Only reasons I'll end up watching is that's as close as I can get to a sci-fi show that's remotely watch-able.

Err, aren't most of the close-up and important shots in Jurassic Park Animatronics? Cus' that will ALWAYS look better then CGI. Still, I thought the dinos were okay, despite the Brachiosaurus in the beginning...

    As for the drama,
I hate the son so fucking bad, I mean; could you be a bigger douché? And to think that for a few seconds I actually thought they'd kill off that idiot bitch that ran. Also, "slashers"? Come on... they were like something out of a bad cartoon.

So far, I don't like any of the characters in this show. It kinda reminds me of that shitty movie, Skyline. Never had a cast I disliked as much as that movie, every single fucking person is just a major douché and I want them all to die. Kinda like the son in this series. Please kill him off so I can watch this.

Characterization is the biggest problem. I can't quite believe the family and their motives.
    • The Parents are just so awkward around each other.
    • The boy is a dick.
    • The older girl has the most character developement but that doesn't make her realistic either.
    • The young child only serves as single plot point to introduce drama. Unless they find a purpose for her existence in this show, what was the point?
    • The leader of the army is weird because he's the nice guy military leader. But he has a beard. Those two things don't match. I keep thinking he's a politician the way he talks.

I'm still a little upset at how they ruined the mystery of those symbols on the rock face at the end of the episode. That had so much potential.

I like the general premise of the story.
    A few bits
The son just made me want to scream. The dumbass is in a new unknown and untamed world that he knows nothing about, so what does he do, he throws a teen angst fit and walks off and out of the settlement into dinosaur infested land.

The older daughter said they never found the probe they sent back in time and that meant that the rift in time created a separate timeline. Then at the end Mira said the real mission of Terra Nova was to control the past to control the future.

But if it’s a separate timeline how could you control the future. Unless she meant the future of Terra Novas timeline, but wasn’t that the whole point.

Or if the Government lied and did find the probe but didn’t tell anyone. Or they hope to merge the timelines.

The Markings on the stone made me think go LIZARD PEOPLE at first, but Mira ruined that.

    Latest episode:

    Awful. Just awful.

The show has a fantastic premise, but it's relying far too heavily on your standard cliches and dumbed-down storytelling. Is it supposed to be a family show? That may explain it.

I can see the future, and predict a lot more black-armoured no-name soldiers being mauled by the dinosaurs, and no one else.

Edit: Also, what's the deal with half the vehicles they use out in the prehistoric, uncharted dinosaur-ridden jungle being less enclosed than a convertible? Cliched storytelling can be forgiven--stupid storytelling, not so much.

Ugh, I was waiting to see peoples reactions before I watched the second episode. Now I don't think I'll bother. Such a pity, as it had so much potential.

I watched the premiere and some of my hopes were dashed in the opening credits- the show runner is Brannon Braga, who took control of the Star Trek franchises other than Deep Space Nine. He's like Salieri to Ron Moore's Mozart, and given Moore's mixed efforts, that affords them both more credit than they deserve.

This is going to be a great concept with all the sharp edges removed.

It's alright that people get maimed, because the super-future-science medicine can save anyone who isn't already dead and make them whole by the next episode. No one is going to react with sheer terror to... say... a giant centipede crawling across their arm, because that would require an understanding of how people react, as opposed to 'characters'.

Welcome to Jurassic Park: the fanfiction. Don't trip over the technobabble; it won't matter anyway.

EDIT: Anyone catch the Firefly 'working hard' music when Dad was cutting weeds? I wonder if someone now owes some money to Greg Edmonson (Firefly's composer)

I was wondering that. If they have all that tech, they have constant controllable access to send people and equipment back with them, Why the hell do the jeeps not have frickin forcefields.

Even a hard fiberglass shell. Honda Civics have more protection than those things.

