Did Sam and Dean just leave all of the magical artifacts there? There is no reason not to take that kind of stuff with them. John certainly did.

Although they never bothered to pick up the angel swords that tended to fall around them.

 

Lol, looking at Odin's powers there. Invulnerability and immortality. Clearly true since he was shanked like a bitch.

Really though, I do wish they had made the fights between supernatural beings a lot better. I imagine they had technical and budget limits but if beings like angels, gods, monsters of legend duke it out, it always just looks like a few normal dudes in a fist/knife fight (because it is).

 

Sam was actually pretty awesome this episode, its been a while Sammy. (Calculating the tax on that car in seconds in his head, speaking the verse backwards and swinging Mjolnir like a boss)

 

The writing is getting very sloppy as well. Some of the dialogue/facial expressions when the mother was introduced was awkward as hell. (I can't remember the exact moment, but some time around that) It's only when Crowley's in the scene that there is some sort of "seriousness" to the scene.

Other things that go unanswered, does Sam seem OC to anyone? The issue with Sam taking a break needs to be resolved. Did he just suddenly think "oh dean's back. Here we go again with the new season." There is a complete lack of character depth, what is driving him, etc behind Sam. Dean, on the other hand, is still pretty deeply written with the purgatory thing and I can't wait to see what happened to Castiel. I hope it's not a let down. I presume it's something where Dean's actions ultimately caused Castiel's "death".

 

I think that Castiel is still in Purgatory - I think Dean and the other guy (what is his name?) made it, but Cas didn't get through the portal.

I'd agree that Sam is out of character, but it appears that he actually didn't have a personality during the last year.

 

Sam doesn't need a personality. Supernatural is the story of the relationship between Dean and Castiel.

 

It needs more male nudity, then.

 

So, finally watched the episode. It was actually enjoyable up until the point where they casually shanked a few gods again, which I have grow to loathe.

But yeah, better than last episode and the mom was kind of boss.

 

The angel (Alfie) was surprisingly delightful.
At first I was irritated by what seemed like some slapstick humor with the drive-through-window outfit, but I really liked him by his last scene. I don't know if it was the character or the actor, but I hope he returns. He seemed like he could be an interesting mixture of naivete and sophistication - a less grim early!Castiel.

 

How many angels are there even left? I mean, with most leviathans gone, killed by demons and whatnot, especially without Dick, the angels shouldn't really have much problem, right?

I mean, the show was pretty clear that angels really outclass demons unless it is a strong one like Crowley, who, by now, should be the one exception left. Castiel might have killed lots of the angels but what is left should be more than enough to protect the Prophet.

 

See, the problem is that you can't make more angels. A fuck ton of them have died, what with the civil war, Castiel's mass murder and the leviathans.

However many are left are probably pretty busy with other shit, not to mention they probably have a hard time finding him since he has most likely learned how to hide himself.

There are no words to express the fucks I did not give when Sam started reminiscing about his one-true-ladyfriend and his dog.

 

I don't even hate Sam anymore. I'm mostly indifferent. Maybe he'll develop a personality later on this season.

Did I miss seeing the creature that escaped Purgatory with Dean? Was he in the episode at all? WHAT is he?
(other than sexy/dangerous, that is)

 

Pretty sure he's a vamp, and no he wasn't in the episode. They have 23-24 episodes in a season, I wouldn't expect plot movement in all of them.

As for Sam. He has a personality and right now it wants nothing to do with hunting. He spent a year with someone and up and left her without a word. I'm guessing he's feeling guilty and wants to go back, but knows he can't.

I can live with the 2 minutes of dialogue that lets us know this. At least the whole episode wasn't filled with it.

It's well within Sam's right to retire from this and get on with his life, I actually kind of find it ridiculous that Dean doesn't give a shit.

Remember, Sam was a college guy who wanted a normal life, he joined up with Dean to learn about his father and to get revenge for Jessica. He's done all that. Why Dean expects him to continue until one of them is dead is beyond me.

Sam has stayed hunting all this time for Dean, and Dean doesn't give a shit that Sam wants out.

 

Actually, they have carefully avoided saying how Sam and the lady-veterinarian and the dog lost their idyllic relationship. Sam just said something like, "There was a girl for a while, then there wasn't." I guess she got the dog in the breakup.

 

There was a scene at the start of the season of Sam getting out of bed and leaving a woman and a dog there to go see Dean. The girl wakes up and stares as he leaves.

I assume it's the same girl. Of course, it might be another.

Pretty sure he left her to make sure Dean was okay, and now Sam is stuck hunting to take care of this prophet business and he doesn't like it.

 

Damnit, I'm five minutes late, and I miss something important.
I wonder if she's going to report him missing?
