    Interesting spells.

    Name: Transparent charm
    Incantation: Conspectus perscruto
    Translation: See through
    Classification: Forensic spell
Legality: Can only be cast legally by forensic mages. However, a waiver can be given to certain individuals.
Appearance: A thin blue haze. When properly cast, it shall be absorbed into an object which will faintly glow glow blue.
Effect: It makes an object transparent.
Notes: This is one of the many spells enchanted on the infamous Alastor Moody's eye. It is the reason why it is electric blue.

    Name: No-peek-a-boo charm
    Incantation: Conspectus perscruto caligare transit
    Translation: See through dizziness
    Classification: Covert spell
Legality: Legal for intel-mages. Waivers can be given to individuals.
Appearence: A green haze. When absorbed into an item, it creates a slight distortion.
Effect: Any body looking through the enchanted object becomes dizzy, and the object is dark and fogged.
Notes: It was created by Harry Potter when he raided Death Eater homes in the Third Blood War. When cast on a fence or an object using to entrap/keep people out it makes the entire coumpound impossible to look into. It is one of the several spells used around Hogwarts.

    EDIT: Some more

    Name: Warrior Animation spell
    Incantation: Spiritus Militus
Legality: Legal in war and Life threatening circumstances
    Class: Transfiguration/Charm
Effect: It transfigures air into more stable particles which then bind to create a solid form. It then animates itself, and serves to protect the creator, or who the creator tells it to. It can also be used as an offensive instead of defensive.
Appearance: None. The warrior is armoured, but weapon, shield and armour all rely on the caster’s personality.
Notes: In 2014 this spell was used extensively by the Dark Lord Pyre, a renowned Pyromaniac. It was believed that his warriors did not become solid, but instead became fire. His legions of these warriors often burst into large fire balls once defeated, and took out a large chunk of the surrounding area.

    Name: Repulsion spell
    Incantation: Propulso debello
    Legality: Legal
    Class: Offensive Spell
Effect: It repels every living thing with 5 feet of the caster.
Appearance: Slight yellow glow around the caster, before a distorted ring of yellow spreads out.
Notes: This is spell is incapable of telling ally from foe. Therefore, it is recommended that the spell be cast away from allies

    Name: Repulsion ward
    Incantation: Ancora propulso debello
    Legality: Legal
    Class: Offensive ward
Effect: Repels anybody not keyed into it away from the warded area.
Appearance: In the magical spectrum, it is a sickly yellow. It can not be seen outside of the magical spectrum.
Notes: This is the ward version of the repulsion spell.

    Name: Waves of Force
    Incantation: Neocrebroinundo-Quiexigo
Translation: Neo - To spin, Crebro - Repeatedly, in - in, Undo - Waves, Qui - which, Exigo - Force Out
    School: Combat
    Classification: Arcane
    Legality: Unknown
Wand Movement: Spin around in circles with your wand outstretched.
Appearance: A shimmering wave of force (somewhat like heat waves).
Effect: Waves of force continually fly outwards from the wand throwing everything hit backwards.
Notes: The largest problem with this spell is that you can't move from the spot you started casting it in, and in order to stop people from attacking you have to spin really fast. If you step away from the spot that you started casting it in your wand will backfire with a high-powered banishing charm, throwing you backwards very forcefully. This spell drains a large amount of energy, but surprisingly much less than would be expected, the average seventh year could probably maintain it for 2 spins.

If you're going to use some of my spells, I'd appreciate receiving credit.

    Translation: everlasting song
    School: Domestic charm
    Clasification: Charm
    Legality: legal
Wand Movement: Tap the musical instrument you are charming. If succesful the instrument began huming.
Effect: If played on charmed instrument, the instrument would repeat the melody you played for seven to ten times.
Notes: Five yers domestic charm. Used by Quirrel to overcome Flufy the Three-headed dog.

Ah...hah. I'll just suggest that you be a bit more careful in your typing there, so that these...typos don't keep popping up in your posts all the time.

Exitium de Moenia Vindicatium Nostram ut Universum (Destruction of the Walls Protecting Ours and the Universe)

The ties that bind our strengths were discovered 4000 years ago in Ancient Greece. The ties maintain a constant restraint over our abilities, be they mental, physical, magical, or spiritual. This ritual is meant to destroy those ties, to allow for the greatest strengths of humanity to flow freely from their constraints. This is the latest version of the technique, developed in Milan in the year 612.

