The Showtime Original Series The Borgias is the sordid saga of one of the most remarkable and legendary families in history. Set in 15th century Italy at the height of the Renaissance, The Borgias chronicles the corrupt rise of patriarch Rodrigo Borgia (Academy Award® winner Jeremy Irons) to the papacy, where he proceeds to commit every sin in the book to amass and retain power, influence and enormous wealth for himself and his family. The unbounded audacity of this original crime family went on to inspire Machiavelli's The Prince and Mario Puzo's The Godfather. Don't miss a minute of the lavish, sexy, scandalous drama from the creative mind of Academy Award® winner Neil Jordan.

I'm liking this show so far. Especially Rodrigo's children; Cesare and Lucrezia are particularly interesting. Looking up the history of the family, this show can only get better.

    Any one else watching this?

Saw the title of this on the TV Guide applet today on my TV, and my interest was gotten, lol. I know it won't be any Assassin's Creed stuff, but still I want to check it out.

Yeah, definitely going to check this out. Mostly because I love the time frame in fiction (Historical Fiction all the way to full-blown SF and Fantasy), but also because I love these guys in history.

Also, there seems to be a big interest in the historical fiction/fantasy genre this season- The Borgias to start things off, then Camelot, and A Game of Thrones. I'm loving it.

Camelot looks like a piece of shit. I got the feeling that they trying to use a shitty sketch of the Game of Thrones plot while adhering to the feel of Dragon Age (they stole This is War, the credits song), and that it's going to crash horribly. Plus it just felt shitty in the trailer.

I might check this out, provided I can stop my twitchy right index finger while I watch, which kept jamming where the 'send Assassin recruits' button would be when I was watching the trailer.

About Camelot. Sure, I agree. But I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt because Eva Green is starring in it as Morgan, at least for the pilot. I know that it's undoubtedly going to shit- it's getting the fucking Starz treatment, and if that's not a recipe for lol-blood-lol-sex-and-graphic-nudity-but-lol-no-real-plot then I don't know what isn't. As much as I enjoy their Spartacus program, it's a guilty pleasure comprised entirely of gore and tits.

But yes. I'm going to watch the pilot episode of The Borgias now, and I'll undoubtedly end up pressing the "T" key on my keyboard way too many times.

Will edit post with review later.

EDIT: Watched the entire 2 hour pilot episode. It was glorious. GLOOORIOUS. It hits all the great DLP expectations- political intrigue, power plays, lies, deceit, graphic incest (with minors! :awesome), assassinations, poisonings, the works. It's great. I'll wholeheartedly recommend this show.

I just watched this last night, and I thought it was quite good. Parts were overly dramatic, but it is TV. I'll definitely be watching the subsequent episodes.

Parts of it made me crack up, though. "Whip me, my lord. Harder! Harder, my lord!"

    This show...

First the Jew hatred. Then the muddy!blackface, and then the poor Turkish muslim dude, and then the blaming the Moor.

    Amazing.

Also: incest like woah. If Cesare and Lucrezia don't fuck before this show is over, its a failure. An utter failure.

The latest episode was pretty sad, I have to admit. Also LOL at Calz' concern for the Moor.

I find myself very unhappy that I have to wait another week for the next episode. I suppose that's a testament to it's quality. Who knows, though, they might forgo Cesare/Lucrezia OTP and ruin this whole show. :3

I repeat: this episode was goddamn SAD.

Watched it. Loved it, but that is what you expect from showtime after you see Dexter and Californication.

Just watched the pilot and it's awesome. Loved it. Cesare, Micholotto and Lucrezia are the clear favorites. I still expect to see Ezio at anytime though >_>

I stopped watching after episode three or four, despite the fact that I really enjoyed this. Are you guys still following this? Is it still good?

The season ended a while back, but I watched the entire thing. They're making a second season, which pleases me. I thought it was an okay show. Not the greatest, but it was entertaining. It was utterly eclipsed by Game of Thrones, though, and there was not enough incest and murder. I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it to anyone, but nor would I say that it's not worth watching.

I'm a fan of historical TV, so that prolly increases my opinion of it a few notches, just to warn you.

I started this and I thought it seemed a really really good show but there was something that put me off. I guess it either didn't excite me or I didn't care what happened to the characters? Though I'm not sure exactly what went wrong.

Second season has started and is epic.

The look on the king of Frances face when he saw all of the ceramic cannons was priceless

Anyone still following it? I do and i have to say I really enjoy it. The portrayal of pope Alexander is absolutely awesome, and the rest of the family doesn´t stand much behind it.

Have started watching the series again and am now in the middle of season 2. Really like the show, especially Lucrezia and the way her character grows stronger. Cesare is interesting as well, and the way he starts going off the deep end. Naturally, the Pope is quite awesome, although, there is one thing I didn't understand.

Sometime in the first season they decided to skip all that secret mistress thing and she is very openly stepping into that role, even taking administrative duties. What changed? I mean, that was a firing offence, and after that one cardinal got run out, suddenly he doesn't care any more? I get that he is kinda secure in his position now but still, why be so blatant about breaking the rules?