The Biggest problems with the show:
    • The mother, has only one emotion. Smile charmingly.
    • The father became a bit of a douche pointing out that he cock blocked the scientist.
    • The children have no conceivable purpose, other than to make for an interesting premise early on. Now they are dead weight.
    • The commander, his acting is completely wrong for this story. Plus he is always leaning against stuff in action poses even though he does jack shit.
    • Sky is Hot, and the only problem there is she is fauning over the dipshit son.
    • NOT ENOUGH DINOSAURS. TOO MANY HUMANS MOVING AROUND.
    • Not enough struggling! Things are too easy for the humans.

I'd really prefer a Lost-type survival against the dinosaurs with limited supplies instead of a spa with everything you could want readily available.

Concerning the latest episode why don't they have a large underground shelter or something for exactly those kinds of situations so they wouldn't have to rely on flimsy air vent coverings.

    Bah.

There was so much hype for this show, and so much money spent on it, and after watching the first two hours (haven't bothered with the third yet) I'm just really disappointed. The best part of the whole thing was ironically the cliched grimdark future, because the Dinosaur camp was not only cliched but nonsensical and ridiculous.

It's one thing if they're afraid to kill off major characters for doing stupid things. It's another if they won't even kill off the dumb black girl who runs pathetically into the forest full of hungry predators in the middle of the night. But dinosaurs that are barely the size of grizzlies are eating entire clips from automatic rifles at point blank range, and not even bleeding. I'm not an expert on dinosaur biology, but I'm pretty sure creatures in the 10 foot size range built of flesh and blood don't react to machine guns being emptied into them by dancing around a little bit and backing up a few feet. Are all the shots supposed to be missing? Are the dinosaurs supposed to have really thick hide? If machine guns are so ineffective at fighting off even normal sized dinos, why do people carry them around in the first place?

That's to say nothing of the "sonic" weapons (which don't seem to have done much actual damage either), the supposed extreme value of "meteoric iron" to a high tech future civilization with more plastic products flying around than you can shake a stick at, or the fence surrounding the compound with holes in it big enough that person sized dinosaurs could just wander through (and possibly flimsy enough that other much larger dinosaurs could just knock it down by accident).

They've fallen into a classic trap: Astronauts vs. Dinosaurs! It sounds great on paper, but when you realize Astronauts have lasers and spaceships suddenly the picture becomes foggy.

Yeah, it'd be much more interesting if they lost all their tech on the journey and had to use scientific knowledge plus the resources available to build their civilisation. AS it is it makes no sense. Dinosaurs are big, sure, but they're still just animals. A bullet will kill one almost as easily as it would a human. Especially a bullet from a futuristic gun.

Spielberg can't seem to get past his patented parent-child relationship themes. From all of his success as a producer, it seems like he really wants to stick with what he knows. What I don't think he gets is the change in television content over the last decade. No one cares about the stereotypical characters anymore. If this is a show about survival, kill some people off. And don't make it easy.

Get out of the eighties, Spielberg, and your projects for older demographics will stop going bust.

Well, no use wasting bandwidth on this stuff anymore. An amnesia pathogen, seriously? A pathogen, in an alien environment, tailored specifically to affect the memory centers of the brain. What a freakin' coincidence.

Also, I bloody hate those bloody rovers. No doors in a hostile, forested environment. Seriously?

With a plethora of other problems, and frankly nothing that really intrigues, this show is a solid meh.

Whoever put the tag on this thread, it is entirely accurate.

Fuck the plot and all that shit, I'm in it for the dinosaurs. I mean, seriously, when are you going to see dinosaurs on mainstream TV channels ever again?

Honestly I found this episode hilarious. I loved the parts when we got to see Taylor go Rambo throughout the jungle. Otherwise, yeah fairly poor overall. The son still pisses me off and I can only see that getting worse if I bother watching anymore.

    Ahhh this is bullshit.

I could have watched a 'contagion' episode in any show. House, for example.

Writers, why you throw people back into dinosaur-time if the best you got is something from an episode of ER????

Still, yes, I will keep watching for the dinosaurs.

Taylor and Lt. Washington deserve to have the most screentime. The Shannon family is too fucking annoying.
