Eh. This season is better than the last one, but after 5 it went downhill. I do like this whole Men of Letters angle though. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that was (beyond a few one time rituals) the first 'good magic' in the show, which opens up new avenues.

Does anyone know the relationship between the cage and Hell? Hell was made to contain the cage, and Castiel kept Crowley around to maintain hell to keep the cage sealed and the remaining archangel duo sealed up.
What if they gathered the 4
    rings of the horsemen
, placed them on a Leviathan, then stabbed it with the
bone of a righteously man soaked in the blood of the three fallen
? The leviathon would drag the 4 into purgatory, is it possible to drag the
    cage
    as well as the
    horsemen
    into the monster supermax.
WOuld the cage being dumped into the realm of monsters, drag demons in after it? I totally see the demons and monsters having a war in purgatory.
I wonder if Jesse as part demon could potentially become the king of hell if he had the power to do so?
So every monster has a Word of God, but that note from the scribe spoke of a compendium, so I bet there is a master copy of the Tablets. I wonder if it contain the secrets for a cure for the monsters?
What happened to first WOG tablet? THey are break incase of emergency for humanity, so I wonder if they were on more than simply creatures, could Hell, heaven and purgatory have their own tablets? One for magic, ghosts, tablets themself.
SAy the gates of hell are close and all demon are banished, does that include hell hounds? Also, how would that affect sam with the whole demon blood aspect or even jesse as he is the part demon? WOuld witches lose their power?

I had quit after the third episode or so of this season but caught up on all the episodes this last week and I have to say, it is not as bad as I feared it would be.

I still have trouble liking Dean after all the shit he pulled, especially after he decides to be BFFs with a vampire after all the people he killed for being a monster. Normally, I would look at this as character progression but Dean had been anti monster for so long, now it just seems a weakness in his integrity and character. He stops holding to his principles as long as it saves his life, that's kind of weak.

So, I was glad to see Sam give him some shit over this although I would have loved it if Sam had just ganked Benny, and told Dean such, just to see the reaction.

Though, I am not too mad this didn't happen, since Benny is kind of entertaining and it is always good to see a "good" monster around, that gives this show a much needed grey layer.

But the lighthearted episodes do a good job of making Dean likeable again, when he acts once again more boyish and immature, like in the LARP episode.

The Men of Letters subplot is actually one of the more interesting ones, I really hope we get to see more magic and more magical weapons and shit out of this. This soul fire casting which they seem to have practiced would come in handy and I dig that they have a stable base again, now that they have lost Bobby's home.

The angel subplot seems to be interesting as well, showing that angels seem to be more sophisticated golems than anything else, and I am curious as to where the brothers will lie on the angel tablet issue. I mean, outside of Castiel and maybe two others, they haven't seen many angels who would act on behalf of the humans all that much but shutting heaven down may have bigger side effects than that, so, not sure.

Is this the last season, by the way, or is another one in the works?

It's been picked up for another one. They're going to continue making more until they drive it into the ground and people stop watching, more or less.

What ever happened to those books that bobby had, as well as the campbell library? I guess they got destroyed in bobby house, but did he ever copy and send those books else where? back ups just in case the house is hit?
I hope the colt one day returns, I bet ruby knows who has it.
Will Sam search for other legacies to rebuild the MOL? find the descendants of the old members. Seeing as garth is helping other hunters, they could leak the information through him.

Sorry, I meant to say Meg.

I was just wondering, that spell that Crowley uses, some one wishes for something, he gets the soul, and he can grant nearly anything. Why has he not done that again, he must know a human willing to do a deal?

Well, caught up with this show.

Still finding it pretty watchable, perhaps even getting better after that whole Leviathan effort.

What's really been bugging me of late in this show, however, is how the bad guy of the week, or whatever, continues to completely underestimate Sam and Dean.

Take this week's episode for example. Zeus, a god, didn't even have a flicker of recognition for the two brothers that took down Lucifer, the Leviathan's, dealt with Death, and so on. It just seems at this point that they deserve, if not respect, then recognition that they're not to be fucked with or dismissed.

Eh, small thing, but I think it almost every week.

At least Crowley seems to see them as a legitimate threat.

