Another fanfiction great has left us with Susan's (Arsinoe de Blassenville's) passing. She was an outstanding talent and a lovely person, one with whom I exchanged several letters back when we were still writing.

A world less magical, a sad day for us all.

    R.I.P., Susan.

That sucks. I loved her 'The Best Revenge' series.

    Condolences to her family.

I liked The Golden Age when I last read it. Victory at Ostagar didn't really catch with me though. Just the same, RIP.

She'd been fighting the good fight against cancer for some time.

I was very sad when I learned she died. You could always expect quality work from her.

The Best Revenge was the first story I ever read that made me like Snape as a character. Very talented writer, she will be missed.

I don't think I've ever read any of her stories. I'll go remedy that now, starting with "The Best Revenge."

    Rest in peace.

Edit: Apparently I have read it after all, I just didn't remember.

    That's sad.
I still go reread "The Best Revenge" from time to time, when I need something heartwarming to read.

I literally finished a re-read of Victory at Ostagar only yesterday. She did good work.

    2016, man...

I guess as the fandom ages we'll start seeing a lot more of this.

Doesn't make it any more pleasant, by any stretch of the imagination.

I just wanted to register so I can say, "thank you".

I'm really stunned by these comments, and the reddit posts, and the notes I've gotten from Bioware folks.

Mom (AdB) and were very fortunate to have a several years of sharing a lot of geekdom together. We read and wrote fanfiction, traveled to gaming and science fiction conventions, and played a lot of video games together. How many people can talk about their Dragon Age or Skyrim game choices with their 60- year-old mother? When the darkness of watching her fight cancer starts to fade, those are happy memories I will cherish. Posts like these that I see pop up around the internet - they help, so much.

I will always be sad that she never got to realize her dream of retiring to write. She put up a damn good fight, though - she was diagnosed at stage 4 and fought for a year and a half.

She never had a lot of people around here who shared her interests, and suppose I never fully appreciated how much her work touched people on the internet, and what good friends she made writing it.

Tomorrow I'm giving away her cosplay costumes and swords to the geek community out here (don't worry, I have plenty of my own). I think she would be happy they will be enjoyed by like-minded people, and I think she would be pleased to know that she left a legacy of writing that makes people happy.

    Love,
    L

I still remember when I first stumbled across Victory at Ostagar. Couldn't stop reading once I'd started, I'd been on a bit of dry spell of good fics, and VaO was a breath of fresh air. Actually lead to my first and only C on a test in high school since I kind of neglected my schoolwork until I was caught up on it...

Arsinoe de Blassenville was one of the few authors I go back to every year or so for rereads, and the community is lessened by her loss. You have my deepest condolences.

Just saw this, a year too late.

Victory at Ostagar was the flagship DAO fanfic, and inspired both its admirers and detractors to write their own stories and make real their own visions of Origins.

    Sleep well, AdB.