    Dark Arts-Ritual

The effects of this spell are to release natural bindings preventing the full use of the human body, mind, and spiritual and magical energies. The latent human can, at best, use 10-40% of his capacity in any of the aforementioned areas; the ritual releases the bindings on these areas, allowing the user the full grasp of all his powers.

The release of the restraints allows for unrestrained use of the muscles, allowing for a person to lift 3-4 tiems their body weight. It allows for unrestrained use of the mind, allowing incalculable processing and reaction capabilities and the ability to expertly use these newfound powers. It allows for unrestrained use of magic, allowing it to flow forward and respond directly to the user's will. It allows for unrestrained use of the soul, allowing the user to keep control while all others have been released.

However, this is not without its price--and a hefty price it is. The restraints are there in order to keep a person from destroying oneself; the release of these restraints, while granting several times the strength of mind, body, magic and spirit, is usable for only a short period of time--however long before the human's threshold of pain drives him insane or destroys his body.

The damage that is ultimately done tears the muscles to shreds, bursting arteries and veins and destroying the heart. It burns out the connections between brain cells, destroying the mind and leaving a vegetable. It burns through the magical core, destroying those pathways that allow access to the innate human magic and the human ability to understand it. And it wears on the soul, ripping it assunder, destroying that which ties us to this world, until not any shred of it remains, and there is nothing left of that which was a human.

For the allowance of nearly overpowering strength, the price is a fate worse than death.

    Name: Curse of Flame
    Incantation: Flamma Corripio
Translation: Flamma - Fire, Corripio - attack (disease)
    School: Deadly Curse
    Classification: Dark Arts
    Legality: 10 years in Azkaban
Wand Movement: A downward sweep followed by a flick towards the target, the slower the wand movement the more effective the spell, and the longer it lasts.
Appearance: A dark red beam that is surrounded by black fire.
Effect: Infects an organic target with a disease that burns as it eats through the victim, if used against a non-organic substance that is flammable will light it on fire.
Notes: This spell is somewhat hard to cast effectively in a duel, as it is easily blocked if cast quickly. If cast incorrectly, with either a mispronounced syllable, or a slight twitch in the wand movement, this curse will backfire and begin to eat away at the caster's magical core. This spell fell out of style because it requires to much time to cast and has too great of consequences if interrupted. A very obscure bit of knowledge about this spell, is that at full power it would be more dangerous than a killing curse, as it would also break through and light on fire any conjured materials, sadly, it takes an entire two minutes and thirty seconds to fully cast, in which time you'd have to be moving continuously at the rate of a snail.

I would like to receive credit if anybody uses this.

  6. Name: The Killing Curse
    Incantation: Avada Kedavra
    School: Dark Arts/ Ancient Magic
    Legality: Life Imprisonment
History: The history and mechanism of this curse is known to only a few scholars despite its notoriety. The name of the curse designer is unknown the story behind it remains.
In approximately 966 A.D. a Dark Lord by the name Raikor began his rise. This was in the time when the bridge between ancient magic and our more modern version of magic was being bridged with the designing of more stable wands. In Raikor's rise he and a few minions killed a troublesome clan who had opposed him. All in that clan accept a pair of twins were killed. The twins were hidden with magic by their parents as the saw Raikor's men approaching.
The twin's grew up to become skilled in magic, though they never approached Raikor's men for revenge, living the lives there parents protected. However skilled they became in magic they could not complete the goal the longed for; to create a spell to raise their parents from the dead.
One night, when they had finally created a spell to rip through the barrier separating this world from the ethereal world of the dead, they went out to perform the spell. Hoping to at least speak to their parents. It was one brother who was to perform the spell, whilst the other was to sustain numerous shields and rune wards surrounding the point from a safe distance.
Upon performing the spell, the brother and the area was engulfed in a huge amount of green power which ate through the shields with ease and left the area devoid of any form of life. Only the distance allowed the other brother to get away.
The other twin upon seeing the death of his twin was stricken with grief. Before he committed suicide he set himself the task of destroying the man who had lead to the death of all he had dear to him. With dangerous experimentation he managed to design a safer version of the failed spell which would draw of the power separating the two worlds of which he saw the devastating effects. Like a lot of ancient magics the drawing required a sacrifice. To channel the power which would so easily rid life, the body of the caster would undergo strain on the deepest level causing the soul to crack and split.
The spell Avada Kedavra would always be accompanied by a rushing sound and eerie green light, and was the last thing Dark Lord Raikor saw.

