I also had this conversation with the author after going through the fic and he does admit this but, your right. It doesn't at the beginning but as the story moved along, the progress Harry makes is actually pretty good.

You know, living in an underground coughcitycough and only relying on your senses for a couple of decades does changes one person.

It's a good read. But the vampire orcs really killed me like i said before.
