Ah, I remember this site. The first time I ever went there, I spent hours browsing. It's the best place to go to cure boredom.

TV Tropes is always a good way to grind away all of your free time.

Agreed with everyone else that TvTropes will consome hours of your free time if you let it. The articles Mid linked also provided fond (and not-so-fond) memories of my early gaming days.

 

Err... Well duh. If you are fighting a giant, or a troll, why do you expect to be able to out damage it? Even at your highest level? If you try to escape a cheetah, why would you wonder about it catching you? If you're fighting say, an inter-dimensional SuperUltraMega Mage of doom, no duh he is going to have more magic than you.

 

Those rules are referring to every enemy except the weakest one not just the one you would expect to automatically be better than you.

Oh don't get me started on that fucking piece of shit goddamned...

... yeah. Original xbox it was BAD. I had the receiver rookie nearly maxed out, super trained QB and Center. SNAP! Fumble... wtf? Recover, fumble, fumble, fumble. 80 yd touchdown by the cpu.

I kick off, the ball goes THROUGH my guys like 4 times. I throw a 15 yrd pass to a maxed out guy, all best equipment, he misses. I tackle a guy clashed out, he drags me instead of the bone snapping, I tackle the cpu with 2 dudes, he drags me 30 yards. I can't do anything but run the ball with the QB if I want to get more then 5 yards. And even then, my front line parts like the fucking Red Sea and I'm getting sacked every other play.

I got through the first season/rank whatever it was unbeaten, the end of the second tier the cpu cheated so bad I couldn't do shit after the first few games. It had unlimited turbo, unlimited clash, my tacklers would go right through it, insane. Awesome graphics, I loved the gameplay, I've never lost on the multiplayer games, nor single games with the cpu no matter what.

Get to the second tier though, and the computer is a cheating fucking bastard.

 

New York NIGHTMARE! Hell ya. Third tier.

OK - I eventually beat them, finally won, yada, yada - but it took 15-16 tries. And one of those last tries was when I finally got ahead of them. FINALLY. GOT. AHEAD. OF THEM. With seconds left, I threw a pass to a WIDE OPEN RECEIVER. WIDE. OPEN. RECEIVER. I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD HE WAS WIDE OPEN.

And I don't know if it's possible or if that fucker was turned sideways and hiding behind my dude but when I did replay it LOOKED LIKE THE FUCKER SPAWNED IN MIDAIR. A Nightmare player fucking spawned! In my football game! He was one place and then he was catching my fucking pass to my wide open receiver. He ran it back and won the game.

I was shellshocked. I always play games on the hardest level imaginable from the get-go (unless it's an actual strategy game like Civ) but nothing save maybe ninja gaiden has ever made me want to throw my controller into a wall like Blitz has.