Interesting, except I believe this is a list for spells that are not named in the books. Besides that, you should think about heading over to the intro forum and telling us a little about yourself and your preferences towards fanfiction. Kinda cool backstory by the way.

Interesting backstory for the killing curse, but you need to watch your spelling, and possibly phrasing as well. All/Everyone, There/Their, designing/Creation, accept/except Ect.

You might want to change the date. 2014 hasn't quite got here yet :p

Otherwise, good spells. I'll be uploading one or two more when I get back home.

To be honest, I thought i'd put down 1914. Anyway, with a book I got out of the library yesterday I can use some Egyptian spells!

    Name: Pain relieving spell
Incantation: Shenu arhoo (Translates loosely to "To excorcise pain")
    Classification: Light art/ Healing art
    Legality: Legal
    Appearence: White mist
    Effect: Relieves pain.
Notes: It is one of the many healing spells found in High Preist Pinedjem's Book of Magic.

    Name: Osiris's punishment curse
Incantation: Niece netcher-ar wisir (To invoke great god Osiris)
    Classification: Ancient magic/ Dark arts
    Legality: Illegal
    Appearence: A green spear.
Effect: Creates large explosions wherever it impacts.
Notes: It was found in Ramses II's Book of Magic.

    Name: The Strands of Light
    Incantation: Deo Dia Hapto
    Classification: Ancient/Holy Spell
    Legality: Legal
Appearence: Strands of white light emerge from the floor and bind the target.
Effect: The target is bound by the wrists, ankles and neck by strands of divine light. Target is constrained by these bindings.
Notes: Is especially effective against vampires and creatures sensitive to holy spells/light.

History: Used by the Ancient Greeks to fight Persian vampires, last recorded use was in the battle of Thermopylae, when an unknown Spartan wizard bound over one thousand of the undead warriors, destroying most of the East Persian clans.

Eventually fell out of favour when the vampire population declined and the 'petrificus totalus' spell was invented in early Roman times.

    Name: Aegis Shield
Incantation: Sphaera Aegis (spherical shield, I think)
    Classification: Defensive Conjuration
Appearance: Transluscent spherical bubble around the caster
Technique: Waving the wand in a circular pattern above the caster, pointing the wand roughly in the centre of said circle, and speaking the incantation. The bubble flows from the wand-tip.
Legal, requires moderate-high levels of magic.
Effect: The Aegis Shield forms a protective bubble around the caster that absorbs/deflects offensive spells and physical attacks. It lasts longer than the Protego shield (according to power applied by caster). and protects from all directions. It can be recharged while still active by merely focusing magic into it. Effectiveness obviously depends on magical abilities of the caster.
Notes: A lesser known. but good spell used by advanced duellers, Aurors and Hitwizards in large scale fights.

    Name: Impact Spell
    Incantation: Impetus Maximus (massive impact)
    Classification: Offensive Curse
Appearance: almost indiscernible shimmering wall of force.
Technique: Sideways slash of the wand. Lesser the width of the slash, greater concentration of energy, more destructive the spell but with a reduced area of effect.
Legal, requires average+ levels of magic.
Effect: It releases a wave of magical energy in said appearance. Much more focussed than a Banishing Charm, and consequently more useful for offense.
Notes: Originally used by magical demolition teams to bring down structures quickly. Became popular in duels, as its hard to notice if cast silently. Since it works like a physical attack (unlike the Banishing Charm), a simple Protego isn't likely to deflect it.

This is a series of spells I made up in physics class. It was actually the class itself that got me thinking. I am of the opinion that magic should at least give consideration to the laws of nature. Thus, these spells act on objects by tricking the laws of physics into acting differently. They are all variations/offshoots of the standard Summoning Spell, accio.

    Global Summoning Spell

    Incantation: Accio globus

    Classification: Charm

Effect: Summons all objects within the effect radius by changing the direction of gravity. Requires an average amount of power, not much more than a standard summoner, but requires intense concentration in order to avoid summoning buildings. Even greater mental discipline will allow the user to only summon objects (or people) of his/her choice. Highly effective way to draw enemies in for powerful but close-range area attack.

