    Looks amazing, I think.

Although I have never seen the play, I desperately want to see this.

If you look hard at the trailer, you will see many known actors. (I spotted three actors from the Harry Potter movies alone.

Though I like Johnny Depp I've never been a fan of Tim Burton, I find his movies weird and I could never stand the people who go to them by my neck of the woods. Its always the same pretentious fucks who go to the movie and come out saying how out there it was, and how refreshing it was to see a good movie for once.

This seems the same weird shit as any other of his films, its Edward Scissorhands with a razor, Bellatrix Lestrange, and pies.

Yes and no. I'm a fan of the original musical, and it's strange enough that it probably fits with Tim Burton's view of the world. So a better summary might be:

"Snape sends Edward Scissorhands to prison in Australia. Snape rapes Edward Scissorhands's wife. Wife tries to kill self, fails, goes insane. Edward Scissorhands kills lots of people, including Snape. Oh, and Bellatrix bakes the dead people into meat pies for fun and profit."

The main thing that interests me in this movie is Alan Rickman as the antagonist. So far, I have enjoyed every movie that Alan Rickman has been the bad guy. I'd also like to see how good of an actress Bellatrix is when she has a larger role.

I've always got a kick outta Tim Burton, and dont mind Depp as an actor. Rickman did an awesome job of an antagonist in Die Hard.

I'd watch the movie, but probably not pay to go watch it.

An actual review of the movie, now that I went and saw it yesterday at a press screening:

It was about what I was expecting. It follows the musical very closely, even if they cut all of the Judge's musical numbers because Alan Rickman can't sing.

Besides Alan Rickman, I was impressed by the singing talent in the movie. Helena Bonham Carter sings very well, plays crazy about as well as you would expect, and is (in my opinion) second only to Angela Lansbury as the perfect Mrs. Lovett. Johnny Depp plays the character of Sweeney Todd well, and sings way better than I was expecting. Timothy Spall and Sacha Baron Cohen only have one brief song each, but they both sounded good.

That said, the best part of the movie wasn't on the screen. It was the presence of all of the 14 and 15 year old Johnny Depp fangirls, who are now scarred for life.

I can't wait to see this movie.

Johnny Depp as a sadistic fuck should be cool.

The first time I saw a trailer for this I thought, "Hey! There are three Death Eaters in this movie."

That said, while Alan Rickman was Hans Gruber first among a whole slew of other semi-recognizable roles, one few have seen that I remember being interesting was his role as the interrogator in Closet Land. It's kind of artsy in that the movie takes place in one room and has only two people in the whole thing, but considering his fame as Snape it's kind of ironic.

Closet Land is the story of a children's author played by Madeline Stowe, accused of putting dangerous anti-government anti-religion subversive messages into her stories. Alan Rickman's the interrogator, a.k.a. secret police type who questions her with some nefarious methods.

Not a great movie, but it's got moments. Probably been ten to fifteen years since I've seen it though, so don't blame me if it really sucks.

Not only does it have Snape, Bella, and Peter, but the boy playing Anthony Hope might be Tom Riddle in HBP.

Just checked IMDB, doesn't appear that he is in the movie. But IMDB could be wrong.

I haven't seen it yet, but I look forward to it.

I find it funny that Depp is known for playing Jack Sparrow when most of the roles he has played is either a detective hooked on opium, or an author that kills his wife then uses her decomposing body to grow corn of all things and in this new one an insane man out for revenge.

But none of those roles were in the third highest grossing film in history.

True! Which is what I found so funny, because he went back to a roll that is more his style and it shocked a lot of people.

I quite enjoyed the movie, first as a cinematic representation of a musical, and being out there for many of the actors. Depp is not a singer by any imagination, but as Bonham-Carter said somewhere, singing while acting is like multitasking, his acting makes up for singing. It annoyed me a bit that Depp's accent is the same as Jack Sparrow, but it makes sense when you realize that he had to been practicing these musically intense songs while filming At Worlds end.

Also, since i've seen and worked on many musicals, it was very musical theatre-ish, some examples, the song where he's walking fleet street singing to the men on the street for a shave and them not being there, or holding a pose with his arms up, much like an applause for a song in an actual theatre.

Even the first encounter with the judge, in the chair singing about pretty women is very like the stage production.

Unfortunately this movie will get ruined by the 14 year old depp fangirls expecting a deppathon or the 18 year old guys expecting a slasher flick, the advertising as definitely downplaying the musical aspect.

Well, I saw it, and I've got to say that it is the best film I've seen this year.

Darkmakr is totally correct about the advertising bringing in the wrong sort though.

Unfortunately... why? It is not going to effect anyone elses enjoyment of the movie. I posted this after only seeing the advertisement, and took it as a musical/comedy with adult themes, was I wrong? Of course, I had heard of the stage play beforehand.

I will most likely watch it with some friends, rather than the movie theatre. So, as long as the movie is good and enjoyable, I don't see how it can be ruined by fans expecting something else.

Well, musicals don't traditionally fill seats, Moulin Rouge and Chicago are recent exceptions. It's not marketed as a musical, so what will happen is that the guys expecting the slasher flick will say it's a gay musical to their friends and so on. And the fangirls will be A) not be able to get into the theatre because here it's rated 18A, which is roughly the same as R in the states, and B) it's Depp killing people with a knife. so it's not the swashbuckling of Sparrow or the crazyness of Willy Wonka.

I guess what i'm trying to say is that word of mouth will harm this movie, because it won't live up to expectations.

And i agree with PinkBoa, it is the best film i've seen all year. It's also one of Depp's best performances, one he will likely get an oscar nod for, and he's probably one of the hardest working actors in Hollywood at the moment.(/end swoon)

Still waiting for it to come out over here, especially since I saw the trailers in the cinema. I'm generally not a big fan of musicals, but I make exceptions here and there, and this one looks pretty good.

Just hope there aren't too many squealing fangirls in there when I go watch it. Also, Depp fits the psychotic role much better than any 'nice' ones he's done.

All year... eh? It's only been 4 days...

Onto the film itself, I actually saw an article about it in my newspaper. Something about Deep and a flashback scene and it being the hardest of his career to do, or something like that...
