I seem to recall something about 5 chapters before christmas. This would be the second chapter. So I dont believe Im going to fall for it. Although I cant say I would be shocked if it did end like that. Just not quite that soon.

    Edit.

On Dumbledore's survival. I have zero problem with the cloak being used. Sure it has been all that big in the story so far, if at all I cant remember. But in canon it was just another cloak for a long time. Not too mention really the only one that was worth having in my opinion.

    The ending is :awesome

Although I see no point for Dumbledore to still live. He did his job let him die his noble death.

Loved the Dumbledore scene. Loved it.

As for saving him... A combination of the aforementioned golden light healing spells plus a bit of Fawkes' intervention would do the trick nicely, I'd say. Maybe through in some Fawkes characterisation and reveal what the bargain they struck originally was? I dunno.

:Awesome ! Loved the "ending" as well as all the scenes with Dumbledore in them. Enjoyed your battle scene also. I think having Amanda find Dumbledore is a very nice touch. Your characters are all very nicely done as far as seeming in-character yet "more" of who they are, if that makes sense.

    The hell?

As for how you keep Dumbledore alive until the end, I would strongly advise that you leave the cloak out of it. I really never liked the idea that it could hide people from 'death' in DH, and since the Elder Wand is really the only hallow that has any importance so far in the story, I think you should leave it out. Besides, it really doesn't seem right to have Dumbledore skulking around the castle under a cloak.

As for the Fey, I'm not so sure. If it was divine intervention that lead to him being pulled out of the fire, I don't know how much the Fey would do to help. They always seemed to be indifferent to that sort of thing.

Fawkes sacrificing herself doesn't really jive due to the fact that Fey don't really care much about humans unless there is profit in it for them, so for her to do something like that is kinda pointless.

I like the idea of Dumbledore making another pact with the Fey, but he wouldn't do it just to save his own life. The fact that a Knight of the Cross pulled him out of the fire should be enough for him to decide that he has something else he needs to do, though.

Could the sword perhaps serve to 'burn' the dark magic away, thereby allowing Dumbledore to heal himself enough to stay alive?

FUCK YEAH !!! :awesome:awesome:awesome Loved that part. I'm still giggling like a madman.

@Dumbledore situation - Hiding under the Clock doesn't sound that bad. It isn't perfect, but it is still believable. I liked Duke of Rothwood idea about the Sword burning out the Dark Magic and healing Dumbledore.

I throw in my nomination for Uriel having a hand. It seems fitting, divine intervention and all.

    1. You're a whore for the ending. Lulzy, but still whorish.

    2. Excellent update. I can really sense the work you've put in the characterisation here. Amanda's killed for the first time and even then, she's still struggling with the concept of death, especially by such a revered individual.

    3. As for Dumbledore, I'd go with Fawkes showing up and us finally knowing what the fuck was the deal they made.

I had a dream that Denarian Lord had ended, last night. It was strange.

Also, Shezza is a bitch for that ending. She's horrible.

And here I thought she'd gotten over this. Shezza, ending your story with rocks falling is mean, don't do it.

I like the sword saving him.
Fawkes is a fae, if this is a Dresden cross, then he/it should stay true to fae nature.
Although, their deal has to be revealed at some point.

Cloak works, since this story incorporates hallows, but I prefer sword.

You've got enough ideas here though to figure something out. Go with what you like.

In Death Masks, it turns out that Nicodemus' noose, besides protecting him, also lets him choose a victim once per year and nothing short of divine intervention could stop it... The Knights of the Cross, in response, can choose to save a person, at the cost of their OWN lives--not sure if it's ALWAYS at the cost of their own lives, or only when countering the noose.

Maybe Amanda could invoke this power to save Dumbledore? It could be something like the Knight taking the person's fate and getting assaulted/killed/wounded instead of him--or in the case of the person having been already wounded, they'd take the wounds unto themselves. Eh, dunno. Just some more ideas here.

I don't think Fawkes is necessarily a bad idea. We've seen Fae act in ways that don't benefit them out of compassion before (cough... Aurora... cough). It depends on the relationship between Fawkes and Dumbledore and the circumstances. And Fawkes may be dieing anyways because of the iron (and thus not have anything to loose and revenge against Voldemort/altruism as a motive).

But I prefer divine intervention. Something Meciel said earlier in the fic made me suspect Dumbledore is a descendent of Christ (something about Dumbledore being like Him and Dumbledore's ancestor would be proud). I know it's in violation of Bible cannon, but so is most of this fic, so...

Lawl, epic use of the Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies trope.

Regarding Dumbledore, my gut feeling is that you should keep it simple, whatever 'save' you end up choosing for him. And there should be consequences - perhaps he'll have to spend the rest of his days in the Wizarding version of a wheelchair, in exchange for still having his usual sharp mind. He's an extremely old man, after all....

If that was the actual ending I would be tempted to scream to the high heavens. And I second the motion for Uriel's intervention with Dumbledore, or any other angel, really, especially since it was hinted that he was Merciel's descendant. I personally dislike the sword-healing concept, as we don't see that anywhere in Dresden cannon, though I guess it really is your choice, Shezza. The cloak wouldn't be too bad in a pinch, however.