    Reversed Summoning Spell

    Incantation: Accio inverto

    Classification: Charm

Effect: Similar to standard banisher. Causes target to be pulled towards user through altered gravity with negative acceleration. Unlike the banisher, which simply sets an object in motion, this charm's target will keep flying until the gravitational force becomes negligible. Impractical for everyday use, but important stepping stone for the Reversed Global Summoning Spell.

Reversed Global Summoning Spell also called Area Banisher

    Incantation: Accio inverto globus

    Classification: Charm

Effect: Very similar to Global Summoner, but with negative acceleration. Requires a slightly substantial amount of power behind it. Very effective when surrounded.

    Mass Masker

    Incantation: *insert root incantation* wingard

    Classification: Charm Extension

Effect: Intended for use with any of the Summoning Spells. Based on the Levitation Charm, but with more mild effects. Partially neutralizes the effect of the mass of an object on gravity, making it easier to physically manipulate. Difficult to control both spells simultaneously.

    Remote Targeter

    Incantation: *insert root incantation* semotus

    Classification: Charm Extension

Effect: Activates the root spell with a remote object as the gravitational center. Intended for use with any of the Summoning Spells. Requires significant power to cast.

    Notes on Charm Extensions:
When used with single-target Summoners in which the name of the target is stated after the incantation, the extension incantation should precede this as well.

Multiple extensions are extremely difficult to maintain and should only be attempted by experienced users.

I don't mean to sound like a prick, but I did put a lot of time into creating these spells and especially their inner workings. I'm not asking for royalties, but if you use them I would appreciate a footnote. Thanks.

    Spell Modifications (Prefixes):
Accelero - Increases the speed of a beam spell. Is normally used in tandem with Percutio, the Accelero coming first (i.e. Accelero-Percutio Expelliarmus).
Percutio - Adds a piercing effect to a spell, allowing it to puncture through some objects and shields.
Recolo-Per-Pulsum: Reflect-With-Hit - Causes a spell to reflect off of a non-organic target once, allowing the caster to bounce spells around a corner.
Recolo-Bisper-Pulsum: Reflect-Twice-With-Hit - The same as the Recolo-Pulsum, except that the spell will reflect twice, the second reflection isn't perfectly efficient, so some of the spell bleeds into the second target. (If used efficiently with a fire spell, you can light multiple enemies on fire with a simple fire spell, conserving magical power).
Inficioper: Imbue with - Can be used to enchant an item temporarily (i.e. Inficioper Ignis used on a sword could imbue it with fire). If the caster uses more power than a victim has, then you can use this spell on a living creature, and it will drain the victim's magical power to fuel the enchantment.

    Spells:
    Name: Tracking Charm
    Incantation: Persequor Venustas
Translation: Persequor - Track, Venustas - Charm
    School: Charm
    Classification: Ministry Regulated
Legality: An expensive fine and monitoring charms applied to you and your wand.
Wand Movement: Swish your wand from left to right, then spin it clockwise around the target, then flick it towards the target.
Appearance: The beam is a slight distortion in the air, like somebody that is disillusioned.
Effect: Allows the caster to use a tracking spell to find the target despite any wards around the target, as well as allowing the caster to concentrate on the target and feel what direction they are in.
Notes: Can be linked to an object to determine where the target is at, or linked to an area, to determine whether or not the target is within that area, or not.

I hope you realise that "venustas" means Charm in an entirely different way? It means something along the lines of sex appeal.

No, I don't know Latin at all, I'm practically speaking gibberish at you all. I can't edit it now, but I'll make sure to research it a little bit more next time.

    Spell Prefix:
Infinitus-Effingo: Takes alot of energy, will duplicate your spell as many times as your supply of magic can withstand, this will cause magical exhaustion.

Just one more thing on the Tracking Charm, I don't think any spell would be a direct translation of the words "Tracking Charm" - It would be more like "Track my foe" or "Tell thy place". Since its in pig-latin it would be in Ye Olde speak, at least, Ye Olde Latin :p.

When I use a translator I always type in the latin word to see what words come up. If I type in "light" and get "venustas" & "lepor lepos", I would then type in "venustas" and would get "loveliness, charm, attractiveness, beauty". Kind of shows what it means :p

    Name: Greek Fire

Incantation: perivergo igró pyr Βασιλεία Ρωμαίων (Basileia Rōmaiōn in normal text)

    Translation: Byzantine magic fire

Classification: Enchantment; The incantation supposedly activates it, although this is a matter of contention.

