Okay, so here's the deal. Inspired by the 'Make up a spell' thread, I decided to make this one.

The premise is extremely simple...list out original spells. No garbage, no 'peelsotog' or any other stupid set of words spelled the wrong way.

Just spells that have authentic latin/whatever language translations, and have an interesting enough effect that DLP authors would care to use them in their fics. The typical 'causes lots of pain' or 'fires a big grey ball' stuff is ridiculous, this is a thread where your creativity and originality is of importance. Think up crazy ideas...while dueling spells are cool, there are other spells that you can make up that could also be extremely interesting.

Try and stay within the boundaries that we are given...no 'bring-back-to-life' spells, no time-travelling spells, etc.

    Write them in this format:

If this works out nicely, then DLP authors can have a nice resource to look up if they're writing action scenes/whatever.

On the topic of ownership: Personally, if I were to submit a spell here, I'm immediately releasing whateve intellectual hold I had on it, and releasing it to anyone who reads it. I don't expect to be given credit for coming up with the spell, unless the author thinks it appropriate.

If you think your spell is creative enough, original enough, and just awesome enough, feel free to add in a postscript that says "give me credit for this"...but do realize, that if you post it here, then you'd sound ridiculous if you said "ask me for permission to use this spell".

So, DLP...go wild. Here's hoping that we see more than just:

Tomorrow, I'll post a list of the spells that I used in the fight scene in Chimera.

Edit: This thread can also be used as a Spell-Request Thread...ONLY if the request is legitimate, such as an author saying "I want such-and-such effect, can someone make a spell for me?"

No "Whoa, someone make a spell that makes Snape's balls fall off!" or other bullshit like that.

Ok, lets see, bit cliche, maybe a bit overpowered but i think it's alright.

induco caelum necnon terra simul - Bring sky and earth together

Causes a hail of meteors to strike the target area

    Classified as arcane magic

Very few wizards or witches can accomplish this because it requires immense power. The last recorded usage of this spell was in 1832 when two warring wizarding families clashed in the scottish highlands. There are still scar marks from the barrage visable today. Before that it was credited to have caused the instability that eventually sunk the isle of Atlantis.

P.S all of the historical information is made up.

It would also be a good idea if someone were to make a name and give a bit more discription from some of the good and creative spells in the make a spell thread.

    Spell Incantation - (still unknown)

Spell Effect:"fire rush" produces a large protective barrier of fire and magic completly surrounding the user, in a protective stage that can stop from medium class spells and lower.

With the second stange, the user can effect another part of the spell. The protective barrier of fire and magic would spit out hundreds of fire bullets everywhere.

    Classified as Elemental fire spell

Interesting facts: The spell was created by a wizard who is a pyromaniac. Until, he died from his own fire spell. Causes of death still unknown.

Alrighty then :D Here's my spell..

Spell: Auxilium. Means To aid, help, support.
Spell Effect: When pointed to person desired, some of your Magical power/health (depending on situation) will be leeched into them. Will stop when the connection is broken.
Spell Classification: Guess it's an enchantment of some sort. Actually strike that. It's a healing spell used in battle.
Interesting Fact: Can be cast within a 100m radius - closer you are, more powerful it will be.

...well that was my spell :D

W00t, a spell thread that is actually serious.

    Spell
: Incendia Verbero. If my translator hasn't failed me, it means "fire whip".

    Rank: A-

Spell Effect: Causes a long, thin, whip made of fire to erupt from the tip of the caster's wand. The whip will burn anything it touches, with varying degrees of power depending on the casters own intentions and magical ability. Lasts as long as the caster wants or until the caster's magical power runs out.

    Spell Classification: Offensive Weapon

Interesting Fact: The whip is extremely versatile. If only a bit of power is injected into it, it can be used to bind enemies, keeping them in place and causing them extreme pain as their skin is burned off, and with medium power and proper handling, the whip can be used to penetrate the body of an enemy, setting their internal organs on fire. If the caster focuses all his power into the whip, it can be used to break through individual shields and make anything it touches burst into flames, no matter how small the contact area might be.

Also, here's my other spell from the original thread, based on one of Rider's abilities in Fate/Stay Night:

    Blood Fort - Outer Seal

Spell Effect - A magical ward, held up by several runes placed around strategic locations around whatever is being protected, that dissolves anyone who enters it, provided their magical signature hasn't being keyed to the ward, into a slurry of blood and organic ooze. Its only real drawback is the fact that the runes that hold it up cannot be placed inside the ward's protective field.

    School - Dark Arts/Warding Magic

    Rank: A+

Range - It depends on the power placed into the ward. An average wizard might be able to cover a room with it. Several wizards might be able to cover a house. Several powerful wizards might be able to cover a castle.

