Do you need to have seen all the previous superhero movies in order to go into The Avengers?

Heard bad things about Thor and never actually saw it.

The thing about Thor was that it made Asgard so much more interesting than Earth. I thought that the 'arrogant god exiled to live as a human to learn humility' angle could have been better done. Compared to being a god, being human is hard. You go from super human strength, having a badass war hammer, living it up in Space Valhalla, to being...human.

Thor could have done a better job of expanding that idea of yeah, humans are weak, and we have no powers inherently. But humans have to try, humans have to fight, because hey, what are we gonna do, lay down and die?

Instead it played it off as more comedy and quasi-love story than anything else. It was Natalie Portman's poontang that made Thor a better god. And Natalie Portman's poontang just might make you a better person, but I demand more from my entertainment.

    Thoughts?

Pretty much sums it up. It's fine for wasting an hour and a half but not much more.

And w1lliam, that post was made after 24 hours squeeing over it. Definitely my favourite movie ever.

Yeah...I really don't understand why this would be released earlier everywhere except America, but whatever.

You obviously missed Lutris' post. If you live in Japan you have a serious right to complain, otherwise not.

America always gets things first anyway. How do you like it now? It sucks, doesn't it.

It's not a matter of fairness, I just don't see the marketing decision behind it.

Thou shalt not take the name of Joss in vain. Douche.

On topic... I was kinda expecting and hoping for a darker movie. It was more of a funny action movie. A bit like what the Transformers shot at and missed horribly.
    8/10.

Motherfucking God that movie was awesome.

Ed Norton can go fuck himself. He's an awesome actor but Ruffalo owned the Hulk in The Avengers and in turn, The Hulk owned everyone else. And I lol'd like fuck at his moments with Thor and Loki.

Cap was bland and shit as usual. Stark was legen-fucking-dary as usual.

My only gripe was that i wanted to see more of Thor. I actually really liked that movie.

    What Xantam said.

And yes, it does suck. America, like, should have, like, gotten it, like, first.

I was actually wondering why they made that marketing decision myself. Only reason I could really think of was that they released in it Australia/NZ on ANZAC day (public holiday) for big opening day sales, but that doesn't really explain all the other countries that got it earlier.

Eh, whatever. I'm not complaining - I think we can all agree that at least we're not Lutris. I mean, August? Seriously?

Same offer applies but there are more zipperheads in Dublin than Galway so you might be more at home there. D:

I've seen it twice so far, once in 3D and the other in 2D, and I have to say that the movie is made of pure awesome, and no you don't need to have watched the other movies since before this I had only see Iron Man 1 and 2. Overall movie was awesome and I loved everything about it, and the way I see it, the reason why places like Australia and Ireland got the movie first is because of the fact that we're all telling people who live in America how awesome it is and that's only going to drive up sales :D.

The Avengers has earned 178.4 million dollars before even opening in the U.S

I am unbelievably happen. This means a lot more Avengers/Marvel movies are almost certain. With the popularity of Batman and the records this movie is breaking I figure a lot of people at Hollywood are looking closely at superhero movies. Justice League movie anyone?

Also, this is probably pretty big for Joss Whedon. I hope whoever cancelled Firefly feels very bad right now.

Is the 3D version actually worth it? I've already bought my ticket for an IMAX 3D showing, so I can't change anything now, but it would be good to know if the 3D is tastefully done.

The 3D is good. Worth watching in IMAX.

Watch out for the confrontation between Loki and Hulk. That was :awesome

I'm going to watch it again on Tuesday.

It didn't bother me at all, which is what I think you're looking for. I don't think it added anything, but I don't think it detracted from the experience either.

When I go to see it again though, I'll probably see it in 2D.

Also, the Infidel you're sig is... kind of a spoiler? Don't read ahead here if you haven't seen the movie yet. I don't know, it's hardly going to ruin the movie for someone but the Hulk's secret method is something you're left wondering about through the entire movie, and already knowing it kinda removes the "Oh shit!" feeling when he says it.

Am I being pedantic here or is it right to consider that a spoiler?

Yes and no. Anyone with any knowledge of the Marvel universe will tell you that The Incredible Hulk is the most broken superhero to ever exist, because if you made him angry enough he would snap Superman like a fucking twig. I mean, hell, he ripped Wolverine in half and threw Wolverine's legs like three miles away. This is a man with an adamantium skeleton, which is supposed to be one of the strongest metals in existence. Wolverine only survived because of his ridiculous healing factor (as evidenced by a panel in an X-Men comic where his foot is hit by acid and burnt all the way down to the bone, only to be fully regrown in the next panel), and his sense of smell allowed him to find his legs and re-align everything.

On the other hand, if you walked in off the street without any knowledge of the Marvel universe, then yeah, it's a spoiler.

It reveals that Bruce Banner is the Hulk, and that the Hulk is angry.

Not really a spoiler. More like a teaser line.

It really wasn't a spoiler until you made it one.
