Since the decline in mafia games, I figured that something new and different might be in place. This concept is under construction, and I am looking for feedback and tips on how to finetune it. Also, this will serve as a Sign-Up thread for those who are interested.

    Overview:
SURVIVOR: DLP is a variant of the more famous television show 'Survivor' (Synopsis on television show is played: "Survivor"). Although it is usually played on reality game show in which contestants are isolated in the wilderness and made to compete for cash, it can be, with some adaptations, played in real life, in an ORG (Online Reality Game), and even on a forum. It is played between 16 to 20 contestants, who are ordinary people marooned on an island or exotic location. The show uses a system of progressive elimination, allowing the contestants to vote off other players until only one final contestant remains and wins the title of “Sole Survivor”.

In this game, sixteen contestants, the castaways, are marooned at a special site called DLP Island and are then split into two Tribes or "Houses", named after those in Harry Potter: Gryffindor and Slytherin. Reflecting the fact that the two Houses are assigned separate camps at which the castaways must survive the elements and scavenge for food, both Gryffindor and Slytherin will be each given a communal, House QT which castaways can use to privately talk to only those in the same House.

In the first half of the game, castaways face off in Challenges as Houses, most importantly for Immunity, which prevents the winning House from having to go to the next Tribal Council. The losing House which does go to Tribal Council discuss the preceding events, with the host asking questions, and then must vote out one of their own players, eliminating him/her from the game.

In the second half of the game, the two Houses are merged into a single House or Tribe. This event is called the "Merge". Post-Merge, Challenges are played at an individual level for individual rewards and immunity. At subsequent Tribal Councils, those eliminated start to form the jury or Wizengamot, who sit in on all subsequent Tribal Councils but otherwise do not usually participate. When only three castaways remain, those castaways attend a final Tribal Council, where the Wizengamot (consisting of the final seven contestants to have been eliminated) is given the opportunity to ask the finalists some questions. After this, the Wizengamot members then vote to decide which of the remaining castaways should be declared "Sole Survivor".

    Day, Dusk, and Night Phases:
DAY: The game will begin during day. During day phases, players compete in Challenges (both pre and post Merge), which range from menial Plate Smashing and more creative Ficlet Writing, to Create A Buff (testing drawing and photoshopping skills), Identify the Picture, and Trivia. These Challenges are designed to test teamwork abilities and often may involve more than one skillset, prompting Houses to form strategy. During this time, everybody is allowed and encouraged to use the thread to communicate and discuss, and communal conversations via House QTs are also permitted. At the end of the Day, a victor of the Challenge will be determined, and the losing parties will proceed to attend Tribal Council.

DUSK: At Dusk, Tribal Council occurs. Only those attending Tribal Council will be allowed to post in the thread, and the attendees will be temporarily banned from contacting other castaways via QT. Non-attendees are still allowed to use QTs to communicate with each other. The host might take this opportunity to ask the attendees regarding camp life and any internal strife observed. Castaways in precarious situations may take this chance to reveal information or bargain with others to keep themselves in the game.

It should be noted that post-Merge, everybody (unless specified otherwise) must attend Tribal Council. However, the winner of an individual Challenge will possess Individual Immunity and thus will have all votes against them nullified. At the end of Dusk, attendees from Tribal Council must submit a vote (via their private, individual QTs, given to them for this purpose) to determine the castaway to be eliminated. Neither abstentions nor voting for oneself are permitted. Votes may be submitted in advance, if the player will not be online at Dusk's end, but it should be noted that votes cannot be rescinded. The castaway with the plurality vote will then be eliminated.

Ties may occur, resulting in a revote. Attendees must re-vote (except the two or more contestants in question that are tied for elimination) with the option to vote for the other person. If the revote is deadlocked, votes from previous Tribal Councils will be counted. Whoever had more votes would be eliminated. If the vote is still deadlocked, the feared Purple Rock Tiebreaker will be employed, in which all players (except those with Immunity) will draw a rock from a hessian bag. The one who draws the purple rock (a random event) will then be eliminated.