The thing is the brothers are really messed up people so anyone who learns of them will just see a pair of really unstable people, not hunters who have toppled the powers of the supernatural world.
Most of the creatures are so old that they can not but see all humans as mud monkeys, its too hard for them to change, no matter the reputation. I bet allot of monsters think they simply had supernatural backing from demons and angels.
I was just thinking of another way they could strike against the forces of hell. They know that the
    rings of the 4 horsemen
are keys to the cage, and the cage is located underneath that
    destroyed nunnery
. They know a way to open a portal to
purgatory using one of the Purgatory native blood
    , or use the
    death of a Leviathan
to create one. I had a theory if they combined this knowledge, they could cause the
    cage to fall into purgatory
. So a super maximum jail cell, in a super maximum prison. Also, since Lucifer if the creator of demons, I wonder if moving the cage into new real estate, would it cause demons to be pulled in with him. Hell was built to hold the cage, so If it was removed, would it follow/fall?
    Imagine it,
the demons of hell forced to fight the souls of monsters, each side trying to consume the other
    .

There is a big hunt over the WOG tablets. I wonder why no one never before went after them. Possibly because tablets has knowledge over all the supernatural entities, so everyone would stop the hunters as no one would which one would be found so possibly a danger to all of them. How did the Big Mouths get their tablets on the first find?
We know there is a Demon, Leviathan and Angel tablet.
Other tablets are out there, so many possible subjects: Gods, Faeries, Spirits/Ghosts, Witches/Magic and Eve and her children, Death and the Reapers and anything else, possibly one for humanity.
The tablet contents may extend to beyond just creatures, there may be tablets on places not on Earth or on the different creations of god.
If the demon ritual has a plan to rid the world of demons, why did the Leviathan tablet only had a way to kill them one at a time?

    Nobody gone after them because:
    a) nobody knew they existed,
    b) you need prophet to read them and there is only one in the whole world at given moment.

There is a whole prophet bloodline, even if Kevin gets knocked off, there are others to take his place.
Angels knew of the tablets, so Lucifer most likely knew of them as well. That means the knowledge would have leaked to demons, and through them to humans who make deal with them and witches. Eve, due to her age and power over some angels, is likely to have known of them, so she may have told her children.
The Angel tablet would have knowledge of how to kill angels, so it is possible that Lucifer could yet be killed. Also, the cage it self may have a tablet dedicated to it. In that alternate future dean visited, it was said the angels abandoned earth. What if instead Lucifer used the Angel Tablet to make sure angels could no longer interfere with his actions on earth.
THe Men of letter need new people so why not recruit the Prophets, that way when a special bloodline is awakened it is linked to the special group.

    *sigh*

So, episode 18 of season 8...it started really promising, with the return of the girl, who really should be upgraded to a major character since outside of Castiel and Crowley, she really is the most interesting and most likable character. Even more, she is one of the few characters who are those aforementioned things for whom you can root for.
I mean, the concept was rather nice. Those kids seemed to be pretty good hunters and had some innovative ideas that Dean, Sam and other hunters should have been using a long time ago. The idea that one hunter trains three kids to become exceptional hunters is a sound one. Seeing that there is this bogus thing that the public and government shouldn't know about the supernatural,(how could the armies, police and science possibly help?) it stands to reason that there is a need for hunters, and just hoping for surviving members of monster attacks picking up hunting as revenge is probably less effective than training them from the age of what, 16-17 on forward? Sam and Dean started way younger and in a way, that was probably the right call. Sure, their lives sucked but, police, soldiers, firefighters and whatnot take similar risks for the good of the populous. So, really nothing new so far. Same backstory as every other hunter, ever. Their loved ones were killed and they want revenge and ensure that it doesn't happen to other people. Only, training was in groups and as a team, rather than solo fighters.

But then it really succumbed to the usual supernatural downfalls. As soon as Dean opposed Victor training those kids, and Sam supported the idea, it was pretty clear that Victor was evil and in cahoots with vampires. As we all know, in situations of morals and whatnot, Dean is always right and the show will bend backwards to ensure he is.

And you know, if Victor's lie had been simply framing new vampires for the deaths of their families, so they could get this revenge poison out of their systems against opponents who weren't all that dangerous, thus gaining experience at comparatively low risk, I would have been fine with that. It is manipulative, sure, but it would have been the good kind of lie. After killing the vamps who they thought had killed their families, they would have continued the fight to protect people and not tunnelvision hunting for revenge and they would have accumulated enough experience and training to prevail against stronger foes later.

But if that had been the case, Dean wouldn't have been right. So, Victor HAD to have been working with a vampire, HAD to have killed their families, HAD to turn innocent people into vampires so that the kids kill them...and really, that just sucked the fun out of the episode.

So, what exactly did the vampire get out of this, really? He got to feed on innocents and he wouldn't be killed? Okay, not that bad of a deal for a vamp but still seems awfully risky to operate with hunters, three of which would kill him on sight. Would have been smarter to run and operate somewhere else.

Also, was that character development or character inconsistency when Dean talked about hunting being more than just killing?