Legality: Legal; The process of the spell was lost with the fall of the Byzantine Empire.

Appearance: A seemingly normal fire that spewed out of a container; usually a spout.

Effect: A fast-spreading fire that consumes everything it touches and is nearly impossible to stop.

    Interesting Facts:
Greek Fire was first invented by the Byzantine magicians around the time of Attila the Hun. It was intended to be a weapon that could decisively defeat his sorcerers who, having trained from birth in cruel conditions ideal to molding the perfect warrior, were vastly superior to any mages the Byzantines could offer in defense. These mages also had the benefit of carrying the blessing of the Mongolian plain, which at that time - by a mysterious device that has not been explained satisfactorily even now - consistently produced the strongest wizards in the world and would continue to do so until the time of Kublai Khan.

The weapon was molded to devour human flesh and the magical cores of wizards, jumping from one man to another until a whole army was ablaze. In this respect, it failed. When first used, the weapon proved no more effective than other magical enchantments on land. Attila's army continued its rampage uncontested, and only the wards of Constantinople - which were and are the greatest magical defenses ever constructed in history - prevented the empire from falling.

Greek Fire was rediscovered by the Emperor Constans II in 655 at the naval Battle of Phoinike. During the battle, an Arab fleet was on the verge of a devastating victory, and Constans II was trying everything he possibly could to save his navy, including using weapons meant for land on sea. And then he used Greek Fire. The flames came out of a spigget, and several Arab ships were nearly instantly destroyed. As the tide of the battle turned to the favor of the Romans, the Arab naval commander, a master of keeping his cool in tough situations, suddenly wove a spell he'd newly created that repelled the fire back onto the Greek fleet. The battle became a disaster; nearly 500 ships of Constans II were lost.

Yet despite this, the Byzantines had discovered a weapon of unprecedented power. Made through a series of complex rituals that utilized a series of highly reactive, unknown, chemicals, it proved highly effective on sea because, while unable to effectively use magic in living beings as fuel, the flames thrived on the magical power inherent in water. So it was that many a mage on the high seas succumbed to death after they found themselves amazed by the quick creation of a firestorm on water. Greek Fire proved particularly useful on the coasts, as the water there had far more magical bases to feed the fires.

Having discovered a potentially awesome weapon, Byzantine researchers immediately set about refining and upgrading it. The final product was reached around 15 years later. After these advances, there was no counter to Greek Fire. Even throughout the centuries it was used, the only true way to stop it was for a magician high enough in power to break the spell into pieces with sheer brute force. For many years, the Arabs - at that time the most advanced enemy of the Romans - debated among themselves which of the several strategies they'd developed against it was most effective. But, in truth, the only somewhat useful strategy was to hammer the enchantment into destruction when it was first unleased, before an unstoppable fire was created.

One such firestorm annihilated the Arab navy at the Battle of Syllaeum in 678. A second series of firestorms slowly smashed the navy into pieces and stopped the Arab advance into Europe for 700 years at the Second Siege of Constantinople from 717-718. From then on, Greek Fire was one of the main weapons of the empire. When an opposing commander heard the incantation perivergo igró pyr Βασιλεία Ρωμαίων, signaling the release of the fire, he had to quickly improvise to prevent disaster. Today, it is not known whether these words were actually part of the spell or merely ceremonial. The art of silent spell-casting further complicates such issues, although it is far less effective for pre-planned magic such as this.

With the fall of the imperial empire, the secret of Greek Fire was lost. The Greeks had long maintained a self-destruction device to the 5 scrolls that detailed its secrets in the palace in case Constantinople ever fell. With the advent of the Fourth Crusade, this was carried out; because of this and other magical secrets lost with the sack of the city, the empire never regained its former glory. No other spell in history has been made of its likeness.

Although the enchantment was lost, it is possible that it can be recreated. Many journals were kept detailing specific aspects of the spell, and a Venetian mercenary was able to capture the separate pieces of Greek Fire at the Fourth Crusade. Nevertheless, there is still something missing from puzzle to this day, which is why the spell still remains a mystery.

