I wasn't willing to go see this in theatres but now that HBO's running it over and over I've gotten a chance to see it a few times. I have to say - :awesome. Reworking the film from the original danger to humanity [Nuclear Apocalypse in the 50's] to global warming is oh-so-fitting. I think Harry Bates would think it a fitting tribute.

Unlike [apparently] a lot of people I like Keanu Reeves in general and he dominated this movie. You never once think he's anything but an alien - all the movements/dialogue/looks contribute well to it. The special effects were nutbusting - especially:

The metal mosquitos of doom and when he has to walk through the storm of them. Almost makes me wish I had gone and seen it in IMAX

The only part I really didn't like about this movie was the little kid. I found myself wanting to bitchslap the living shit out of him at multiple points - and I don't think there's any point to writing a kid character that's intentionally annoying. It gets a 4/5 out of me, one less because the kid has so much dialogue and contributes virtually nothing.

I agree, I know a lot of people panned it but I loved the movie except for that damned kid, I kept hoping he'd got shot or one of the helicopters would crash on him but alas no luck.
