Summer equivalent to Maeve? In terms of power, maybe; but I doubt the Summer Lady has been living in Hogwarts disguised as a phoenix all this time.

I've never read a fic with Harry as a teenage father that handled the child business well... naturally I have certain reservations about this. Though I suppose she's older here and that's a bit better. I'm waiting to see how you handle it, Shezza.

Alright, we need someone who's good at lemons to undertake this bit of prediction...

 

When a faery says something 3 times repeatedly they are bound to make sure that what they said is true. In Summer Knight, Dresden meets a faery sent to guide him to Maeve. He is uncertain if this guide can be trusted so he forces the guide to say "I will take you to Maeve safely"(or somesuch) three times. At that point the Faery is bound to that so that even if the guide had been planning to betray Dresden, having said it three times would somehow magically force the guide to do what he said.

Harry however is not a Faery. There is nothing magical that would bind him to his word. The only reason that he keeps his words/oaths to Dumbledore is because Meciel is honorable and does not want a reputation as someone whose word cannot be trusted. I figure the thing with Fawkes however was just Harry being himself and uttering idle threats because he was pissed.

But how does that work with Dresden canon where the whole faery concept originates?

In preparation to the next Dresden book I have been rereading the series and I just finished Summer Knight a short time ago. In it it was said that both winter and summer have three queens who are essentially the leaders and the ones that are most powerfull.

The queen who was, also called mother. Names unknown.
The queen who is. Mab for winter and Titania for summer.
The queen who will be, also called the Lady. Maeve for winter and Lily for summer.

Fawkes might be a powerfull sidhe but in actual power she would only be Maeves equal or superiour, if she were one of the summer queens. And that is not the case. I suppose its possible that Fawkes might have some outside source of power to supplant what she gets from her faery nature. However that kind of thing might upset the actual queen (Titania) and get her in lot of trouble.

When Leanandsidhe gets an athame which she claims makes her more powerfull, Mab first demands Dresdens debt from her and finally freezes her solid for daring to try and approach the queens in power.

This is why I figured that Dumbledore would have to be so important in forcing Maeve to submit to Fawkes. In a pure Maeve vs Fawkes matter, Maeve should be Fawkes's superiour in both magical and political power. Unless Shezza has something totally unexpected planned, which would not fit to the faery courts as described in Dresden canon.

 

I surely hope the next sequel isn't called Denarian Day Care.

 

Nah, I can't see that happening. Seeing as Harry will, most likely, start teaching her Dark Arts within several days, (if she can use a wand, that is) I doubt her humanity will rise from the ashes. Harry's just a wrong kind of a role model for these purposes.

 

Why not? Harry has no trouble using Dark Arts or killing people but he still loves Meciel. Who knows, maybe after teaching her to use all those nasty curses, Harry and Amaris will grow close by going around killing people together. Nothing bonds a father and daughter together better, than torturing a couple of people to death after all! You never know

 

Well, anything could happen Shezza's fic. (I tell you, his hamster is a bad influence) I agree that Amaris could develop feelings towards her father. That's probably what Dumbldore is hoping for. I don't believe, however, that there will be anything more to that. You can still be inhumane and like/love someone. Meciel is your best example.

My stepfather used to take me fishing and canoeing. Second one isn't very Russian but I always was a freak.

 

Harry'll be lucky to pass on his obnoxiousness/sarcasm to his daughter. Compassion? "Humanity"? Unlikely. Dark Arts? Possibly though it'd have been more fun if Harry's daughter were innocent.

Maybe she'll make friends with Amanda (if Shezza is feeling cruel)...

She'll be changed, no doubt, but not unrealistically. She's still part winter-faerie. Who knows what damage Maeve has done in 7 years.

 

That was my point exactly actually!
Amaris could come to love his father, maybe even over Maeve depending on where Shezza is planning to go with her. That however does not mean that she, or Harry for that matter, would have to become mushy happy saints who go around saving kittens and giving candy to small children.

Infact for all we know, Harry and Amaris might eventually conspire to kill Maeve so that Amaris would gain the powers of winter. It's not like Maeve seemed to feel anything positive towards her.

 

Damage?! That's blasphemy! Sidhe are a supreme race and the brat should be honoured to have such a wonderful upbringing.

What's the point? Amaris will get her throne eventually in any case.

 

Well that was just a random example. However is it actually a done deal that Amaris will be the next winter Lady? What if Maeve decides that Harry has corrupted her and gets pregnant with someone else? And even if not. What if Amaris&Harry decide that they dont want to wait for the several centuries it might take before Maeve moves on? Anything could happen.

Though really, this is all just amusing speculation and nothing more. For all we know, Shezza will have Amaris slip in the hogwarts stairs and break her neck in the next chapter.

 

Amaris isn't necessarily the best suited for the throne, either way. She probably is, being raised by Maeve and all, but she might not be.

 

Hmm, maybe you're right. Again this is Shezza so anything is possible. For all we know Harry could become a Winter Knight in the next chapter and Ameris could rape Amanda just for the hell of it.

 

Imagine how that would turn out. I sorta miss Amanda now, we haven't seen her in two chapters, two whole chapters.

 

I fricken loved the new chapters. Harry's reaction is fun, and it leaves me really wanting to see more of the interaction between him and his daughter.

I also wondered what happened to Cessbulby. It's kind of jarring for her to just not be there anymore.