NIGHT: During the night phase, discussion in the thread is prohibited. Players may still use their communal House QTs to talk, however. Moreover, only during the Night are players allowed to talk secretly to other members of their Tribe on a 1-on-1 basis (via QT). This opportunity allows for collusion and scheming. Moreover, in order to adapt the reality game for the forum, the host has created a series of roles, in order to encourage certain modes of behaviour from players. The roles, based off archetypes from the show, will often have Actions which can be done in the Night. Please note that revealing one's role (directly or indirectly) is not permitted, and roles will not be revealed upon elimination.

Moreover, during the Night, all players will have to submit an "affectionate gesture" to another player by posting in their individual, private QTs: "SCHMOOZE WITH [Player Name]". Abstentions will not be allowed. You can only send an affectionate gesture to somebody in your House. This has particular relevant to the Black Widow and Stealth Bomber roles.

    ROLES:

Roles are based off the archetypes from the show (source: archetypes). Purposes of the roles are to prompt certain behaviours from the players, so that this game doesn't solely become a popularity contest. Castaways who abide by their role's mandate will be rewarded, usually with the opportunity for a Hidden Immunity Idol (see section below labelled 'Immunity' for more information).

SURVIVOR: DLP, unlike mafia, only has one winner: “The Sole Survivor”. For this reason, scheming and strategy are considered paramount. Indeed, your objective is to outlast long enough to make the endgame and having a Wizengamot which likes you and/or does not like the other finalists. You must to not only find a means to make the endgame, but also consider which seven players would be likely to award you as the Wizengamot and who would be a finalist whom the Wizengamot wouldn't reward. Roles will help you reach your goals, but please remember that the makeup of the Wizengamot DOES matter.

There are eight roles, one for both Gryffindor and Slytherin, constituting the sixteen castaways of this game.

    The Perceptive Leader (max: 2):
Role is similar to Fearless Leader archetype in the television show. As the Harry Potter or Tom Riddle archetype of your House, you command personal charisma to lead your fellow castaways towards a team victory. Other look to you instinctively and follow you through the path that you blaze. The power to command is indeed your greatest strength, and the one you will use to become Sole Survivor. Your commitment to your team is so great, in fact, that you strive to eliminate any rogue elements in the midst, such as Renegades, and thereby improve your enclave's chances to winning.
    Abilities
    - Can Identify a Renegade during the Night. When you correctly Identify a Renegade, you will be given a Hidden Immunity Idol.
    - Communication with fellow Housemates via communal, House QT [Not allowed when attending Tribal Council]
    - Private 1-on-1 communication with other Housemates via QT [Night-time only]

    The Puppetmaster (max: 2):
Role is similar to Puppetmaster archetype in the television show. Every game needs a master of manipulation, and that person is the Puppetmaster. Survivor is not only a physical game but also a social one; understanding people and the way they work is imperative to survival. Your status as an Albus Dumbledore or Gellert Grindelwald archetype cements your ability to pull the necessary strings to engineer the best possible solution for you and your team. Perceptive Leaders may run the House, but it is the Puppetmaster who runs the show. Keen awareness of others and their desires is your greatest strength.
    Abilities
    - Can attempt, during the Night, to guess the roles of all other members in your current Tribe. If your matches are correct, you will be given a Hidden Immunity Idol.
    - Communication with fellow Housemates via communal, House QT [Not allowed when attending Tribal Council]
    - Private 1-on-1 communication with other Housemates via QT [Night-time only]

    The Stealth Bomber (max: 2):
Role is similar to Stealth Bomber archetype in the television show. In Matthew 5:5, it states that “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth”. Stealth Bombers epitomise this adage. Their strategy is to lie low and avoid attention; “anybody, as long as it ain’t me” is a good principle for SURVIVOR: DLP. Echoing Neville Longbottom or Theodore Nott, Stealth Bombers wait in the shadows, disregarded as innocuous, until the time to step into the Limelight emerges. However, until then, the Stealth Bomber must evade the prying eyes of others because one never knows on whom the axe will drop next.
    Abilities
    - If you succeed in avoiding a single “affectionate gesture” for three consecutive Nights, you will be given a clue for a Hidden Immunity Idol.
    - Communication with fellow Housemates via communal, House QT [Not allowed when attending Tribal Council]
    - Private 1-on-1 communication with other Housemates via QT [Night-time only]

