As the title says, I'm looking for good-to-great Harry as a teacher stories. Any recommendations would be rad!

 

Nonjon's last two in his Where in the World is Harry Potter series come to mind.

Jeconais's Hope is another, albeit a bit much (in my opinion) with the Super!Harry. Harry/Gabrielle pairing.

Deadwoodpecker's Yellow Submarine isn't bad writing, though it's fairly emotional Harry/Ginny with a rape subtext.

It's dated now (and never was all that great at the time), but Lorddwar's first story (not the Harry/Tonks one), Harry Potter and the Return Home, has Harry return to Hogwarts as an instructor. It's readable in a pinch.

 

Harry's Future and it's sequel Professor Potter it's meh, but it's fucking long and complete.

There's two time travelling ones I know of (can't think of names, but they've been discussed on here a few times) One is where Harry and Ron were alcoholics, and Harry ends up timetravelling to the past (which is the normal era), ends up hitting on Aurora and Vectra. They staff think he's a horrible teacher, but when he actually faces a dangerous situation he proves his worth. Some of the normal cliche stuff happens (I think), capture Pettigrew as Scabbers, stop Luna being bullied, etc. I think it's called 'Firewhiskey and Owl Treats' but I couldn't find it on ffn. Mostly a humor piece.

Second one is a timetravel back to marauders era. I remember him living out of the Three Broomsticks and facing off with Hooch in quidditch, but not much more than that. If you searched through some of the semi-recent time travel story search threads you would find it probably, it's been mentioned several time over the years. I don't even remember if it's a teacher!Harry if I'm honest.

Not saying either of those stories are good, but if you wanted a story that was well known you'd just stick with the classics I'm sure.

 

Like Some Song You Can't Unlearn is pretty good. 22 years old Harry travels to an AU in 1996. The Potters are alive. Harry/Narcissa.

 

Unfortunately I think Firewhiskey and Owl Treats was pulled from the net. I distinctly remember it being on FFN back in the day, though I never got around to reading it.

 

It's amazing how much that can make up for, sometimes... and sometimes not.

In the latter case, you end up with what we call a 'complete piece of shit.'

 

I think you'll find that a fair bit of Teacher!Harry stories are going to involve Harry traveling back to the Marauder era. I swear, it's like half the population of ff.net writers are afraid of writing anything post-Hogwarts and on the same timeline.

There are some gems, most of which I can't remember right now, but I'd second Yellow Submarine. It's been a while since I last read it and it hasn't been updated in a long while, but I think it was good.

Also, if you haven't read it yet, I'd recommend Delenda Est. It's gotten mostly mixed review around here but you might enjoy it.

 

I think (but can't be at all sure) that Time to Spare has Harry being a teacher at some point, but if he is, it doesn't last long. And it'd be marauder era if he DOES teach at all.

 

DobbyElfLord's Altered Destinies qualifies too. The story has some problems but the awesome parts balance them out.

Hope by Jeconais If I recall correctly, this a Harry at Beauxbatons as instructor and a Harry/Gabrielle relationship... I could be completely wrong because I'm not reading through it to find out, lol.

Good luck. I'm sure you can find a good one if you take enough time though there can't be more than 5 or 10.

Not that good in my opinion but each to their own...

 

At one point that actually was a quite popular (read: cliché-ridden) plotline. Dumbledore sends Harry back to teach DADA while his parents are in year 6 or 7. Often his partner (Ginny, Draco, whoever) either accompanies him or follows him later.

I tried to read a few but they usually ended in prankwars.

 

Oh god, prankwars. The memories....the horror....

I think I'll be the third to recommend 'Hope,' its not amazing, but i keep it on my rooted nook for reading when bored.

 

This one is a Harry/Hermione one with the old 'I married to wrong friend' idea going. It's actually really well done though in my opinion. It also has a slightly bitchy Ginny, so it depends on how you feel about that sort of thing. Harry becomes a teacher around halfway through the story I think.