Recently, the mage Albus Dumbledore discovered one key piece of the Roman enchantment: dragon's blood, in the study that made him famous. It is widely believed nowadays that he was able to recreate the spell and even improve it to be used in personal combat. Such an accomplishment was definately in his possible skill-range. It is known that a type of fire enchantment destroyed Grindelwald despite the dark wizard's great skill in the elements, especially water. In fact, rumours have it that Dumbledore spent much of his last year in life teaching his protoge Harry Potter the secrets of Greek Fire. ;) Dumbledore has never commented on this matter.

And if you don't know what Greek fire really is, you fail at history.

Just had an inpiration for a spell-specific shield...

Name: Gel Shield (sorry, couldn't come up with better)
    Incantation: Impetus Reverto
    Classification: Defensive Conjuration
Appearance: a thick, greenish oval of nearly opaque jelly, at a distance of at least two feet from the caster.
Technique: slashing the wand horizontally and then vertically, forming a cross.
Legal, requires average level of magic, but success depends on the power of the offensive curse.
Effects: The Gel Shield is specifically meant to counter curses of the piercing and bludgeoning variety. If cast successfully and with enough power, it stretches and quite literally envelops an incoming curse and hurls it back at the opponent. Otherwise it absorbs the curse. Even if cast with lower power than the offending spell, it definitely slows it down and reduces its lethality. It works in much the same way with physical objects thrown towards the caster.
Notes: This rather simple spell was developed during the Dark Ages by an unknown, and rather untalented, dark wizard when confronted by the defending archers of a village which he wanted to annex. The shield quite effectively defended him from their arrows, and even took down many of them in the return fire. However, it is useless against other kinds of spells, as the ill-fated wizard learned when a resident mage took him down with a well-aimed cutting curse. Oddly enough, it was discovered only later that the Gel Shield was effective against piercing and bludgeoning curses as well.

A couple of more. Much more offensive.

    Name: Melf's Acid Arrow
    Incantation: Percutio Acidus (piercing acid)
    Classification: Advanced Offensive curse
Appearance: A beam like a long, sickly yellowish-green arrow that speeds towards the target.
Technique: a sharp jab of the wand followed by the incantation.
Legal in a life-threatening situation and certain official duels. Otherwise, usage will result in a hefty fine and tracking charms on the wand for six weeks. Depending on severity of offense, caster may be sent to Azkaban.
Requires higher than normal levels of magic.
Effects: Melf's Acid Arrow is, at its roots, a considerably more lethal version of the common piercing curse. It incorporates a corporeal core into the piercing curse, and coats it with deadly acid. The result is that the wound inflicted hurts like a bitch, and infects the bloodstream as well. Depending on the acid used (which are decided by power and intents of the caster), death or incapacitation may follow. However, the severe pain caused usually gives the decisive edge to the caster anyway.
Notes: Melf was a hitwizard of great calibre in the 18th century. In that time, the Giant population was a menace to the wizarding society. Melf was contracted by the Ministry to help round up some of the giants. He used to hit the rogue giants who tried to escape in the eyes with his famed Acid Arrow. Not only was the giant blinded but the acid more often than not seeped into the skull and killed him. Melf died not long after the invention of the curse, when a desperate giant managed to get under his guard and smash him in the ribcage.

    Name: The Path of Flame
    Incantation: Ignis Capillus Inguen
    Classification: Advanced Dark Arts
Appearance: thin red beam that hits the target at the navel.
Technique: Down to up swish of the wand, followed by a jab at the target.
Illegal in all situations, penalty is 10 years in Azkaban and a fine of 2000 galleons. Requires moderate level of magic.
Effects: This truly hideous torture curse unfortunately requires very low power behind it to hurt the target. The only "downside" is that it is quick and painful, whereas the Cruciatus can be drawn out. What the Path of Flame does it set fire to the hair follicles (and consequently, a lot of the skin and the more important organs of male anatomy) from the navel to the triangular region of the groin. Suffice to say, it is incredibly painful and not far short of an Unforgivable. Another unfortunate side-effect is that sometimes, the target is unable to reproduce after exposure to such a curse.
Notes: An old dark curse, not as well known as the Cruciatus, but it is well and truly hated by all Law Enforcement agencies. Using it on purebloods is regarded as an even greater crime than using an Unforgivable, though the punishment remains the same.