    The Nurturer (max: 2):
Role is similar to Provider archetype in the television show. By focusing on physical needs like food, water, and shelter, the Nurturer tries to instill the Survivor camp more warmth and comfort. Cognisant that people will not bite the hand that feeds them, Nurturers utilise a strategy of providing emotional support to those who are stranded miles from anyone they know and love. Much like Hermione Granger or Narcissa Malfoy. Showing some human kindness is a means of drafting allegiances, a fact of which Nurturers are very aware. Not very castaway on DLP Island needs to be callous.
    Abilities
    - Can choose, each Night, one player to provide with food. If that player is targeted by a Renegade, the player will not be sent to Exile Island, and you will be given a clue to a Hidden Immunity Idol
    - Communication with fellow Housemates via communal, House QT [Not allowed when attending Tribal Council]
    - Private 1-on-1 communication with other Housemates via QT [Night-time only]

    The Black Widow (max: 2):
Role is similar to Flirt archetype in the television show. You know that you are attractive and good-looking. Seduction is one way of outliving others, is it not? Attaching yourself to the most able individuals is a means of self-preservation, crafting a strong bond with the strongest as a Black Widow. Like Ginny Weasley or Bellatrix Lestrange, you are tenacious in your alluring stratagems to victory, and you will not shy away from attention, unlike Stealth Bombers, since attention is the hook and sinker to reeling in your latest shield.
    Abilities
    - For each “affectionate gesture” directed toward you, you receive five points. You will be given a clue to a Hidden Immunity Idol upon winning forty-five points.
    - Communication with fellow Housemates via communal, House QT [Not allowed when attending Tribal Council]
    - Private 1-on-1 communication with other Housemates via QT [Night-time only]

    The Comrade (max: 2):
Role is similar to Sidekick archetype in the television show. To every Perceptive Leader or Puppetmaster, there is a second-in-command behind him. Comrades may not pull the strings themselves, but they are damn-well instrumental to any scheme hatched by the leadership. Although some may call you a mere follower, you know that that is not the case. You are in fact joining another in their rise to power – without the negative consequences of Tall Poppy Syndrome. A Ron Weasley or Antonin Dolohov. All Number Ones have a Number Two, and your personal devotion and willingness to defer will serve you well.
    Abilities
    - You are allocated a random player at the beginning of the game. If that player survives until Day 5, you will be given a clue for a Hidden Immunity Idol.
    - Communication with fellow Housemates via communal, House QT [Not allowed when attending Tribal Council]
    - Private 1-on-1 communication with other Housemates via QT [Night-time only]

    The Renegade (max: 2):
Role is similar to Free Spirit archetype in the television show. Renegades recognise the importance of placing one’s needs over another’s. Loyalty has its time and place, but when push comes to shove, you are willing to flee from your leader in order to save your own skin. A true wrench in the works or loose cannon, the Renegade causes chaos where he/she goes, unable like Draco Malfoy to commit to an assigned task. Outlasting the schemes of others is what’s most important; those who invest in personal loyalty are foolish, and you know it. Every man for themselves.
    Abilities
    - Can select one player from your current Tribe during the Night and send them to Exile Island; the player will not be able to speak or participate in the subsequent Challenge. You can use this ability twice in the game, but one of the two times must, without fail, be used on either Day 2 or Day 3. This ability cannot be used if less than six people remain in the game.
    - Communication with fellow Housemates via communal, House QT [Not allowed when attending Tribal Council]
    - Private 1-on-1 communication with other Housemates via QT [Night-time only]

