs if there weren't girls making out there, the party was not good enough.

I fail to see how they rationlize a girl (or in some cases guys) writing two guys shit swapping each other. To make it worse, then always femanize one of them anyway, so why the hell not just make it a het couple with an anal sex fetish? If you're going to turn Harry into a whiny lil horomonal twat for Draco's jock, then you may as well remove Harry alltogether, or at least stick him with Hermione... at least then you get a chick with a dick, so he won't feel as queer =)

It makes me sick to see the extremes people go to in some fics. I have never read into slash because, frankly the mental image is disgusting.

writing slash is sadly a genetic disorder. I say we make happy little "SLash camps" for the slash writers. they can all get there own uniforms, and we can give them all the same tattoo too! We can even throw in a couple of aids infested monkeys with little lightning bolts scars and green eyes so they can act out there fantasies! then we mutilate there genitalia so they cant reproduce and pass several laws registering them as sex offenders! they will all die off eventually.....hmm i might have been a bit TOO humane.

There is some hope for a few of them - some writers may grow out of it, so offer a rehabilitation facility while you're at it, okay?

Straight is better, though I personally like slash as well... no mpreg though. All the new stuff though...ugh. I mean, come on, if people are going to write it, they at least should provide good backbone for the story. I could never write slash, and have not yet read femmeslash. Most stuff I read is recced to me by friends. The slash with backbone-so hard to find now, crap exists and must be dealt with accordingly. Don't hate the slash readers! Hate the writers! What really annoys me though is that all the slash stories are dissapearing, or the authors stop writing it. Does anyone know what is up with Mirror of Maybe?

Though, not exactly sure if asking here is the best thing... All you people against slash.

    The author died...

Ok, no, but she's like seriously awal. Haven't seen anything new from her for like...years seriously. Eh...as for how I know, hmm well, the story does practically stands alone in originality of concept and magical theory.

Slash isn't that bad by itself... Its just the fandom is infested by people just as idiotic as the pre-teen hary/Giny shippers.

Other than the fact that seeing Snape rub his greasy body all over a teens? Nothing...nothing at all.

Don't use the love/hate relationship, or the UST, I hate many guys, doesn't mean I want to fuck them. Hell, if you used that relationship, than any of your stories in which Harry hates Ron, he actually loves him. And if you really want me to go deeper, what about most of the stories that people like on this site? Everyone is so against Ginny, most of the stories have Harry hating Ginny. Wow...maybe he really loves her. I mean, if he hates her enough to kill her.

And, really, I just can't see Harry wanting to run his hands through Snape's hair. Or Malfoy's for that matter.

No see that slash is covered under the "written by idiots" genre previously mentioned.

But seriously, there is nothing wrong with a homosexually themed romance, as long as it doesn't take over the plot (i.e. porno scenes throughout the book). The same rule applies to het fiction.

Again, I agree with you on this count. As long as romance isn't central, a book can be any pairing and I will easily tolerate it..
Still non-fiction is easier to read... you actually walk away feeling more satified( that you've learned something, espcially things you can throw at people in debate ), whereas in fiction you just move onto another, and another.

I really don't give a fuck about slash as long as they aren't broadcasting it all over the story. I mean plot is what really matters right... unless the plot is about Harry using Snape's hair grease as a lube. *Punches self in face for even thinking that sentence.*

I just pray that fic doesn't truly exist.

which given that murphy's law is under full effect, means that it most likely does.
