This pretty much. What most of Hollywood fails to understand is that by highlighting a hero's gender, you actively contradict any intended gender equalizing message. Instead of "she's heroic and female," you get "she's heroic, despite being female."

I really don't know why I still go into female centric hero shows/comics expecting Black Widow types when most of the world is still stuck in the "let's talk about the empowerment of women" mindset instead of the "actually empower women" mindset.

The second time she's fighting conveniently misogynistic axe guy, we see the fight going not so well for her. The general (aka conveniently xenophobic guy) says she's going to lose. Her sister says "Why? Because she's a girl?" Uh, no, you idiot, because we just saw her getting her ass handed to her.

It didn't do humour as well as the Flash, it was way too on the nose with most of the feminist stuff, it had a ton of plot holes. I hope this shapes up soon, because it really looks interesting, but I'm not going to bet on it.

If we look at all the comic book pilots (Arrow, Flash, AoS, iZombie, Constantine, Gotham) this is by far the weakest. Shame, really, because the actress seems good.

I watched the first ep again. Not even glorious HD could salvage it. I ask myself, why did this even get a pilot?

Damn, is it really that bad? I have it downloaded but have kind of been dreading the watching of it. Just about all the commercials make it look pretty terrible, but I've still held onto some sort of hope that it could be good.

I didn't see any significant differences from what was leaked earlier this year, so check out the rest of this thread, especially Nemrut's review, for a pretty accurate summary of why this sucks.

I'll read after I watch. don't particularly want a detailed review to ruin any potential enjoyment before watching.

Fair enough. It's not too bad, certainly salvageable, and hopefully they'll tone down the annoying stuff in the next few episodes.

I saw the pilot and it's bad. Especially compared to other stuff on TV, I have no idea why anyone would waste time on this after watching the pilot. Melissa Benoist has the looks for the role, but she can't act it, imo. Too much bubbly young adult, not enough heroine.

The setup with the military was just lazy. Her sister just happens to be a secret govt agent. She can lift planes, but the gruff military dude tells her to fuck off because of course, she needs to "prove herself".

Fortunately it only takes 10 minutes when the wannabe alien supervillain shows up. And the way they tried to show how "alien" he was, with the stupid ridge on his head was pathetic, especially when they leave Supergirl looking 100% human.

The stupidest part was the the painfully cringey setup of the future love triangle with the two dudes. Man, leave me alone.

There are better things to watch.

The pilot was disappointed, couldn't watch it again, so, am waiting for the next two or so episodes in order to judge it fully. When I watched the first episode of Arrow for the first time, I stopped watching as well, until I was told to give it another shot.

Hopefully, they will hit their stride.

I must have paused that pilot like 5 times to either groan or complain to my family. It felt like something that would have been on TV a decade or more ago. I can forgive old shows this crap, because we hadn't come that far yet. In 2015 though, this is tired.

The pace was so rushed, it was almost absurd. None of the scenes had a chance to breathe, and everyone felt like a caricature. However, I do understand that sometimes pilots are complete garbage, so I will give it a few episodes to improve.

The big issue is that there is so much better TV out there, that shows just cannot afford to suck right out of the gate. It needs to improve immediately or it will get steamrolled. :/

The pilot got pretty good initial reception from critics. It's averaging about 75% on metacritic and 97% on rotten tomatoes.

Meanwhile, DLP's reception and its user ratings on those sites are really bad. It might just end up not being the internet's/DLP's type of show.

Holy crap, I just looked at RT. How on earth is it getting so many good critic reviews? It has a 97% critic score, but a 53% audience score. That is a ridiculous discrepancy.

I don't know what these critics are thinking. If you want to watch something campy, Power Rangers are much better because there it's intentional.

The critic reviews seem to be focusing on the feminist aspect and the it's not dark like most of the recent comicbook tv relases. Nevermind that unlike Kal-El, Kara actually lived in Krypton for most of her life and never really got over its destruction, or her violent tendencies.

I just watched it. I thought the pilot was fine. It wasn't great, but I'm not sure its flaws warrant the massive fan backlash. I'm willing to give it a few episodes.

Another thing I found weird was how Kal-El was sent to Earth to save him, but Kara was sent to Earth to protect him. Not to save her, and oh by the way take care of your baby cousin. Just a straight up "you'd die here but that's not relevant, take care of this baby now k".

Any comic book experts know why Kryptonians refuse to build spaceships in which adults can also fit in? Why do they insist on building ships where only infants or small children can sit?

Why not build it big enough that at least one parent can also go with them?

I think it was the Justice League animated show, where Supergirl's origin was that she was the last survivor of a Kryptonian space station where everyone died after the loss of Krypton meant no more supplies, or something like that?

Honestly prefer they would have done something along those lines, rather than saying 'yeah, I was there all along, in the background' which just sounds lame.

Edit: I think the ridiculous proliferation of Kryptonians who survived their planet's death clearly means that the 'only you can survive' thing was just a way for exhausted parents to dodge responsibility.