Casting Time - Three minutes to cast, anywhere between a few hours to several days to set up the runes required for casting.

Duration - The spell will last depending on how much power is placed into it. An average ward cast by a single wizard will last a few days, while one cast by several powerful ones might last for weeks before requiring renewal.

Counter Measures/Enhancing Measures - There are two ways to break through the ward: the first is to use blunt power to break it, an impractical action given the fact that it will leave the wizard or wizards who do it drained of energy, even if they do manage to break through. An alternative would be to individually seek out and destroy the runes maintaning the force field, but properly cast ward runes are hard to detect, and the enemy might notice your presence if it takes you and your allies too long to destroy the runes.

An alternative would be to simply slip through the ward by casting a shield that negates the ward's destructive effects on each wizard assaulting whatever site is being protected by it. Unfortunately, each shield would have to be of equal or greater strenght when compared to the ward that is being penetrated, which is something incredibly hard to accomplish, especially when dealing with groups of people, given the fact that, since the shielded individuals will be required to move, runes cannot be used to assist in holding the shield up. Thus, only a very powerful wizard could fit the power of a ward into an individual shield, and even then he would feel drained.

A few spells I've made for my fanfics. I've tried to make them one-worded in the canon tradition.

And one I've made just now...

Spell: Scisco somes (lit: to ascertain the body.

Spell Effect: When pointed at the remenants of a human, displays the legal name of the victim in a dull, white vapor by using residual magic in the remains. It is often used when the victim is so mangaled that they cannot be identified; can be used on blood, amputated parts of a body, or charred remains. It cannot be used on a victim that is magically exhausted or drained, such as those given the Dementor's Kiss. It can be used on a living being, but is often not as it uses the victim's internal magic to produce and therefore a skilled enough person could hypothetically manipulate their magic into producing the wrong name.

Spell Classification: Hex developed by healers to identify fatalities during what muggles know as the War of the Roses (aka The Second Blood Mage War), where it became a common sight to retrieve mere scraps of humans from gory battlefields.

Interesting Fact: It is often used on children who have gotten lost in large crowds to return them to their parents, and was used widely in the First Rise of Voldemort to uncover Death Eater antagonists were after scrimages; in this way, this spell ensured only the most deadly and most lucky Death Eaters remained unknown and free throughout the war: wounded Death Eaters were more often than not killed by their own fellows upon conclusion of a battle from this reason alone, directly fueling the tales of their visciousness.

Also, even if it's widely used in such a way in fandom, it seems to me that the Silencing Charm was never designed to create "wards" and soundproof rooms. Therefore I invented another spell:

    Spell incantation: Vercundus
    Translation: Bash or to Bash
Spell Effect: Basically this spell makes it so the wand tip grows a hammer or mace of some sort that is magically powered and weightless. Considering that this is created by magic, there is no weight to slow you down or tire you out. If there is a group of people surrounding you, then you use this spell and just swing it around.
Spell Classification: I'm not that sure :)
Interesting Facts: This is usually used as a last resort when you are coupled up against many enemies in close proximity. To make this less, well overused, This will drain your magic fairly quickly. Not many use it because of it's "waste" of magic, but when appropriate, it is a deadly weapon.

Edit: I'm tending to see a lot of godly spells. I personally think that there should be downsides or weakness to every spell. My opinion though.

    The Iron Slut
Incantation "Expecto Curam" means Expel Pain
Relative Difficulty; Post-NEWT Dark Arts (comparable to the patronus)
    School; Conjuration/Evocation [Evil]
    Range; Close (Inside 10 meters)
Countered by; Patronus (counterspell) or Physical Shield (prevents it from taking shape).
    Casting time; 2-3 seconds
Description; By summoning up the casters memories of pain and torment, he can give them physical form. The more painful the memories that fuel it, the more effective it gets. When properly cast (the wand movement is the same as for the Patronus but in reverse) a large "Iron Maiden" is formed out of super magnetic metal around the target. The Iron Maiden is shaped inside to it the victim exactly, except for the inclusion of several sharp spikes centered in sensitive areas. If their reflexes are even a split second too slow (better get moving before it's half formed) it will slam together and the magnetism will take several minutes to wear off. The spike pattern of each person's Iron Slut will be unique and the scars often show something personal about the creator (even if it is just "man this guy got off on causing pain").

Since it is literally pain and misery made manifest, a patronus (happiness and joy made manifest) can be used to counter the formation if cast in time. Likewise if a shield can be erected to prevent the two sides coming together that lasts long enough to end the magnetism, the damage will obviously be avoided.