    The Judas (max: 2):
Role is similar to Traitor archetype in the television show. Betrayal is a powerful tool. Unlike Renegades, the Judas cultivates allegiances which hold emotional significance. Cooperating with able-minded individuals can attain distinct awards. However, the Judas reneges on his/her alliances when a better offer is presented. The aim is to win, not to make friends. People who trust you, a Severus Snape or Peter Pettigrew in your House, are imbecilic for placing you in their circle of allies. Traitors may be scorned, but they are the only who may truly outwit, outplay, and outlast all others.
    Abilities
    - Can declare, during the Night, up to two people as your Allies in your QT; this declaration must be substantiated with proof, either as a vote when applicable and a post (not from your individual QT) from the most recent Day or Night. At any point in the game where you betray any of your declared allies, you will receive a Hidden Immunity Idol. The betrayal must be substantiated by a vote, preferably one which led to your Ally’s demise. This ability cannot be used post-Merge: all declarations and betrayals must occur before the Tribal Merge.
    - Communication with fellow Housemates via communal, House QT [Not allowed when attending Tribal Council]
    - Private 1-on-1 communication with other Housemates via QT [Night-time only]

    IMMUNITY:

Other than winning at Challenges, players may also attain Immunity through obtaining Hidden Immunity Idols. Certain roles, upon satisfactorily completing preconditions and thereby exhibiting certain behaviours, will either obtain a Hidden Immunity Idol or a clue to a Hidden Immunity Idol. Clues will frequently take the form of riddles or puzzles; solving these will give its solver an Idol. There are three Idols to be obtained in SURVIVOR: DLP, and it's a "first-come-first-serve" basis.

Hidden Immunity Idols have the power to negate votes that the user would receive at Tribal Council. Idols can only be played at the end of Dusk, after the votes have been cast, but before the host reveals the results of the vote. An Hour Window will exist between these two events in order to give people a chance to use Hidden Immunity Idols. If a player chooses to use an Idol, by posting either in the thread or in their personal QT "Using HIDDEN IMMUNITY IDOL", all votes against the user will be negated and the castaway with the next most votes will be instead eliminated.

Players may attempt to fake or pretend having an Idol, but the Host will only confirm the veracity of such claims during the Hour Window. Furthermore, Idols cannot be used when less than six players remain.

Holders may also give their Idol to another player by posting "Giving HIDDEN IMMUNITY IDOL to [PLAYER NAME]" in their private QT. Idols can be given at any time, but be aware that Idols can only be used during the Hour Window.

    -------------

I'm looking for 16 patient people to give this game a trial run. As the trial, it will obviously have some flaws, but at the end, I'll be able to know how to improve it so that afterwards, we can have a more fun, proper game. If you guys have patience, free time, and are interested, please sign-up.

Days will probably last 12 or 24 hours (depending on the Challenge), Dusks will last 12 hours, and Nights will last 24 hours. Also, if we do choose to play this game, I may have to start it in February, since I have some work which may come up. Anybody interested?

    This looks pretty cool, actually.

I only ever played about... three? Mafia games but I enjoyed all of them. This looks like it's different enough to really feel new, and I like the idea of two teams facing off flat out.

But I'm not sure how busy I'm going to be this month or even next month when you say it might start, so while I'm interested...

I'm going to be tentative for now. An alternate if you will.

It does, indeed look extremely interesting - but like Ash, I won't be available both because DLP meetup and because that's also the week I'm moving back into my dorm.

Meanwhile, I'm hoping/praying/wishing (is there a difference between the three?) that it doesn't turn out like some game that some kid may have created with the initials of FNK.

Edit: From my avatar, Waver Velvet still stares balefully.

@Lungs: Then, I'll add you to the list as being able to play in February. And hey, I liked FNK, for the record. It was a novel idea.

Anybody else still interested? Due to the sometimes harsh and involving nature of this game (it is Survivor, after all), it is advised that you only join if you are prepared to put some effort into playing. i.e. don't vanish off the face of the planet.
