So I use Yahoo Messenger and Yahoo groups. I only talk to about two people on the Messenger, mainly as they have Blackberry mobiles which allows them to use it on the move. I also have joined quite a few Yahoo Groups for fanfiction, like Jono's, Meghan's (until that story failed) and Barb's.

I thought nothing of this, until ten minutes ago when a total stranger propositioned me. This guy is, apparantly, not a troll as several people have complained about his harassment.

NB: My Yahoo name is Mumming Mum. Don't ask.

He then proceeded to try to irritate me by Buzzing me (like a nudge from MSN) and spamming me, until I blocked him.

This has made me take a hard look at where I join and where my Yahoo address is availble. I didn't realise you could talk to people without adding them on Yahoo Messenger. How fucking scary is that.

Really if this what the world is coming too then all of you famous, or is that infamous, fanfic writers out there might want to watch out, some random schmo might just start demanding you to write them faping material:banana:

 

Maybe it's just me, but that piece of information would make me more likely to think he's a troll.

 

The fact that he had bothered to bug multiple people over time made me think otherwise, but I suppose it could easily be taken both ways.

crawfordjeremy702000 is not just a troll. He's a successful troll.

He's been trolling fanfic authors for years using the same tactics every time. He even has a Live Journal community dedicated to him. It's full of logs from 2006 until now, though I believe he's been operating much longer than that.

When is a troll too successful? When this happens:

OMFG, I remember this dude. It was about a hundred years ago, when I actually left my IM on while I was working. I think he actually asked for an HP pairing but it was totally fucked up ... something like Hagrid/Dobby or something stupid like that.

(shrugs) I suppose it could work. I mean with House Elf magic and all. I just remember blocking him and getting on with my life. What a truly disturbed individual. His life must truly suck if that's all he does all day.

Wow, this guy is epic. I've been browsing a few pages of that community that Yak provided the address for, (Thanks btw) some of those conversations are awesome.

 

It's times like these that I'm happy I stopped using Yahoo.

 

This guy messaged me back in May wanting a NC-17 fic. I told him that I don't write fanfiction and that was it. No harrassment or anything for me.

 

Holy... You know, I thought I was the only one who got "asked" - I tried to be helpful - I had no idea this guy had been bugging other people:

But thankfully, we never did... I ignored him the next time he tried to contact me, and that was it. Mispellings, odd pairings, just an annoying person. That guy was a very odd one.