    Classification: Illusion Magic

Effects: The barrier between the dead and living world is breached, and specters of all shapes and sizes are released into the room. Shaped in horrid ways of pain filled death and agony, their presence is quite horrifying, and distracting. While unable to cause physical harm to anyone, the mental strain of seeing long lost loved ones, and victims who have been mutilated beyond what you could ever dream can have some effects.

Notes: Formed during the blood wars between Hashforth the One-eye and Inkor the Doomed, it was created by Smiger Jolgoff. One need not always rely on skill, if ones opponents have not the will or capability to strike back.

    The Duel Spell

Neca Aut Necari (Murder or be Murdered; this particular verb [necare] specifically suggests a more primal intent)

Used to pit the raw magic of two or more desired individuals (by the caster) against each other with only their will to guide them. Erased from consideration is the wizards' abilities and mentalities, and truely anything that distinguishes them from another. The raw magic of the individual is directed only by that individual's will; as such, one with stronger will can (in theory) overpower one with stronger magic.

Classification: Ritual (Dark Arts)--Requires a simple Rune (Celtic symbol for death) drawn in between participating parties (with or without their consent) in each user's blood.

It is classified as a 'Dark Art' because of the ultimate result of the duel. The loosing parties (for there is allowed only one victor, which would suggest not to take friends or allies along) find their magic power destroyed, and without fail, will die, for magic is the essence of existence of all beings--without it, they will cease to exist.

Harry Potter plans to use this ritual to fight the Dark Lord Voldemort.

I wrote these notes out for the Fidelius Charm while writing Soul's Struggle

    The Fidelius Charm

Notes: The Fidelius Charm is an ancient spell of security. In essence, it removes a designated area from the Universal Plane, allowing it to exist outside of locatable space. A less refined version of this charm is the Unplottability Enchantment; which pushes a location between the Universe and this "Other" space, allowing it to reside in both which has the effect of making it "Unplottable". The Fidelius Charm takes great power and mental strength to cast, only a few are able to cast it with themselves as the "Secret-Keeper" - it is much easier to have another speak the Secret, which seals them as such.

To cast the Fidelius Charm, one must first designate an area by inscribing the rune Eihwaz at each point upon a Pentagram, Pentagon, Triquetra, or other arcane symbol surrounding the location to be secured. At the centre of this location, an anchor for the spell must be created in order to allow the locations existence once the Charm is complete. Inscribe upon this anchor the following runes:

Algiz: for protection and to channel magic
Sowilo: Elemental Fire, cleansing power to remove location from the Universe
Eihwaz: (Only inscribe if using a Triquetra or other three pointed symbol as the basis for this Spell - this keeps the Charm as either a 5 pointed spell or a 3 pointed spell) restricts Sowlio to marked boundaries
Jera: reversal; removes location from Universal Plane
Isa: removes from memory, blocks knowledge of location from minds, isolates area, and provides stability for other runes
Uruz: focuses Runes and Spellwork into Incantation

    Seal this anchor with blood.

While casting the Charm, wave wand fluidly in the shape of your boundary; this seals the spell into permanence. Focus mind on secrecy, protection, and loyalty.

Casting the Charm must take place outside the designated area, as it may become quite painful to be removed from the Universe.

    Spell Incantation:

Deflagrate muri tempi, et intervallia. Etenium, dissimulo fidelis arcanum,
    <The Secret-Keeper must now speak his Secret>
    Promitta.

Translation: Burn down walls of time and space, and conceal this loyal secret. (this isn't proper Latin)

    Spell Effect:

The Fidelius Charm removes a location from the Universe, effectively hiding it from unwanted attention. Because the spell is based on Loyalty, betrayal by any involved with casting the spell will break the Charm.

Spell Classification: Charm (if it were an enchantment - the location would be lost forever)

I never write the fidelius charm the same way twice. The first time I used it, it was discovered by Merlin and was a blood magic spell derived from druid traditions. The second time it was almost like a ward, inscibe some runes on the corners of the place to be hidden, cast a long and dangerous spell and viola... Most recently I messed around with a slightly shadier origin (after all, why would good people need to hide?), which I shall submit here...

    Fidelius Charm (ghetto version)

History; Long ago a gang of wizards had a bit of trouble with the law in Nottingham and had to retreat to the forest to escape. The decided to enchant their camp in the woods so that it would be impossible to find. They invented a spell that would be impenetrable so long as their secret keeper stayed faithful to the gang. For several years after the gang became immensely wealthy and popular, robbing and stealing then spending the wealth among the poor shopkeepers and villagers. Over time the gang and it's leader, Robin of Loxley, gained an almost mythic status among the poor and downtrodden for their drunken spending habits.

Eventually though a rift inevitably formed between Robin and the secret keeper. It seems that the secret keeper had been lusting after a certain young maid, but became jealous when he saw her leave Robin's tent. In retaliation, the secret keeper went to the town Sheriff and traded protection for the secret of Robin's Hoodlums. The rest as they say, is history.