Yeah, the usual supernatural tropes bogged the episode down and I am bummed that this was probably the last time we will see the girl again (or if there is a new season, maybe she will have an appearance there).

Other than that, still a decent, kinda filler episode.

I love how a guy who only spent 5 minutes talking to Dean didn't need anymore time to realize what a self-righteous asshole he is.

Why not recruit her and the kids to be the new men of letters, or their partnering hunters?

I wonder apart from that sealed tablet, what else was stored in those crypts? Lucifer is sure to have all the cool stuff. That box which was anti-angel would be valuable in of it self. I am sure lucy kept all the best stuff he had to him self, and old yellow eyes had centuries to build up the collection.
I bet that is where Ruby got herself a demon killing knife. There could be other anti demon gear there, so useful as a measure against crowley.
I wonder if lucifer had other tablets in his hidden places? It would explain how he went through a bunch of gods, like a hot knife through butter, if he had a tablet on deities. Also, why he was so feared by the supernatural world.
those crypts were the equivalent of the "weapons of heaven" vault.

How many tablets do you think there are? Due to the scribe Metatron, linked to his own shape, Metatron's cube, I believe a maximum of 12 tablets, as 12 circles make the shape. Possibly as there are 7 prophets, there are only 7 tablets, I hope for the the 12. I have only guessed at seven topics for the tablets. What would happen when all have been gathered together?
    Demons-demons and hell
    leviathons-leviathons and purgatory
    Angels-angels and heaven
Deities-how to deal with the pantheons of the world and their creatures
    Fairies-avalon and their courts
    Reapers/ghosts-death, necromancy, ghosts
Eve's bloodline-all monster races, potential cures
    humans-psychics, magics, hunting

I believe there is a link between the Men of Letters and the Word of God, the names for one, the ability to cast spells using their souls, and their symbol the Aquarian star seems to fit with Metatron's cube. Wanna bet it was founded by Metatron, would explain the Winchester line being used for angel hosts.

I was just wondering, what if one of the WoG tablets is simply a map/atlas of all of creation, acting a guide to go to places beyond a mere human's capability? That would make it invaluable, a map of every route and back door between the worlds would grant great power.

Anyone else disappointed with this week's episode 19?

I was at least a little glad the plot was moving along but there are just way too many plot holes.

Hadn't Sam tried the 'torture crossroads demon' thing back when Dean was in hell? It didn't seem to work then, but now it seems to magically work. I hate when things are made convenient for the sake of the story. Demons far less important than that one have died protecting a secret. So was this just luck of the draw and they happend to pull out the sissy demon? Pretty convenient.

And now reapers can make deals with humans just like that? What? So now there is actually a market out there where people use reapers to take a trip to heaven/hell/purgatory? What, why? And now reapers can functionally do what Angels can too - bring a soul out of heaven. Well not even a reaper, apparently a goddamn person can do it in like ten mintutes! What. The. Fuck.

Lets get to getting Bobby out now. Well first of all, Bobby is hell? We just needed an innocent soul to bring up! Crowley cannot control where a soul goes if there is no contractual agreement, so why Bobby? When did the King of Hell get to decide such things? It sounds like he can just do this all the time an get away with it. Pretty filmsy. If they gave me at least a half decent reason, like maybe staying back as a ghost condemns one to hell, I'd be fine.

Then there's Sam trotting his way through Purgatory and Hell. Purgatory being a route to hell annoyed me. It just did. Its not terrible, but its so damn obvious the only reason that rule exists is to somehow get Benny back to Purgatory (probably for a rescue next season). And how in all wonders of the universe did Sam find Bobby in what amounted to be just about five minutes? Thats out of billions of souls! Apparently going into Hell and snatch a soul is fucking cakewalk. Not to mention, the portal in Purgatory was supposed to be temporary right? Oh, I guess thats still open too.

The premise of getting someone out of hell and into heaven should demand a freaking bloodbath, and a good chunk of a story arc. Instead, its done and they're back home, relaxing with a cold beers by the end of the day.

I still contend that Seasons 1-5 is the real story. 6-onwards is fanfiction in my head. Not terribly bad fanfiction mind you, but its definitely not the same. Its lows are a lot, lot lower. Its highs are okay compared to the Kripke Seasons. I miss characters like Gabriel.

As a sidenote, I do hope though that the writers bring Adam Milligan back from Lucifer's Cage somehow. He's been in there for so damn long now. Being stuck in there with both Lucifer and Michael for that long would definitely have done some permanent damage to him. I always thought it'd be cool seeing him turn into a Joker-type villain if he came back.