Casting; First a measure of blood is drawn from the secret keeper. The secret to be hidden is written with this blood on a piece of fresh parchment and the rest of the blood is mixed with wine. A circle is drawn around the area with the blood and wine mixture.

Using the caster's wand the rune for earth is drawn with the wine on the parchment while speaking the first part of the spell, "Semper paratus fecisti nega!” The rune for fire is drawn in flames from the wand onto the parchment while speaking the second part, "Ultra posse nemo obligatur." Finally the smoke is forced into the rune of air and inhaled by the secret keeper while the last line is recited "Totum dependeat semper fidelis!"

Translation; "Always be ready to deny you did it." "No man is obligated beyond his abilities." and "Let it all hang out, we are always faithful." Among the gang the spell became their unofficial laws, 1. Admit nothing, deny everything. 2. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. and 3. Don't rat out the gang.

    Ward Hammer

History; This spell is used to break through defensive wards when all else fails. This extremely un-subtle spell basically just forces the caster's will, determination, and magical strength against the ward over and over again on the same spot, like a sledge hammer.

Casting; The wand movement is made by first moving the wand in an infinity loop heading first to the left and completed on the right, when the loop is completed snap the wand upward and whip it down like a hammer while saying the incantation "Mallus Custodiet". A glowing red hammer will form in the air and strike downward against the protected object. When the hammer strikes, it is not uncommon to see the ward itself like a shining shield for a brief second. The spell will continue untill the ward is broken or the caster ends it. Multiple casters can combine their strength to form a single larger hammer by substituting the downward whip for a diagonal slash towards the main caster.

If anyone uses the spells in this thread for a story, it would be cool if they could toss some credit to the person that thought them up. After all, creating decent spells is apparently hard work, what with all of the 'Explodio' and 'meabresal' (laserbeam... ugh) spells and pig latin shit I've seen.

I made these next ones for one of my Draco Kill Off stories.
In the same post I had...

    Cauterizatus (Cauterize) - A standard wound-cauterizing spell.

Connudatus (Stark Naked) - A charm that rips the target's clothes off and vanishes the remains (a somewhat violent and more thorough version of standard clothing removal jinxes).

Lacero (Mangle, Destroy, Cut) - A generic cutting curse that is specifically designed to slice flesh (like a single-slice version of the Sectumsempra), rather than the canon Severing Charm, which is clearly too underpowered for combat and is designed to be used like a pair of scissors for somewhat precise work.

Another pair of Draco Kill Off spells...

    Name: Mind-Rape
    Incantation: Mensrapere
    School: Charm
    Classification: Dark Arts Jinx
    Legality: Completely illegal.
Appearance: A small white ball of light, much like a moving Lumos.
    Area: One target
Spell Effect: As a person ages, the brain acquires more and more creases, signifying intelligence and memory. This curse removes every single one, essentially returning the victim to the state of a newborn. No known cure or countercurse.

NOTES: This spell can be resisted or even reversed if the caster's willpower is equal to or weaker than the intended victim's willpower.

    Name: Nothing curse.
    Incantation: Nihilus
    School: Charms
    Classification: Dark Arts Hex
    Legality: Completely illegal.
Appearance: A small black ball, much like a moving, negative Lumos.
    Area: One target
Spell Effect: Causes the target to literally cease to exist. Nihilus breaks down the atomic and molecular bonds that keep all matter solid, resulting in a pile of dust where the target used to be.

NOTES: Requires extreme mental power, intelligence and willpower or it WILL backfire and kill the caster. The smarter the caster, the less preparation time is needed. Only practical when the intended victim is incapacitated or otherwise disabled.

Not my spells. Yoinked from www.thestroppyprofessor.com. I'm just creating the details.

    The parting of water.

    Arcane magic

Make me a path - Like all ancient magic, the incantation can be in any language, which is lucky, sense the languages most of them were in have been lost.

This spell was used before witches and wizards learned to apparate or fly. While traveling by foot, if they came to a body of water, rather than go around, they could create a path through it by moving the water out of the way. The larger the body of water, the more difficult.

This spell was made famous by Moses, around three thousand years ago, or so.

Comment on the Nihilus, because it seems that there's...SOMETHING wrong there.

If you were to do that, then the release of energy from all that would be significant enough to note. We're not breaking down the atoms themselves, but there are still trillions upon trillions of complex and simple bonds of varying degrees of strength and power; the chemistry behind it states that that energy HAS to go somewhere, probably in a sort of small aftershock.

Except for the fact that this is magic, not chemistry, so we can ignore all of that. If we were going by what chemistry said was possible, then this whole thread would be pointless.
